There's a T-34 in front of the school. It's prop driven...

Correction: it's actually a T-28. Old school piston engine plane. The T-34 had a turbo-prop.

What if...
...one of my greyhounds passed away at 0315 this morning?

I think he had a stroke.
Was making his way from the bedroom to the den and heard him fall.
I carried him to a bed in the den.
He seemed normal, but wouldn't move any of his limbs.
As I was petting him, he raised his head a few times then sighed and stopped breathing.
He was a good dog - we referred to him as the "Irish Setter of Greyhounds" - he wasn't the sharpest dog that ever lived.
His name was Harley.

Sorry to hear that. It sucks when you lose a pet as they're part of the family. I'm a Boxer guy and also had a Harley. Don't think the wife's ever letting me name one Honda. Harleys even got a monopoly on pet names when it comes to bikes.

What if.....we took the 5 Billion dollars that we spent on this years election (After all the votes are cast on Tuesday, about $5 billion will have been spent this cycle in campaign cash -- making this midterm election the most expensive in United States history.)
And used it for health care, education, veterans, and/or other worthwhile projects. We could even build the stupid wall. (note : i am conservative but hate the wall idea).
Anything but give these jackasses more of our money.

I'll have to disagree on the money spent ( Although I hate listening to all of it).
That money wasn't burned. It was spent with printing houses and video production operations. That money paid a lot of salaries and generated a lot of money in taxes. So it was in a roundabout way worthwhile.

The big question is, can the charities servieve when there is no tax deduction for people, business to write off. The church’s may do all right. How about the colleges, schools soup kitchens that depend on people and business that donate large and small sums of money for research or for building infrastructure at the schools. What would be the consequences of people that fund scholarships. A flat tax is a nice sound bite, but one has to consider the larger picture of how and what deductions are tied to. With a flat tax would the now non profits be required to pay a flat tax on donations and grants? Much more complicated than what we can fix hear.

Oh, I can "FIX" a lot of stuff - it's just that no one wants to play along!

I think we'd be surprised at how much "overhead" and excessive jobs actually exist in "many" of those institutions you mention.
We can start with the Clinton Foundation......

Now, I'm all about people giving back to the community and if they choose to truly donate their money - they should not be benefitting other than the endorphins for the mental moral goodness they have done.
We have too many colleges as it is - that herd needs thinning anyway.
Public schools & soup kitchens are generally gov't funded - minimal impact there. And of course, if someone or some business wants to be TRULY altruistic, that's their prerogative.

"True generosity" and "tax deductions" should be morally (AND legally) exclusive of each other. My $0.02

The remote system that is sold could be wired that way.
That having been said....I like how I have the pushbutton on my fob, and I can open my bags without having my key in the ignition, as in, I'm just dropping something off or picking something up, but have no intention of firing up the bike.

What if, there was a bi-partisan bill passed that would have prevented electrical California Wild Fires and Brown vetoed it ?

As California Burns, Jerry Brown Takes Heat for Vetoing 2016 Wildfire Mitigation Bill (http://citizensjournal.us/118506-2/?fbclid=IwAR2PjJ3xwYHzBTHFM8V1PIDXelsuPyft6yx2fi7T yAZlntA4-v2M4DqIAmA)

California Gov. Jerry Brown’s decision to veto a 2016 bipartisan bill aimed at mitigating wildfire risks from power lines and utility equipment has become the focus of critics as fires rage across the state.

Wildfires have scorched more than 221,000 acres across California since Thursday, and Brown’s critics are pointing to the two-year-old veto as news reports suggest power lines may have sparked the deadliest wildfire in California’s history.

“He has done nothing to harden those assets,” state Sen. John Moorlach, a Republican, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Moorlach sponsored the 2016 bill, called SB 1463, which would have given local governments a bigger role in putting together fire risk maps with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Cal Fire, the state’s firefighting agency.

The bill also required the CPUC to work with utilities to mitigate wildfire risks, including putting transmission lines underground if necessary. The bill passed through both state legislative chambers, but Brown vetoed the bill in September 2016.

