So will dates and hotels follow? Thanks Tony, Steve and Rick for all you do!

Waiting on 2 hotel quotes for the Cherokee area to come in. I already have 3 others.

Just like Colorado, the Labor Day weekend rates are substantially higher in the Cherokee area. Harrahs Casino has something HUGE going on and has purchased 400 rooms at non Harrahs hotels in the area. Harrahs Casino Friday, Saturday and Sunday rates are $499 per night on that Labor Day weekend.

The rates are much less the week prior, however this would force both events to occur on the same dates.

Please be patient, just trying to make it affordable for as many as possible and logistically appealing for those that want to attend both events.
I have discovered that in the last 2 years Hotel rates have gone up. Microtel Franklin NC wants $159 each night for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Trying to get $75-$80 for Wednesday and Thursday, $95-$105 for Friday and Saturday

Final details to follow in the next 24-48 hours.

Tentative for the Cherokee NC location. The hotel is situated in a great location with restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy and gas stations around it.

Wednesday August 29th and Thursday August 30th, the room rates are $59 plus 13.9% tax = $67.20
Friday August 31st and Saturday September 1st, the room rates are $89 plus 13.9% tax = $101.37

The 4 nights combined ---> $296 plus 41.10 tax = $337.10

As stated earlier, final details for both the Colorado and North Carolina events will be posted this weekend

Talking to the wife now but I am looking at going to both. Thought about going to the Wing Ding in Tennessee but all I would do is spend money on things that I don't need. With going to both F6B locations, I would just ride and drink beer. My lifelong dream coming true. Also spoke with Tony today and I agree with all that he has planned! Sounds like it would be a great 2 weeks. Just glad that I'm retired and would have the time free.

..afterwards of course. :shhh:

I remember at the last Rally when Steve enlisted me for a beer run, in the late afternoon when finished riding (gas station next door was the resupply point). He exclaimed “your drunk” whilst I smiled and replied “what?” :icon_mrgreen:

We will be posting separate threads in the next couple of days, however for those that want to go ahead and book their Cherokee North Carolina Hotel... here are the details

The hotel is situated in a great location with restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy and gas stations around it.

Microtel Cherokee , call 828-497-7800 ask for Emily
You must mention that you are with the "F6B Riders Group" to receive this group rate.

Wednesday August 29th and Thursday August 30th, the room rates are $59 plus 13.9% tax = $67.20
Friday August 31st and Saturday September 1st, the room rates are $89 plus 13.9% tax = $101.37

The 4 nights combined ---> $296 plus 41.10 tax = $337.10

The group rate will be locked until July 1st, after July first you will be paying much higher rates (if there are rooms available). It is Labor Day weekend and our Goal is to be heading Home Sunday morning

Colorado details to follow in the next couple of days, we are ironing out a few details .... we may have found a better hotel with a larger parking area for our tent and place for those trailering ... ample parking for pick-up trucks with trailers. This possible new location has great reviews, better price and convenient as well. Ranks in the top 3 hotels in Montrose.

Got a while to plan the Montrose trip but let's all hook up next Aug for the beautiful ride up 287 to Amarillo. Hoping JM from Austin and a few others will gather up here in Dallas for the Montrose gathering. The Angel Fire, Red River, Questa loop would be a nice detour getting up there.

In negotiations with a large hotel that has plenty of indoor AIR CONDITIONED gathering space (a banquet room where we can all gather in after our rides).

I have been told that AUGUST is still considered "PEAK season". Rates for a decent hotel are at a premium ($110 - $130).
I have also been told that a Tent in the evening is NOT a good idea ... TOO HOT, The hotel lady has told me that the temperature in the late afternoon can still be between 90 to 100 degrees. (75-85 in the mountains while riding)

I am trying to negotiate rooms for around $80-$90 with a free banquet room.
Location is also convenient to reach ....

GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO :icon_wink::yes:

Great rides to the North, East and South
Several restaurants and conveniences nearby.

Further details to follow.

Will, Yes and Yes.

You have nearly 4 days to make your way into Cherokee
Leaving Grand Junction Sunday 8-26-17 around 9-10am arriving in Cherokee on Wednesday 8-29-17 around 3-5pm

The ride between Grand Junction and Cherokee is approximately 1700 miles, take some detours.

I figure that I will Drive/Ride on Sunday until 8-9pm 650-700 miles, spending the night somewhere around SALINA, KS.
Monday morning hitting the road around 8am riding another 700-750 miles and stopping just south of Nashville around 8-9pm (Murfreesboro area). Tuesday morning hitting the road around 9am and taking my good ole time getting into Cherokee through the mountains, arriving in Cherokee Tuesday afternoon and winding down, catch up on some business and maybe visit a masseuse at the Harrahs casino:shhh:. Wednesday morning hitting the Grocery store and the High Octane mountain water stores. Need to re-stock the supplies for the weekend. TOO EARLY to even think about this, my itinerary may change.

Well... not like exactly like THAT above... but the same with bikes... I bet a lot of us will marry up from Grand Junction, Co enroute to Cherokee. NC afterwards... this is like almost a whole year to plan for this.

What will most likely happen is impromptu planning as the rally commences.

So excited. :clap2:

I also have a room booked in Montrose as I got one when it was posted several weeks ago. I'm keeping mine. If the Rally is held in Grand Junction, it's only 60 short miles from Montrose, and I can most likely get there in less than one hour. No big deal.

The MONTROSE location is a Old former Motel6

The reviews are NOT good and the rates are too high for such a low quality Hotel. This former Motel 6 was not our first choice from the beginning, but had availability, it was selected by default. Ranks at the bottom of reviews.
The better hotels in the area are much higher and cannot accommodate our group size.

