Then go with GIVI or SHAD for easy removal. Get the rack from Dale or the rack with GIVI hardware for the F6B from Twisted Throttle. SHAD sells a rack for their trunk that will attach with 4 bolts to a flat rack and it detaches like the GIVI. Don't know of any others for quick and easy removal.

Several of you own the Dale rack, including myself. I called Dale today and we had a great discussion. I told him I wanted another rack but with no holes or slits, just the 4 mounting holes for the spacers. He jumped in and told me to design whatever I wanted as to length, width, thickness, etc., and he would make it. HE suggested to have it 1/4" thick, not his current 3/16" thick rack. He's heard of several cases of thin racks breaking with too much weight on the rear of thin racks. I'm going to come up with 2 different designs and order 2 custom racks from Dale next week. One might be for the GIVI, the SHAD, or the Harley Tour Pak that I now have. My post is to let you know that we have someone who owns several Honda dealerships in Washington and is more than happy to make whatever you want for a rack that has trunk attachment issues. He is located at his South Sound Honda location in Lakewood, WA. He is aware of our rack/trunk issues and is more than willing to help solve them. I'm off to the drawing board.

Here's where Dale works, at least he was there yesterday at this location. I believe he owns 3 Honda dealerships. Call 253-582-2288. His email is hondabikepro@gmail.com. He told me to design what I wanted, the thickness of the rack, if I wanted a flat surface or holes or slits like his stock rack, etc. If you want it wider or longer front to back, he can make it, then it gets powder coated. Total time was around 1 to 2 weeks. You won't talk to a nicer and more helpful person. He also mentioned he has 3 DCT's in stock to demo for anyone in that area south of Seattle. I have his cell phone at work if you need it.

Looks like we have the same exact trunk. Mine came with a nice black rack attached on top with a lip flared up in the back. It does hold a ton. Mine is on a Dale rack and I had to support it with 4 nylon spaces due to the design of the bottom of the trunk. There are so many holes in his stock rack that I'm ordering a new rack with no holes or slits around the perimeter as mine is somewhat cockeyed when I bolted it down but it is functional and sturdy as hell.

Jhox....

Is that the Maxim monster and has the lock been holding for you? I've seen some YouTube vids that the Maxim locking mechanism has not held sometimes and that the V47 trunk has a different latch for locking and might be more secure. Also, Twisted never seems to have their rack in stock, at least that's the case yesterday.

I went to the doc and he diagnosed that I have TRUNKINOSIS. It's similar to SEATATOSIS, but a bigger pain in the arse trying to figure out which trunk to get right for trips AND the GF's comfort. Well, I've changed to this arrangement for now, and at least the damn thing is removable in maybe 2 seconds. I went with the Twisted Throttle rack and GIVI hardware. The only issue is that when you buy the Twisted hardware kit for the GIVI, they send you bolts assuming that you don't have the deluxe with the backrest. They are not M8 in size. The M8's are needed if you are going to attach this item if you have the Deluxe version. The Dale rack was fine as he sends M8 bolts with his rack and I had to do some fiddling and add spacers when I attached the Harley King Tour Pak to the Dale rack, but it was not fun removing it....not quick detach at all and the bolts Dale sends are hex head and stick up above the surface of his rack. With this Twisted Throttle rack and hardware, I wanted flat socket head bolts that would be flush with the rack and it took forever to find the correct lengths for the front and back threads. I ended up with 55mm for the front spacers and 75mm bolts for the rear spacers, both M8. I used Dales spacers and not the Twisted Throttle spacers as they are made for the bolts supplied that are M5 or M6. I used a countersink bit on the drill to enlarge the stock rack holes to allow the flat head bolts to fit flush with the top of the rack.....almost flush, but good enough. This GIVI is the Trekker 52 liter case and it does hold 2 full sized full face helmets. I like this one but the V47 would have worked out as would the monster Maxia trunk. Bought the back rest for the GF and all is good.............FINALLY.

Wow 2wheels thanks!, that's my bike..I just put it on and finished it up a few days ago. Its a TCMT Chopped pak for 2014 up Harleys, There sold out of California on Ebay and Amazon..with Backrest and linner they go for around 225.
Mounted to a Dales rack using Nylon spacers and aluminum reinforce plates sandwiching the bottom of the pack. Using the spacers just like come with most of the aftermarket and Hondas rack allow you to get the angle you want.

As said before, I wanted to be a little different then the other bikes and went with a more adventure style box. It's a GIVI box and I used the Givi E251 universal monokey mounting kit on top of Dales luggage rack. I did have to trim a little of the underside of the mounting kit so that the mounting bolts of the luggage would sit flush with the mounting kit. Used a dremmel tool with a cutoff attached. Hope the photos work.

