I went by and looked at the motel..very nice! There is a lot of room in the back P/L as well. Had dinner at Bennett's BBQ, very good and large sitting area. This is a tourist's wet dream! I hope someone is researching maps to get us out and to the normals sites! While there a storm had come thru with 80 MPH winds and many trees were down and blocked roads. I was thinking of going to Townsend to avoid Gatlinburg in route to the Dragon? 40 is a freak show as well. Oh well, we will have it mapped out by Labor Day!

It is not a problem getting out. We have done organized rides many times from the Vacation Lodge. We have sponsored rallies there and participated for quite a few years.

Everyone will like the breakfasts, home made biscuits and gravy among other things every morning.

You will be almost in the middle of some of the best motorcycle roads in the US. Any direction is great but go south and pick up the Parkway and ride all the way up toward DC. More South to Highlands and back up to Ashville, wonderful part of the country. Lots of waterfalls. Across the mountain to the South and you will be in Cherrokee and then West to the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. So much stuff to see without going to the coast. If you want a pretty coast come down to the Florida Alabama coast. Cleaner warmer water and whiter sand. Add lower vacation cost and it is a winner.

Mine was called a scooter once too...

I rode my F6B to work one day... Harley guy waddles in, looks at my male coworker and says "what kind of motorcycle is that?" Male coworker points to me and says "it's hers"..... Harley guy waddles over to me and asks "what kind of scooter you got there?" I said "Honda Goldwing"..... his response? "that isn't a Goldwing, it is a scooter". I replied ever so sweetly...."since when was there ever an 1800cc, six cylinder scooter manufactured?"... He never said another word, he just left our store.

Well the wife and I were so excited about attending this year's rally. Unfortunately, she has been diagnosed with stage III Cervical Cancer.
Radiation and chemo begins on the 17th for 8 weeks.

Haven't contacted the hotel yet. Might be able to transfer to someone who hasn't made reservations yet. Loosing my deposit is the least of my concerns at this point.

Maybe next year.

Looks like my wife and I may get to come to the rally. We met up there about four years ago so it'll be a honeymoon adventure. I will probably rent a cabin since we go up there so much and I've got connections for cabin rentals. I've got to get my " I slayed the dragon " helmet sticker for 2017 as I've not ridden it so far this year. Been waiting to try out the ecu, torque loop, cobra pipe mods on the dragon and I also put some titanium pucks on my floorboards. Need a GoPro operator behind me to record the spark show. Any takers to join the film crew?

Make it 51, just got off the phone with the hotel. Flying solo, have a room rented from Wednesday through Sunday. They are sold out of the cheaper rooms, so I'll be renting out the Jacuzzi in mine, at a nominal fee, to buy gas for the ride home. :yikes:

I'm coming from Central Texas, so anyone west of me, or on the way, that wants a riding partner, sound off!

Hey guys & gals,
My future bride and I are looking forward to meeting all the characters we have been reading about on this forum for the last few years. Looking forward to spending riding time with all of you. We have made our reservations already and will be there Wednesday through Sunday morning.

Booking.com shows a room available, at the Lodge, for that day, for $110; either a double room with 2 Queens, or a queen room with two Queens.

You need to give them a call. We have a negotiated price and a block of rooms set aside. You can only get that by calling the motel directly.

However, we booked all our "set aside" rooms!

To all ....
Regretfully, I will not be attending the Rally this year again.
Last year 3 weeks before the 2016 Rally my wife ended up in the hospital ICU for 2 weeks followed by months battling the return of Breast Cancer. I lost my wife this year not long ago. She was only 58 years old.
She was the reason why I was able to attend and have the pleasure of meeting so many great friends from around the country on many rallies from several motorcycle forums. My wife held the fort in place while I played (I did the same for when she went on Horse riding adventures with her girlfriends). Sadly in the last 12 months I have only put 150 miles on the GoldWing.

At this moment I have responsibilities that I cannot leave unattended for more then 2 days. I am working on reducing my work load and hopefully be able to ride again in 2018.

