Well.... I pulled the trigger on a full set of heated riding gear today . I went with warm and safe brand, Mark at cycle specialist in Portland Oregon hooked me up. I can’t wait to test them out once the weather lets up!
Anyone have any tips to pass on?

If you bought heated jacket liner, they work the best if you wear a liner over them, such as if you were wearing a mesh riding jacket with liner.

Be careful when stashing it. The zipper tab broke off of my heated jacket liner because it got pinched in the bottom of the saddlebag.

I got a nice vest off AMAZON for under 100 bucks, 5 heat elements, 3 settings, works good so far. BUT! I'm in central FL. and only need it 5-6 times a year. Up north, go for the real good stuff!

I have had the Tourmaster Synergy 2 (I think) since 2010 and I would never leave without it. Even in sunny Florida when it is 80-90 during day it gets a little cool riding home at night from the beach. Why be cold ever!!!

There are a variety of heated liners on the market and they all have their benefits and shortcomings. I have a First Gear heated liner and enjoy it. One its benefits is that it has a controller that is separate from the liner. I have the controller mounted on the left fairing below the radio controls with the wiring tucked inside the bike's plastics and the plug emerging from under the nose of the seat. When using the liner when I get on the bike I plug in the liner and the controller is within easy reach for heat adjustment. When I get off if I forget to unplug it (which happens occasionally) it unplugs itself. The heated liner is always on the bike in the left saddle bag and it also doubles as windbreaker when I am off the bike and walking around. I just tuck the cord into the pocket and zip the pocket closed.

I have had the heated liner for years and it I can't imagine being without it. It is much more effective than trying to layer up and I have long ago thrown away the liner that came with my riding jacket.

In the winter the heated liner under my Klim Overland jacket (which is a shell only) is all I need down into the 20s for 1 hour or less.
You are correct much better than layering. I never leave without it!!!
