I do not changhe my crush washer with every oil change. I guess I'm really asking if most change it every oil change or some other interval.

Never - I installed a Stahlbus drain plug a few years ago. One of the best accessory items I installed. I do install a new washer on the rear drive however every time I change that fluid. :)

How much lower does the Stahlbus stick out, although I'm guessing it's not a clearance issue?

Pretty neat set up. Do you ever have to snug it up? Any issues?

Thanks for the graphics, biglry.

Nah. I got them back when I had my Wing so I use them.

The Stahlbus just replaces your existing drain plug so there are no clearance issues what-so-ever. Once installed it's never removed. As you will see from the pics that Larry posted there is an aluminum dust/dirt cap that screws on after you drain your oil. The cap is just to keep everything clean until next time. You just push in the connector and give it about a 1/8 turn and wha-lah, the oil starts draining out the tube into your pan. No muss, no fuss, no drips. I have one on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee also - no issues at all. The only con is the price. I think I paid around $45.00 for it. I've tried other brands but this is my choice.

Looks cool, but at $45 plus, I can get a lifetime worth of crush washers.

Looks like a good idea for some vehicles that have an easily accessible filter. On the GL-1800, with the filter right next to the drain plug, I'm not sure you save much time since you need to be working in that area anyway.

There are some interesting oil filters and drain plugs showing up in automotive engines. The Ford 2.7 twin turbo engine, used in the F150 and Fusion Sport, has a plastic oil pan with a quick release plug that can be removed without tools. The plug is so large that all the oil drains in just seconds. The filter is a canister type in a top opening plastic housing on top of the engine. It can be changed without spilling a drop.