Concur. They found the pilot (dead) and the backseater (alive) from the F-18. None of the Hercules crew has been found.
This is just me hypothesizing from this point forward....
C-130s are INCREDIBLY robust aircraft and the ways to take them out are to run them out of fuel or cripple the flight controls and actuators (i.e. pilots, controls, cockpit)
I think they went "beak to beak" and the F-18 went into the cockpit of the C-130.
The F-18 has ejection seats, the C-130, not so.
If the rear pilot in the F-18 actuated the ejection, the front pilot may have been already "beyond hope."
Weather near Japan this time of year ABSOLUTELY SUCKS and at 0200 local time weather is hard to discern.
Again, just my hypothesizing.

Plausible. Helluva leak to cause that much acceleration.
I've plugged several times behind a C-130 and once plugged, you take station above the C-130's wing.
If a large amount of fuel leaked at just the right time, they could have hit the wing I suppose...
It's still heart breaking.

C-130s are a great aircraft, and been around for a very long time. Durable as h###. I served in the 82nd
Airborne Div, out of Fort Bragg, so most of my flights were just one way. Up. We flew thru so terrible storms and windy conditions. Bounced around, but they held together, but no aircraft can survive a head on collision. My prayers to the missing and their families.

What if...
...today is my 56th birthday?
I'm now as old as my father was when I went to Desert Shield a week after Hussein invaded Kuwait. I honestly wasn't convinced I was coming home in an animated piece. The "million man Army" and the elite "Republican Guard" had all these Soviet weapons designed to take out helicopters. As arguably one of the better pilots in the squadron, the difficult missions would be including me; that was a given.

My dad wasn't sure I'd be coming home either. Mom didn't say anything. Dad had recently made a "life-transition" - building his home-based business, trying to make some sort of fortune after being a company man for 35+ years and getting run over.
They were "financially okay" with 2 kids through the Naval Academy, one a Capt in the USMC, the other a LTJG in the Navy, the 3d a new 2ndLt from an AF ROTC scholarship, and 1 kid still living at home, but heading out the door soon to USNA.

We often compare ourselves to our parents to determine "success."
Here I am, at that same age now, financially comfortable (not going to buy a fleet of Ferraris but not worried about buying the high end cuts of beef either), not needing to work daily, and thoroughly enjoying my daily life.
Both my daughters are doing well. They both have jobs they love and are getting paid to do them.
This compared to where he was, getting up at 06, showering, shaving, putting on his suit and "going to work" in the back office in the house to make money for the next meal, mortgage, insurance, etc. Over the next 20 years, he made a LOT of money in his home based business. From age 56-75, he made more than enough to let him travel the world, "work" on mid-sized sailing vessels - the schooner "Zodiac" out of Washington State was his favorite. However, at age 68, his doctor put him on a heavy dose of Lipitor to combat a cholesterol issue and after ten years on the statins, his leg muscles had degraded such that he could only do the "Tim Conway Old Man" shuffle and has been basically unable to comfortably motigate himself about since 2010. At age 84 now, sailing on the Zodiac has sadly not been an option for him for several years.

As I look towards the next 20+ years of my life, I want to be on two wheels, 'sailing' the country, meeting new and interesting people, and thoroughly enjoying the friends I have made over my life time.
With the help of a very significant friend to keep me accountable, I've started a path towards a healthier lifestyle that not even the USMC could instill in me while I was serving.
My goal is to get rid of about 35 pounds (210 to 175), get off my blood pressure meds (should happen when I lose the weight) and maintain proper body chemistry to avoid having to go on any "long-term" scripts.
Cancers cannot exist and propagate in an alkaline environment, while they do thrive in an acidic one.
Bottom line: eating the right foods and the GOOD right foods is paramount to success in this goal. They can be made very tasty as well. The age old question "Synthetic or Dino" DOES matter! No GMO for me, please.
Proper daily dosages of "non GMO anti-micobials" (scotch, bourbon, etc) also help.

