Today is the day the youth of the greatest generation made the ultimate sacrifice and got the job done. On a personal note my father enlisted on June 7, 1944. You don't hear a peep about this going around the channels so it's up to us to keep this memory alive.

My father enlisted Aug 5 1945 in the Army Air Corps(AC Paratrooper) it remained one of the combat arms of the Army until 1947, when it was legally abolished by legislation establishing the Department of the Air Force which was establisd on 20 June 1941.

How would you like to take the Excal II onto Normandy and sweep for a week ?

My dad and uncle were both there. Dad was wounded on June 8th and uncle Robert died at St. lo on July 15th at 18 yoa. I went to a lot of events with some of those gents at the National D-Memorial in Beford, Va. I encourage all to visit that special place. Not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway and just plain beautiful spot in the Blueridge. Lost dad 8 years ago and not many more of those heroes left. We owe much to that generation. F6Broy

My Uncle was a flight engineer on B-17s and flue missions on D-day.
He flew 21 missions before getting some metal; from flack
in him, was a million dollar wound .

How would you like to take the Excal II onto Normandy and sweep for a week ?As much as I'd love to do it, I think I would tear up with humility and reverence when thinking how many gave their all for me to even be there.

I gave my thanks also. My dad was U.S. Navy....SB2C then the SBD Helldiver pilot off the USS Wasp in the Pacific....CAG 14 (Carrier Air Group). He was awarded the Navy Cross for some hairy action during what was called "Mission Beyond Darkness". He got out alive......thousands didn't. RIP dad..............

It was quite the trip. Visited Canadian & American cemeteries while there, & many other sites in the area. If anyone has any interest, I'd recommend the next big anniversary, the 75th in 2019.
