I'm a DIY kind of person too... but when it came to a carpet for my saddlebags, I went with these...

P/U a cheap "rem" at Lowes, they're EZ to cut out & fit.
PLUS you get to sign the template, just as I did :)

I used gray carpet runner from Home Depot... I think it was $4 worth.
Then to lighten things up even more - because the inside of black saddlebags are like a cave, especially in a garage - I picked up a couple of those LED switch plate lights.
I paid $5 each at Harbor Freight, but you can find them all over for $2 on sale. Forget about the mounting magnets, and forget about the enclosed imitation velcro and the OEM AA batteries.
Get real batteries, and the really high quality 3M clear plastic hook and loop fasteners rated for 10lbs, then mount the lights inside, on the angled top backs of the bags.
WOW thassa lotta light inside! No more searching in the dark.

This is such a mystery to me, why a simple template of a carpet liner is so difficult to share. Not saying anything about you or your message, but it would seem this would be something readily available all over the place to those who like to use different materials. I would love a template to use and try out some other stuff, but finding a template is either my search abilities are waning or there is some secret handshake necessary to find a simple template. Any help is certainly appreciated.