So, on this day, I wish all of you the best in the coming Year. 2019 is going to rock!
Don't make New Year's Resolutions - make Life Goals. If you can do something for 30 days, it becomes routine.

We had a blast!
6 GREAT students, 3 of them brand new riders, 3 of them had 'some' experience.
Needless to say, the new riders are ALWAYS my best students - no bad habits to break!
The common denominator in experienced rider problems continues to be these two things:
1. Not setting throttle and using the friction zone (aka 'riding the clutch') for low speed maneuvers.
2. Not keeping the head (not just eyes...use the whole head) up and in the direction of intended travel. Using the whole head forces the arms and body to shift to permit proper control inputs.

It's a joy to watch these riders "get it" when they do.
You can see the light bulb go on over their head, the huge smile under their helmet, and the twinkle in their eye.
That's why I do this.
Cheers,
Steve

Steve, how many of the riders have big bikes? How many drop them?

For the Basic Rider Course, we provide the bikes; Yamaha VStar 250 or Yamaha TW200 (for longer inseams).
Usually one or two get no kidding just 'dropped' each class. About every 5th class of 12, someone will try and defy physics by using the front brake to correct their speed while IN the turn and wipe out.

For the BRC2, Experienced Rider Course, and the Advanced Rider Course, the students bring their own bikes, and very seldom does one get dropped, but it does happen - usually if the student had less than 6 months 'good' experience on that particular bike.

Hope that answers your question....

It's a lot different now, Steve. Yamaha makes a turbocharged triple four-stroke that makes 200+hp; Ski Doo and Polaris have 850 cc direct-injected two-strokes that make north of 160 hp in 450 lb. machines. You will need $16,000 to experience these machines, however.

This is the first time my labs have all been "Normal" in over 15 years.
I guess I'm all better now....

Well, I'd say "Good job!" and "Looks like you live in Colorado"
My sister is in Monument...her snow reports, quite frankly, scare me. "Nothing" to "feet of snow" in an hour.
No thanks.

It has been a pretty mild winter, but we really need the moisture!! It must have been rain or a mix at your place. All snow at 8500 feet.

Light mix but nothing stuck. Mostly rain all day. Big difference between 8500 n 5000.

Yep, but not this year. With the rotator cuff surgery in mid-Feb there won’t be any riding until well after the snow is gone.

What if...
...I had the rotator cuff surgery in '97?
...It was a success?
...I still don't trust it completely?
When my shoulder blew out, it hurt. VERY BADLY. Not doing that again.

Best of luck with yours.
My post surgery advice: get the HOTTEST therapist you can get, because you are NOT going to push yourself for some gender neutral, half baked millennial that resembles the Verizon spokes-dude.

Yep, it hurts enough that I actually want surgery. My personal trainer has had both shoulders done, so he’s been advising me. We are doing pre-surgery routine now to help with good blood circulation, etc. He is a good friend and will be taking me and sitting in on my first post-surgery meeting.

Very cool that you are doing pre-stuff.
My surgery was quite literally one week after I messed it up.

Well, my NFL cheering mantra is this:
EAGLES
Whoever is playing Dallas
Green Bay

So, while I'm happy that the Rams beat Dallas, I think the Eagles would want to beat Dallas mores than the Rams in the NFC Championship game.

What if...
...4 new riders were turned loose on the world yesterday?
Roger, Danny, Ron, and Jack

Roger wants a VTX1300 for a starter bike - tall gent, football player build. He was a starting linebacker for a local high school at one time I'm sure.
Danny now in retirement (and now legally riding) wants to buy a Harley and drive all around the country.
Ron was looking to polish his skills.
Jack has had "riding legally" on his bucket list for over 30 years and finally did something about it.

I really like helping people fulfill their dreams.
Cheers,
Steve

Ya, I suppose I'd be tired of them by now myself. I have a friend, who I thought, made a good point. He's a die hard Browns fan and lives up here. He said he's happy to watch history being made instead of reading about it, like Babe Ruth. At least he's seeing it himself. You have to admit, records are made to be broken, but this may take a while.
