I also have Hyperlites and I feel they are super worthwhile. They definitely make you much more visible from the rear. I like that they are always on and then when you apply the brakes they flash five times and become very bright. I have had numerous comments on how effective they are. Just be aware when you mount them that they are very directional.
Good luck, I feel being highly visible is much more effective than being loud.
