Curious of the third pic. All but one soldier is carrying an M1 Carbine vs the standard Garand. I don't see officer markings so I wonder if this is a landing craft full of engineers or some other support unit.

You're probably right as there are an abundant of vessels already at the beach and smoke in the background indicating something had already ensued there. BTW, sitting in the lobby of the V.A. last week sat next to an old soldier, Tony, 97 years old was in the first wave at Normandy, very lucky guy and he made a point of stating that.
