It was an $89.00 Costco special a little over 3 years ago.. now it (with more frequency) is starting to suddenly shut off and reboot; showing bars on the screen and all of that nonsense. And then it sometimes comes back. The little hole in the back to reset it doesn't seem to have much effect either now.

I think that the jarring from the F6B's front end over rough road has started to do the little guy in. It always was a familiar friend right in front of me... guiding me to places I've never been.

Be hating to deep six it.... :tissue:

....but will be on the prowl for another cheap GPS very soon. I'm not dropping hundreds on a motorcycle GPS... the economical automobile GPS seem to work just as well.

The environment for a GPS on a motorcycle is much more harsh than a car. I am wondering though... if a GPS made for a motorcycle is actually "hardened" against more transmitted road shock while in use?

I got the refurbished version of this https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Nuvi-67LM-6-Inch-Navigator/dp/B00RVGZJ8O/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=gps&ie=UTF8&qid=1510705697&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=garmin+gps+refurbished+67 for $89. My motorcycle specific gps took a crap. I actually like my new one better. Bigger screen and simple to use

How does that magnetic mount hold up and where have you mounted it ?

I saw those new round magnetic (???) mounts last week and wondered how they took sharp bumps.

I like the idea of the larger screen for aging eyes.

I dont use magnetic mounts. I use ram mounts. I bought a mounting kit from travelor on this forum. It mounts dead center above my dash. I like it. Sorry I cant post a pic.

The photo loss is a shame. The collective contributions from this forum had made for quite a nice F6B mod/maintenance tutorial.

No. I is a metal plate mouted to the underside of the top of the dash. It mounts using strong 3m double sided sticky tape or gorille tape(this stuff is strong and my preferred tape). Then the ram suction cup mount is on that plate. Then its tethered to the mount. I have seen what you posted on another wing and it looked clean and sturdy. But he screwed that mount into the top of his dash.

Are you able to load .GPX routes into the autombile GPS?

The handlebar ram mounts work great too but I wanted my gps in the center and up near the bottom of the windshield if you dont mind it on your bars then it is a good option

I have never learned or tried to load routes. I would assume you can but not positive. I would like to learn how to bulld and load a custom route. Maybe during the winter I can dink around with that.

I have a Garmin Zumo 660 and drove thru 2 days of constant rain without any problems. Still runs great.

...I just figured out yesterday what was wrong with my Magellan (I think) :shhh:

Rust

The power connector to the side of it seemed to have some discoloration; I had examined it closer yesterday and started cleaning it with WD40. Seems that some surface rust was present.

Plugged it back in and it didn't misbehave at all for the entire day of riding. So I think that the unit was not getting a good supply of juice and that's why it was going bonkers.

What makes matters worse is that I ordered and received a replacement Garmin Drive 51 LM 5 GPS yesterday :icon_doh: Now I gots two

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/garmin-drive-51-lm-5-gps-with-lifetime-map-updates-black/5715643.p?skuId=5715643&ref=212&loc=1&ksid=0bf52b7f-5b0e-4edf-a2c4-6038a48ff55b&ksprof_id=18&ksaffcode=pg257766&ksdevice=c&lsft=ref:212,loc:2

I'm going to clean both of the male and female power connection areas with some electrical contact cleaner today, and then follow up with a nice glob of dielectric grease to protect it. Should have known to protect that connector from the elements; after all this GPS is not "weatherproof" as was aptly demonstrated to me.

Apparently not. To my horror... the CRC Electrical contact cleaner JUST MELTED a portion of my Magellan's plastic case

Not for use on plastics. :icon_doh:

Another word to the wise from stoopid here... :icon_rolleyes: do not use electrical contact cleaner on a plastic GPS case :shhh:

Of course they are. That's the whole premise of a moto gps.

You get what you pay for.....mostly.
