Bunny, Walcrow, what is the rate you got in Montrose?
I've got all the info at the office. I'll post it later this morning.
The MONTROSE location is a Old former Motel6
The reviews are NOT good and the rates are too high for such a low quality Hotel. This former Motel 6 was not our first choice from the beginning, but had availability, it was selected by default. Ranks at the bottom of reviews.
The better hotels in the area are much higher and cannot accommodate our group size.
Grand Junction is where we found much BETTER Hotels that can accommodate our group with more amenities.
We strongly suggest that those of you that have booked at Montrose, cancel your reservations. We found a great hotel (still working out the details for our F6B Riders) with much better reviews for about the same rate or slightly less $$$ for just a single queen. All afternoon events will be held in a privately reserved room.
SO just block off the same dates on your calendar and be patient, its still TOO early. We already have local F6B Riders planning our rides departing from Grand Junction. It is a very convenient meeting place just off I-10
I'm sure Phantom meant just off I-70 not I-10.
Cool. I read that other post where you stated you were working on a location that was "Top 3 in Montrose", but it must not have been the same place.
Years ago, when I rode a VTX, I went to the Coloradical, which was put on by the Colorado VTX riders, (Big Larry may have gone to one or two). We stayed at the La Quinta in Lakewood, CO; a western suburb of Denver. Great spot, close to as much riding as one would ever want, and not as far for the Eastern F6B folks as Grand Junction. Just throwing it out there...
Phantom, thanks for the info.
Will be waiting for your post. THANKS FOR THE WORK.
:icon_mrgreen::yes:
THANK YOU all for your input on this......
The Colorado location is closer to many more great rides then the other locations that we were considering and the average daily temp is around 85 degrees. Several of restaurants to chose from.
WEST of the Mississippi location ....
Super 8 Cortez, Colorado. Call 970-235-2553 ask for Chris
There is a Block of rooms for us under the name "F6B Riders"

The 4 nights combined ---> $262.16

EAST of the Mississippi location ....
Microtel Cherokee, North Carolina. Call 828-497-7800 ask for Emily
There is a Block of rooms for us under the name "FB Riders" their computer would not take "F6B"
Wednesday August 29th and Thursday August 30th, the room rates are $59 plus 13.9% tax = $67.20
Friday August 31st and Saturday September 1st, the room rates are $89 plus 13.9% tax = $101.37
The 4 nights combined ---> $296 plus 41.10 tax = $337.10
The group rate will be locked until July 1st, after July first you will also be paying much higher rates (if there are rooms available). It is Labor Day weekend and our Goal is to be heading Home Sunday morning
Yep, I was there for the first one on July 4th. Great spot for some fantastic riding with a fine hotel http://www.laquintadenverswlakewood.com/ that did everything to make our stay one of the best, there was a great steak house right next door too. I did my first iron-butt ride with a VTX1800 on that ride to my home from there, 1,224 miles in 23.5 hrs and 100+ deg heat all the way.
So it is not Grand Junction, Colorado? Instead it is Cortez, Colorado?
Correct, was not able to iron out the details and get the prices down enough, that's why I had not posted the hotels that I was in negotiation with. They have a large Annual Peach Festival that weekend in Grand Junction and rooms are at a Premium. A couple of members from that area had mentioned that if we headed South, the temps would be cooler and we would be closer to more possible routes that everyone will enjoy. So we reached out to Hotels in Durango and Cortez. Spoke with 4 managers and .... Super 8 in Cortez is now our BASE camp. Super 8 rooms were remodeled this year (2017) and the front office/ guest area is to be remodeled this winter.
Great part of the country. Mesa Verde Nat. Park. Million Dollar HI way, Canyons Of The Ancients, Telluride, all close. A little farther North is Gunnison National Forest and Hwy 92. On my bucket list so if I make it I will do it before or during if a ride is going that far north.
Barring being TDY to SD again my intent is to attend both rally's and maybe join Willtill's convoy. If I'm TDY I'll only be able to attend Colorado. As 53Driver puts it, "The Office of Budget and Accounting" has signed off on both plans. :icon_mrgreen:
I will be able to go to both rallies,.God willing!
Looks to be about a 5000 mile ride just to both of them.
Should be able to add a few more miles at the rallies ya, ya, ya !!!!!
I will plan to attend both of the rallies, with the unfortunate realization that work could force a change of plans...