I mounted my tour pack on two pieces of simple aluminum angle. In hindsight, you don't need any type of rack; Simply use spacers and washers and drill through the bottom of the case. I think most cases would be strong enough to not need support underneath..... Your mounting bolts would go through the case, through the spacer tubes and directly into the rack mount holes.

Walcrow
06-04-2018, 05:53 PM
DarkKnt is correct, IMO. When I mounted my Harley King Tour Pak on the Dale rack, I drilled 4 holes in the bottom of the trunk, added some nylon spacers under the trunk, and bolted it to Dale's rack. That Harley trunk bottom is damn solid and thick enough to handle any kind of mounting issue, IMO.

Cool....Here you go. I've talked to Dale several times. He can even customize his rack for you if you need it larger or if you don't want all the holes and slots. Just tell him what you need. He includes the 4 bolts with the rack BUT understand that his bolts are M8 bolts that fit the DELUXE model, not the standard model. If you have the standard F6B, you'll need to get the brackets that fit under the rear shelter before adding a rack or the back rest.

Mate their 3 bolts holding it in
The holes are drilled in the factory rack as you can see in the picture?
Just put a strip of aluminum or something on the inside of the top box when yah screw in in.
Just gives it more support/strength me thinks
Oh and put the bolts in from underneath so the nuts are screwed on from the inside.

I added an aftermarket flat black chopped tourpak to my F6B with additional led lights. The chopped model is a couple inches taller. They are available on eBay for 200 bucks or so. The problem I ran into was the the aftermarket luggage rack I tried to adapt flexed severely and cracked over time. As a result I made my own 1/2”aluminum mounting plate and aluminum post supports. I will post a couple photos later. It’s solid as a rock now and uses the same four mounting holes as the standard luggage racks. I would recommend buying the 2016 and higher tourpak model because the mounting is much simpler and the closure hardware is much nicer.

Some great looking trunks you folks have. GIVI makes near bullet proof cases in all sizes & shapes as do many others. I use a side GIVI pannier, I like it because it's a bit lower and a little more streamlined. Since I ride solo (G/F has her own bike) it works fine for me. I use the Twisted Throttle rack, mfg. by SW Motec from Germany, w/ the GIVI mount kit, on or off in under 5 seconds, (rack's drilled for it). I did get shorter mount spacers from ACE HW to lower the SW Motec rack a bit. There's loads of neat cases / trunks around. I seem some nice trunks made from name brand instrument cases, that really look great.

The tourpak is solid and you don't even know it's back there. I like the size of the Razor bag. I can easily throw my leather jacket, tee shirt, gloves, sun screen, spare shades, bug cleaner and a couple rags. I forgot to mention that I did buy an aftermarket lock assembly with two key positions. I wanted to be able to pull the key out in the locked and unlocked positions. The lock that came with the tourpak had one position "locked" that the key could be removed. It turned into a major pain. So I replaced with a high quality aftermarket lock.

I purchased the GIVI hardware and the Twisted Throttle rack for the f6b. The instructions say to remove the OEM brackets, taking off the plastic on the tail end if replacing the existing rack. The holes line up with the OEM brackets and the Twisted Throttle rack. Is it necessary to replace the brackets? I am not sure how to get the plastic tail piece off. Since the holes line up and there are spacers, I'm not sure why the brackets need replacing. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have discovered that the bolts on the Twisted Throttle rack will not fit with the OEM brackets, as the diameter is smaller. Now I have to figure out how to take off the plastic in the back. Off to youtube. So I can't find out how to remove the plastic below the luggage rack. Anyone have instructions on how to do this?

Going to throw mine in here as well. This is a Kawasaki Nomad truck kit that was available from Kawasaki for awhile but is now discontinued. I paid dearly for this kit back when I had a Kawasaki Vaquero and wanted a trunk. After trading the Vaquero for the F6B I kept the trunk kit and made use of it. I had full intensions of painting the truck to match the blue but decided that if I ever sell the "B" I could sell the trunk kit and the black would go with any color bike, it even looks great on my blue. Can have this on or off the bike in less than 10 min.

I really like the looks of the tour pack on Jim W bike posted in May 2018. I looked them up and only thing that bothers me is on the one I was looking at on ebay the feedback reviews show hinge problems Is there a better grade in one brand vs another?

Could you post a pic of side view of bike and trunk? Thanks.

You can order hinge and lock set from Harley that are better grade and should be a bolt on.
First you have to drill out the rivits that the old ones have. The new hinges come with
nuts and bolts. Easy job.
That is if you are going to use a Harley knock off.