For those of you that have lost a spouse, you can relate on how there is a time that your mind just doesn't want to do anything, the grieving process and coming home to an empty home is at times overwhelming. There are times that I just want to say "F-CK IT" and walk away from everything... but I can't, it's just not me. Time will tell.

PLEASE have a great time, please be safe and enjoy each other at the rally..... tomorrow is never guaranteed.

Cheers to all of you :beer3:

I know as men we always have a hard time doing two things.
The first òf course is shedding tears, I will tell you this one thing. Now is not the time to hold back.
The second is asking for help, please do not be afraid to ask for help.
These are the only things I will say about us guys and fighting grief and losing our life partner.

Bear with a dumb newbie question, but will there be quasi organized rides at the rally? If so, are there maps, or even better yet, .gpx files that I can preload into my Garmin?

There are some rides posted here in my post from 5/31/17

The Google map links should give you the routes...maybe you can import it somehow???

And lord willing & the creek don't rise, we'll be tackling a few of them as small groups.
If you are so inclined, I am looking for ride leaders...

Thanks! I can transform those maps into Garmin's format easy enough. I created some maps for a trip up there a couple of months ago, running out of Sylva, NC, but never made it, due to severe rain forecast for the whole time we would have been there.

Being my first time in the area, and knowing no one (yet) that will be there, I'm hesitant to volunteer to be a ride leader, but we'll see how things go.

We have rides planned for all 3 days. If anyone would like to ride with us it is fine. We have ridden and led many rides from this motel over the years at different events that we have sponsored.
This would not be for anyone that does not like curves or can not ride a medium speed through curves (more for experienced riders). We will not be going really fast, will not get anyone hurt.

Also, this is a HUGE motorcycle destination (if you've never been to this area, you will soon know why) and there are free maps everywhere.

Honestly, you don't need a map. You're in the mountains. Just ride. Every road is amazing.

Please take my name off the list of attendees. I have to, regretfully, bow out of this one since I will be in the midst of moving. I hate to miss the rally, but after I move, I'll be able to get to great motorcycle roads before the temperature gauge starts to rise. Everyone else will have to divvy up the fun that I would have had.

Hey Steve, as I told you originally, I am up for leading a ride over the Cherohala on Friday if you need me to. I live up here 7 months of the year outside Waynesville and have been up here every summer most of my life. Here is the route I originally planned: I am thinking of a ride down Walden Creek Rd from Pigeon forge. It comes out at the entrance to the Foothills Parkway. Across the Foothills parkway to 129. West on 129 to 72 and west to 411. South on 411 to 360. South on 360 to 165 which turns into 143 which is the Cherohala parkway. Across the Cherohala to Horseshoe Cove Rd/Santeetlah/Joyce Kilmer rd. and back to 129. (Optional lunch in Robbinsville @ my friend Lynn's Place restaurant) Take 129 across the Dragon. Take Happy Valley Rd up the back way to the top of the Foothills Parkway and back to 321 and Pigeon Forge. Let me know if you need me to do this. Thanks again for all of your organizing and work. It looks to be less than 200 miles so time to do some more exploring or something else for the day. Do you plan to leave the motel and cut over to Waldon on Little Cove Rd.? Another question is the northern, exit that is one way, Old Caves Cove Rd (to Townsend from Cades Cove) open and good enough for bikes? Or do you have to backtrack to Laurel Creek.

Bob

You got it!

Those 200 miles will eat up most of the day. Many of the roads we will be on are very curvy and you do not average much speed through parts of it. The Dragon for instance is only posted @ 30 mph. Should be a great day. I was on the Cherohala two days ago and it was 65 degrees.
I will get together with Steve on the 30th when he gets up here and cement plans for staging everyone and we will let everyone know about the details.
Concerning Old Cades Cove Rd, I am not sure. My sister lives in Townsend so I am over there fairly often. I was over @ Tuckaleechee Caverns last fall and it was open then but have not been down that road since the fires last fall so I can not answer that question.

