Many of the online parts retailers now have parts fishe available for the new GL1800s (gen 6). Currently, I've seen none with any part drawings. The 6th gen has a new parts designation. Gen 5 GL1800's (2001-17s) are designated "MCA." The 6th gen is designated "MKC."

To clarify, today Honda uses "alpha" designation in the middle of most part numbers (in the past, Honda used numerical, and alpa/numerica). The alpha (or numeric) designates what model the part was originally deigned for.

For example, a windscreen part number for a gen 5 GL1832 is 64100-MCA-000.
A windscreen for a gen 6 GL1833 is 67110-MKC-A00.

gen 1 GL1000 (1975-79) ... "371"
gen 2 GL1100 (1980-83) ... "463"
gen 3 GL1200 (1984-87) ... "MG9"
gen 4 GL1500 (1988-00) ... "MAM"
gen 5 GL1800 (2001-17) ... "MCA"
gen 6 GL1800 (2018-current) ... "MKC"

Should the new GoldWing be called a 2nd gen GL1800, or a GL1833, or a 6th gen GoldWing, or a MKC ???

What we have is the second gen of the g1800 2012 thru 2017 I would thing there for it would be the 1st gen of
the gl. 1832. I would bet that they will come up with a way for them and us to tell.

I agree there is a generation change between the 1832 and an 1833; however, what makes a 2012-17 a second generation of a GL1800 ???

When the gl 1800 started in 2001 it stayed the same till 2012 till 2017, hence the second generation.

But the later change only had minor style and feature changes. A generation change is much more then that. For example take a 1955 Chev Belair and a 1957 Belair. The 55 had no rear fins, but the 57 did. The 57 did not represent a generation change. For the Belair, the next generation change occurred in 1959 with a completely new frame, trim, accessories, and body style.

Minor changes takes a handful of engineers. A generation changes requires teams of many.

Mechanical drawings are now available to accompany the parts fishe.

Call it what you want, but Honda calls the 2012 to 17 models 2nd generation. :icon_wink:

If Honda calls it that, then that is what it is; however, I've never seen Honda refer to it as that. Can you show us where they do ???

Go to kuryaken site or wings and look at the parts for gl 1800s and they will say
2nd gen if talking about 2012 thru 2017.
Honest guys I am not crazy.

It looks like some aftermarket suppliers/manufactures may have done that for their own personal agenda, such as to profit from it; however, doing so does not make it true. In fact it now adds confusion, especially since we now have a real 6th generation Goldwing.

Here is how wikipedia says it "Some retailers of aftermarket add-ons/replacements parts, group all GL1800 models into two categories. They describe all GL1800s made from 2001-2010 as "First Generation" or "1st Gen,"[97] while GL1800's made in 2012 or 2013 are described as "Second Generation" or "2nd Gen."[98] This is extremely misleading because, in terms of complete Gold Wing evolution, the GL1800 itself is actually the 5th generation."

When talking engine generation, yes this is the 6th gen. 75-79= 1000cc, all naked bikes. 80-83 =1100cc. 1980 was the first year Honda offered the GL with Honda line fairing/ saddle bags/ trunk. First gen body style. You could still get a naked GL. 84-87=1200cc. 2nd gen body style and 84 model year being the last year to offer a naked GL. 88-2000=1500cc. 3rd gen body style. Now it gets a bit interesting. 2001-2017 1832cc gen 4 body style, sort of. Same 1832cc engine with a bit of a body change in 2012-2017. So you have 2 body styles in the 1832cc series, hence gen 1& gen 2. Now onto the 1833cc= body style 5. For arguments sake we should most likely leave out the Rune and the Valks, the slight panel changes and comfort levels.
