Had just spent a year hitchhiking cross country and left a Berkely commune feeling disillusioned with it all, was going back to college to study estuarine ecology, sleeping in the backseat of the car since college was about 80 miles from home...Funny thing about the good old days, I thought they kinda sucked at the time.

I was in my senior year of high school...

We had just moved to the Baltimore area. My Dad's business partner was one of the first in Maryland to own a 1975 GL1000. It was an aqua-marine color. I couldn't wait to see that bike! To me, it was like seeing a UFO at Area 51.

Flash forward 25 years. A friend of mine had a bike he was selling for a friend. I went to take a look. It was an aqua-marine 1975 GL1000 with a Windjammer fairing (remember those?) It had all of 15,000 miles on it, but hadn't been ridden in years. The carbs were all gunked up, and it needed all new rubber - tires, shock seals, the works. He wanted $1000 for it. I passed.

    I've kicked myself ever since.

If I can't fix it, I will fix it so no one can fix it.

That's a good one .....I later became a pastor...guess you also saw me in "Four Weddings and a Funeral"? ☺️ Wish I had Jackie Gleason's nest egg (that he left behind; cause he sure didn't take any with him).

21 years old and working in an Aboriginal Mission on the tip of Australia. I ordered a Yammy 175DT from my 'local' (400 miles away) dealer and had it flown into the Mission on Bush Pilots. That's where and when I learnt to ride.

Memorable moment was kicking up dust coming down a red dirt road to be greeted by a Bush Python (2nd to the Anaconda) crossing the road. It's head was somewhere in the bush to the left and it's tail was somewhere in the bush to the right. I gave way to it.

The following day a crocodile ate a dog at one of the close by settlements.

Some big incentives not to fall off.