Grand Junction is where we found much BETTER Hotels that can accommodate our group with more amenities.
We strongly suggest that those of you that have booked at Montrose, cancel your reservations. We found a great hotel (still working out the details for our F6B Riders) with much better reviews for about the same rate or slightly less $$$ for just a single queen. All afternoon events will be held in a privately reserved room.

SO just block off the same dates on your calendar and be patient, its still TOO early. We already have local F6B Riders planning our rides departing from Grand Junction. It is a very convenient meeting place just off I-10

Cool. I read that other post where you stated you were working on a location that was "Top 3 in Montrose", but it must not have been the same place.

Years ago, when I rode a VTX, I went to the Coloradical, which was put on by the Colorado VTX riders, (Big Larry may have gone to one or two). We stayed at the La Quinta in Lakewood, CO; a western suburb of Denver. Great spot, close to as much riding as one would ever want, and not as far for the Eastern F6B folks as Grand Junction. Just throwing it out there...

Correct, was not able to iron out the details and get the prices down enough, that's why I had not posted the hotels that I was in negotiation with. They have a large Annual Peach Festival that weekend in Grand Junction and rooms are at a Premium. A couple of members from that area had mentioned that if we headed South, the temps would be cooler and we would be closer to more possible routes that everyone will enjoy. So we reached out to Hotels in Durango and Cortez. Spoke with 4 managers and .... Super 8 in Cortez is now our BASE camp. Super 8 rooms were remodeled this year (2017) and the front office/ guest area is to be remodeled this winter.

Great part of the country. Mesa Verde Nat. Park. Million Dollar HI way, Canyons Of The Ancients, Telluride, all close. A little farther North is Gunnison National Forest and Hwy 92. On my bucket list so if I make it I will do it before or during if a ride is going that far north.

If the '16 Rally was any indication, a number of different members lead rides so the group is generally not that big or ride your own ride.

There will be groups of 4 , 8, 12, or even bigger.
Normally on Friday, it is a large group ride through one of the top routes, we try to have a large group PHOTO op with all of the f6b's lined up and the beautiful scenery in the background.

Saturday can also be a large group ride, however there might be 2-3 smaller rides heading out. Details will be ironed out closer to the dates once we know the number of attendees. Restaurants that can accommodate 20-40 people at once and fuel stops have to be strategically planned within our routes.

Sure would like to attend both locations. Just can't get it OK'd in my mind, the thought of making a "bee line" on the interstate from Colorado, to Cherokee. I would be "brain dead", riding that much freeway. So, if I make both, I most likely will take a more southern route, which probably would take me thru Arkansas. Of course, that means more fun, but takes much longer. Guess I have some time to think about it. I will be in Colorado, in July, So Cherokee is a for sure.

Oh yeah, all you Cats n Kittens... I think we’re gonna have a great summer!

I’ve got my bookings for both rallies, and got the machine at work gearing up to get the time off. I am so looking forward to riding Colorado. That’ll be a first for me. And it sounds like we’ve got several members who are pretty well familiar with the area and the better rides. I think Cortez is gonna shape up to be a successful rally. I’m excited to have an opportunity to meet and ride with our brothers and sisters from the west side and puting faces to Forum names. WOOT!

Also looking forward to participating in Willtill’s Convoy to Cherokee. That should be fun and interesting. :icon_biggrin:

So, meanwhile, everyone ride safe and have a great year.

Phantom, thanks for your time and energy. You and AZ WingRider... let me know how I can help as the Rally dates get closer.

So psyched! :icon_biggrin:

You will do this ride with me. You're a beast in the seat. You set the example for the young bloods to follow.

for some of the the rest who've not done a long ride... it's prudent to:

1. Pop a couple of Advil's or Ibuprofen's each day at the start of each leg.
2. Stay hydrated.

A 600-700 mile ride in one day can be done by anyone if they push it. Waking up the next morning and knowing that you are not even half way will test (some) of your mettle; if you have not done this type of riding. Throw in a little bad weather and...

Light at the end of the tunnel... that's where we are riding to. Colorado is beautiful. I miss the West (grew up in Scottsdale/Phoenix) back in the day... will be good to see the other half of the country again :icon_cool:

The forums have been pretty quiet during Thanksgiving week. Now it’s time to start thinking about your trips to Cherokee and/or Cortez and the “Christmas Gifts” that you “need” for these and other trips.

I’m going to Bluetooth, which will also let me get my long overdue new helmet. I think a new windshield is on my list also.

I will be hitting both of our get togethers, on of the advantages to being retired.
Have been to Colorado several times, but find that the mountains always show
you something new even if you have been there before. All you have to change
is the weather.
Now here is something the novice flat lander must learn. Don,t pack for just the season
that you started the ride in.
The temperature can change and change FAST!.
Rain gear, cold weather gear a must even in summer.
I think the brothers here will chime in and add to this.

Yes! 😉

That would be the first day of the rally... the typical first day of arrival and first gathering and mixing night at the motel. No group rides taking place, yet. Those rides will happen on Thu, Fri and Sat. You won’t miss anything if you arrive on 8/22.

See ya there!

Please make your reservation AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, if your plans change between now and the Rally... you can always cancel your reservations a few weeks or days before the event.

Use THIS post to indicate which event you plan on attending, this will allow us to plan for the number of attendees.

Once I have updated the list I will move the posts over to the original thread ---> http://hondaf6b.com/showthread.php?11370-2018-Rally-Location-gt-POLL

THANK YOU everyone for your help on this, it is a team effort and I do appreciate all of you that have volunteered to help .notworthy.