Sorry to see this, but can you let me know when you cancel? They didn't have any of the block left when I called in, so I got stuck with more room than I need. The gal said they don't keep waiting lists for cancellations, but I could call back and see if any opened up. Thanks...

I was on that same boat from that port back in 2008 and upon disembarkation a lady was running around wildly saying "They (Customs) won't release him and they seized his bike". Seems at one of the ports, it was a 12 day cruise, he wound up picking up a souvenir that kind of pisses off Customs and stashed it in his bike, those damn drug sniffing dogs.

I may be able to help you out there, as I'm about 85-90% sure I'm going to bail. Central Texas has this little thing called Harvey hanging over us, and the forecast to get out of here early this week while staying dry doesn't look good. I'll ride in rain, but prefer the kind that is a possibility, not a probability, or in this case, a certainty.

Well, even after waiting to nearly the last minute, I still have to cancel. I have several deadlines here at work I was hoping to get well positioned for prior to leaving, but that looks like it's not going to happen. I've never been the type who "lives to work", or even one who believes anybody should be like that, but this project has been my baby for the past 10 months and I need to keep the momentum rolling.

Anyway, I swear I'm cursed in my ability to make it to our Rally. Disappointed I'll miss out on great riding and making new friends, but I hope everyone has a spectacular and safe time! I canceled my Vacation Lodge reservations moments ago, but as others have said, it sounds like they're over-booked to begin with but might not hurt to try.

As a Cleveland sports fan I am used to the saying "There's always next year!" that I'll make it to the rally. Ride safe!

Okay, thx for letting me know. I just cancelled, so there is a room available, for anyone that wants to go, but has not been able to make reservations. NOTE: This room is not part of the rally block, as I made the reservation after all of them were taken up. The bad thing is that the rates may be higher, the good thing is that my cancellation fee was only 15% of the first night, not the whole first night. The lady that answered the phone said they may waive that, due to the reason for my cancellation, (Harvey), so that's nice.

Wow. I'm hoping there's more to it than just weather.
I know of a few people who have PM'd me about some personal issues that will prevent them from coming.

Remember, the most motivating thing at a specific bike rally is seeing all the bikes and what has been done to/with them.
Lighting
Stereo
Fiberglass work
Controls
And even name badges
And perhaps we'll be able to tell who has the best wax from all the beading..... :icon_mrgreen:

The most rewarding thing at a bike Rally is the camaraderie time under the tent.
This is paramount to any community of like minded persons.
Putting names with faces, voice tones with words, inflections & mannerisms - or lack thereof!
It's all goodness because we are all on two wheels, and those 2 wheels are attached to......."the best bike ever."

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Elroy,
I KNOW you did not cancel 'lightly.'
In fact - no one makes plans and cancels them 'happily.'

This was not aimed at you or anyone in particular - we all MUST ride our own ride and I respect that.
Takes more 'steel' to publicly cancel than not.

We've got a few inclement weather activities planned and we're gonna have good time - rain or shine.
Speaking of 'shine, maybe JimmyTee can bring some of that Kentucky Bourbon with him.....I'm a scotch guy, but that's starting to sound tasty.

Cheers,
Steve

We have talked to multiple people today and yes we are going to have a great rally.
Because of the possibility of spending a little more time socializing for a morning or so and a few recent requests we are bringing the trailer down.

We put in one or two of quite a few things that you can look at and purchase or even install. We have the roller box in with tools also.
Teresa is not coming so it will be a little different, we are going to be a slight more efficient and a lot less stuff. Just bike items. She would like to see everyone but has other plans and we are coming back down in just a few weeks for another rally.
If there is anything you want from our web site you will have to let us know by tomorrow evening.

Looking forward to seeing and riding with everyone again.
Rick

Atlanta traffic is hell on earth. "fireybat" I've never seen anything quite like it.

She thinks she's being edgy-baking pies for a bike rally. I'll guarantee you she's already on the phone with her friends, telling them she's sending pecan pie to a HA gathering.

