Laid it all out on some painting racks I built. I have the Harbor Freight Professional gravity HVLP 2 gun set. Sprayed 2 wet coats of the purple base saving a little for corrections and touch ups. I used the larger gun with the 1.5mm tip. Let it dry overnight. Next day did a couple touch ups with small gun and let dry 2hrs. I mixed my clear and flake 500mils clear to 60mils dry flakes. Changed to the large 1.8mm tip and sprayed the flakey clear holding the gun about 18" off the surface until I was happy with how much flake I was seeing on the surfaces. Cleaned the gun and shot 5 coats of clear over the flake to smooth it out and give me some depth to wet sand. Let it all dry 2 days then wet sand 800,1600,2400 then polish using a 3" pad on a variable speed drill. This is my first time using dry flakes. Its not perfect and has a run here and a flaw there but overall it looks awesome for a backyard job. Total time the bike was down 4 weeks with life happening around the paintjob
Cobraguy it looks like you did a great job! Seems like you already have a great deal of autobody repair knowledge. I wish I had your talent.

Its a skill I've wanted to learn for a long time. After having prostate cancer eradicated I decided to check some things off the bucket list. So I took a class through the local adult education system here. That first semester turned into 2yrs working on my 62 Ford Falcon http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/ri...?sort=3&page=1 . Body work requires a lot of patience and I will only do it as a hobby and never be completely satisfied with my own work, but now I have the education.