Here is my install of a TCMT Chopped Tour Pack I bought on Amazon.

61596160616161626163

1/4" Aluminum plate about 11" x 12". 1/2" hard rubber mat on top of the plate to raise trunk over the four bolts that hold the aluminum plate to the bike.

The spacers were purchased at Menards. I bought a wide variety of sizes and played around with the height.

Sorry for the pictures on their sides. The forum must have done that while uploading.

Inside the trunk is another aluminum plate 1/8" thick. I used button head bolt to hold the trunk to the plates. The aluminum plates and rubber mat were from Amazon also. The four bolts hold the 1/4" plate to the bike were 8mm and I ordered them from a bolt supplier online. I am not a fan of the black color and may have it painted later if it get scratched. Otherwise it is staying black. My whole reason for installing this was to make my wife more comfortable. I felt she sat too far back on the seat and I mounted the trunk and backrest forward about 2". We have not been on the road with this yet as I just install it over the holiday and its too cold to ride.

This is a $60 cheapie trunk off of ebay. When I got new modular helmets, they would not fit in the trunk. So I cut several inches off the bottom and put in a wooden bottom. Now it is a low and lean trunk.

I went with Givi mount and Kappa K53N.
I have not gone as far as adding lights, but I love that it easily detaches and turnes into luggage with a handle.
I had to fab up a piece of 1/4" steel using the mount as a template. I created some risers by drilling holes through 1" round steel.
(If I were to make any adjustments I would bring it forward a little bit or add an actual back rest. The wifey doesn't feel like she is going to fall off any more, but is not the most comfortable for her. However, she rarely rides)

I got this from a member on here. Colour-matched and a Dale rack to boot! Fits two full-face helmets inside. Now I’m fabricating a mould for it to sit in and look flush underneath. I still need to find a stubby antenna.

IMHO, that is the best looking trunk I've ever seen on a B. The size and lines of that trunk look like it was made for this exact bike. It looks stock to me. I think the razor style trunks look cool too as do some others but that Beemer trunk is nearly perfect.

I actually bought this one last week. Is not as expensive as the givi and it has plenty of space, but the most important feature, in my humble opinion, is that you don't have to pay extra for the base since it comes with it. I'm planning on having this painted to match the bike's color. for a $112.00 you can't beat that compared to almost $500.00 for a givi with the base. The only issue you may run into is the type of rack you have on your bike. If you have the OEM for the F6B you may have some issues but if you have a larger rack you will be fine. I have a friend of mine making me a larger rack based on the OEM.

I have one question with the Tour Pack are you able to swing your leg over the tour pack or do you have to do the through the middle move to mount. Just wondered. I would not go larger than the razor but just wondered.

I have changed mine to the shorty in the past but the reception is terrible. Its bad enough with the stock anything shorter is not going to pick up much at all and it didn't. stuck with original. LOL

I thought maybe I should show what I wound up doing for a trunk on my F6BD. I initially bought a cheap, used tour pack on eBay ($40) from an older Ultra Classic. I wanted to test my idea on a cheap case before drilling holes in an expensive one. My idea was to utilize a sandwiched plate system to redirect the forces from horizontal - to vertical - so that the plastic bottom of the case wouldn't be the stressed member, but instead, the energy would be transferred to the plates, which would then direct the forces down into the mounting holes on the bike. Once I tested it all, and verified that it worked with significant weight with minimal deflection or flex, I bought a new King Tour Pack for one of the newer Rushmore HD touring bikes on eBay. It's one of the biggest touring trunks you can get - which is exactly what I wanted. I use my bike every single day, all winter, in 19-degree F temps. Daily work commuting, grocery shopping, Walmart trips - everything. I just ordered all the turn, running and stop LED lights for it, and will also relocate the stock F6B radio antenna with a HD replacement antenna to the HD antenna bosses located at the rear of the new trunk. I chose to get a trunk without a backrest because I am planning on building an open cubicle for a puppy to ride with me. Yeah, I wanna get a dog and train him to ride with me wherever I go! :)

I hope that all makes sense, and that you guys get the idea with the pictures. Just wanted to share an idea in case it helps someone else on here.

BLESSINGS!

Looks good. I followed the same "sandwich" philosophy when mounting mine, utilized the HD pack lights, but went a little farther with the actual mount. Instead of utilizing all thread like is common for this type of project, I located some steel tubing and cut to length for added rigidity. Half of my pack is used for audio and I am considering acquiring a larger pack for travel. My next step is fabbing a mount using the HD dock so I can easily switch between the various packs.
