Anybody going to Cortez from the east

Will be on RT 70 for quite a while from Maryland.
Hope to catch a few on the way.

I'll be leaving central Ohio on Monday 8/20. First night stop in Columbia, MO. 2nd night layover in Goodland, KS, then on to Cortez. I too will be riding 70W for some time; picking it up in Columbus, OH and riding it until Goodland.

For those of you considering coming I-70 all the way across to Colorado, you might consider cutting SW on I-44 or another road and then taking US-50 to US-160 across Kansas. You can make really good time on those roads, which are a lot more interesting in Kansas than I-70, and it gets you away from all of the big truck rigs.

Agree. When I was sorta thinking about making the trip I was going to take US 50 most of the way from Indiana. I wasn't going to be in any hurry.............retired ya know.

Yes, mostly 2 lane. So much more enjoyable than interstates. Your bike will go 250+ miles between gas stops. Depending upon your mileage, you can plan to spend the night in towns with modern lodging. We’ve stayed in Garden City, KS several times when heading back to Colorado. Dodge City is a bit of a rip-off IMHO.

Will look at the old paper maps to put eye ball on roads and where to hit them in Kansas.
What's the exits off 70 if you know.

Recommend that you research it to see where you might want to angle down. I'd probably do it in Missouri. I've ridden over to Arkansas several times and we always take US-50, -160, -400, etc across Kansas. Have also stayed south of I-70 in Missouri. LOTS of heavy truck traffic on I-70 in Missouri and they love to try to pass each other backing up traffic. I just prefer to find routing to avoid heavy truck traffic when I am on the bike.