All Rally Attendees,
I want all of you to know that Rick from Value Accessories has been a significant F6B Forum Rally coordinating team member for a few years and has been instrumental in the 2017 Rally planning:
- He helped Phantom find this venue when everything else Phantom tried was falling through
- He and his son volunteered to be ride Captains for us and have got several routes in this area as they have done this "Pigeon Forge Rally Thing" a few times before - we'll call it occupational hazard! :icon_mrgreen:
- When the weather started looking unpredictable, he volunteered to bring his ginormous trailer and tool box so we could fruitfully occupy any weather delays
- As many of you are experiencing, he is bringing parts and accessories for you to the Rally, plus some really cool door prizes
http://hondaf6b.com/showthread.php?11249-Attendee-Discounts-Pigeon-Forge
- And, just like the Rally two years ago, he is going assist with installation on site as time permits, and, given his work ethic, probably often into the wee hours - just like 2 years ago

I know we all appreciate someone who loves the F6B as much as we do, and has installed dang near every accessory available on his bike already - the know-how is there.
Rick often posts in threads where expertise is needed, and not necessarily if the part in question came from him.
He is a true friend & supporter of the Forum and I know Phantom is happy to have him as one of our most valued sponsors.

Please stop by his trailer this week, meet Rick and his son, and put the face with the name.
And say thanks for all the help and support for the Forum and the Rally.
Cheers,
Steve

We are departing Central Florida this morning with the bike (Clifford) on the trailer heading north and we plan to arrive on Wednesday afternoon. The best part about the weather is that it changes, and most often for the best. I plan events for a living, many outdoor, and I want to say Thank You to everyone that has had a hand in putting this together. We look forward to meeting the group in PF! -Steve & Stephanie

Whatever it takes. :shhh:

You get a pass on that... with your recent Bionic man knee surgery. :icon_wink:

I'm sitting here in my hotel room watching the weather progress (from Hurricane Harvey's residual fallout/spinoff), gonna possibly be a little wet getting out of here so am getting ready to break out the wet weather contingency plan B gear.

We all know that motorcycling will sporadically involve unplanned for inclement weather. Nature of the beast. :shhh:

I wonder how Ixol Phaane is doing... he's riding through all of that crap coming from Phoenix. Best wishes for him as he hopefully skirts some of it.

Hey Dave... if your reading this thread... you are going to have to take a mandatory motorcycle detour as you come down I-81, the town is Buchanan I think. Be careful of the speed limit through that town.. it's like 25mph and there's a local cop that will tail you. He did it to me.

Town must not get a lot of action. :icon_rolleyes:

My wife does not ride, her ex-husband was killed in a motorcycle accident on her birthday. She sold her bike and will not ride as a passenger either. She said that she would like to go so we do it this way.

My wife rides with me, but she is driving down while I am riding. She is driving the luggage :icon_wink: Really , we left on Saturday to come visit her family in VA. Tomorrow morning we'll be heading to Pigeon Forge. Her in the SUV and me on the bike. We both use machines at night for sleeping, and it would have been a challenge packing for two for 8-9 days. Especially when one of my saddlebags is already taken up by audio gear.:icon_wink: Plus we don't have to be picky how we pack, just throw it in. Most of my extended riding trips are done solo, so packing for a couple weeks isn't a big deal.

I think Teresa put 4 pairs of them in the tote that went in the trailer.
They are using the same for high and low beams now. Little more on the low's and down a little on Lumens on the high. My original high beams are so bright during the daytime that I turn them off if riding in groups because the people in front of me can only see light in their mirrors not me.

No I ended up doing some exploring on my own. Some of my faves were Waldens Creek/E. Millers Cove, Old Chilhowie/Alpine, Butterfly Gap Rd and really liked the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. And of course the very popular Little River Gorge Rd which I did twice because the tourist were not out so much due to the poor forecast I'm guessing. Also visited Cades Cove while most of the cages stayed home.