Let the party planning begin. Southern Colorado is my favorite riding area and I am really looking forward to being there. Thanks Phantom for all your work in putting it together.
At this particular point in time, but subject to change :yikes:, I will be attending the West of the Mississippi rally in Cortez Colorado.
Never been one to ride with a large group but I have scheduled a week off so count me in for the East rally at Cherokee.
There will be groups of 4 , 8, 12, or even bigger.
Normally on Friday, it is a large group ride through one of the top routes, we try to have a large group PHOTO op with all of the f6b's lined up and the beautiful scenery in the background.
Saturday can also be a large group ride, however there might be 2-3 smaller rides heading out. Details will be ironed out closer to the dates once we know the number of attendees. Restaurants that can accommodate 20-40 people at once and fuel stops have to be strategically planned within our routes.
Reservations made for the Cherokee Rally , hope to also do the Colorado Rally and Convoy but a few things would have to happen first before I can commit to that.
Wish I could attend both but can't be away that long and the back would not take it ,so I just booked a room in Cortez .
Sure would like to attend both locations. Just can't get it OK'd in my mind, the thought of making a "bee line" on the interstate from Colorado, to Cherokee. I would be "brain dead", riding that much freeway. So, if I make both, I most likely will take a more southern route, which probably would take me thru Arkansas. Of course, that means more fun, but takes much longer. Guess I have some time to think about it. I will be in Colorado, in July, So Cherokee is a for sure.
I just made my reservations for Cortez. This is one my favorite riding areas and I am very much looking forward to the rally. Thank you Phantom for all the work you put into making this happen.
See everyone in August
Az Wingrider
f6bcarider just booked his room for Cortez +1 that makes two lol looking forward to seeing everyone there in august
Oh yeah, all you Cats n Kittens... I think we’re gonna have a great summer!
I’ve got my bookings for both rallies, and got the machine at work gearing up to get the time off. I am so looking forward to riding Colorado. That’ll be a first for me. And it sounds like we’ve got several members who are pretty well familiar with the area and the better rides. I think Cortez is gonna shape up to be a successful rally. I’m excited to have an opportunity to meet and ride with our brothers and sisters from the west side and puting faces to Forum names. WOOT!
Also looking forward to participating in Willtill’s Convoy to Cherokee. That should be fun and interesting. :icon_biggrin:
So, meanwhile, everyone ride safe and have a great year.
Phantom, thanks for your time and energy. You and AZ WingRider... let me know how I can help as the Rally dates get closer.
So psyched! :icon_biggrin:
Our vacation roster for next year should be finalized by the end of the month....barring any complications there... hope to make it to Cortez.
Booked my room.
I'm ready to go.
I may add CORTEZ later. I have to workout some logistics.
See you in Cherokee for sure.
Outcast...I'm out.
I plan to be in Cortez to do some hanging out and riding. Will arrive Wed afternoon but will need to leave on Saturday, so will be able to join in on rides on Thursday and Friday.
I like staying at Hampton Inns, but This great rate at the Super 8 is too good to pass up. Thanks Phantom!
Will be in Cortez.
Reservation made at Super 8 Cortez. :icon_biggrin:
Reservations made for Cherokee. :clap2:
Who the heck ever heard of Cortez, Colorado? I'm in, reservation made for Cortez. Thanks a million Phantom and gang!!
Enjoy!!
Tom
I hope to do this ride with Will .
I am going to be in my 70s and will need the strength of the young bloods to keep
me in the saddle.
Have been riding since 1965 and I feel this ride will be a good topper..
