View Full Version : Thinking about a seat upgrade. RDL

Just wanted to put some thought to it, I am settled on the Russell seat, and probably a backrest from them, while I am at it. Anyone have pics of this setup? Afterthoughts once you had it in? My seat is not bad at all, but I am all about the comfort, figure its gonna cost me a grand anyway just to get it done like I want it with some velour inserts and a backrest. Any advice before I give them a ring?

I think mine took about 3 or 4 weeks

It's winter, you've got time. The wait varies. Call RDL, speak to Jay, get your "start date.". I've had 3 (3 diff. bikes) love all of them. I prefer leather. Think about heat in your area.

No joke, I have months. Will give them a call Monday and get some dialogue going on timelines and options

I had a RDL on a Kawasaki Concours 1400. Did not care for it . pushed me forward. I put an Ultimate on my F6B it is fantastic.

The good thing about the RDL is it is custom made to your measurements and fit. I requested mine to be up and back quite a bit and that is the way it came giving me more leg room. Getting a used one made for someone else is a crap shoot. I also did not get the leather, heated or a back rest and I really like the way it feels. I think cost was just over 800, I had to pay for the extra padding for my weight being over a certain amount and the F6B incurs an extra fee for it size. I also had a long shipping from Cal to FL.

If you live near their factory you can get it done in one day if not you will have to send them a seat pan and that takes time. I purchased a used seat and sent it to them. I continued to ride during waiting time. Russell doesn't keep seat pans in stock and the F6B is different than the 1800. Also a you will send a picture of you sitting on the bike.

Yeah was kind of wondering if it would be easier to buy a stock seat off eBay and have it shipped right to them.

Great choice, here's a video I did when I first bought it comparing it to stock.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hjcwAXq3Uq8

There is a 5% compression over time, that gets it snugly, sits you back just a little bit but you can request to stay right where you are if you like your position now. Right out of the box you'll notice the difference the ride will be effortless without fatigue in the lower back, 8-10 hours of riding are no problem. As the video states you will have to get used to moving forward when you come to a stop but after a few times it becomes second nature. This seat will change the whole ride I can't stress what a difference it will make, good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. This only solidifies my plan to get that RDL this winter. Having some lower back pains on my Indian I got rid of, and just some slight stuff on the F6b, comfort is the main thing for me. First ride on it was 400 miles and was pretty good, but I know that RDL comfort as I had one on my police bike, ridiculously good. Going to have to get this all figured out and under way.

My RDL is very comfortable but they did put the back rest too far back.

Rick,
Mine was a little too far back too so I installed the smallest bead rider I could find and it worked out perfectly. Also it is useful for another thing and that is keeping air circulating around your back like it does when put on the seat. You never have to lean forward on a long ride due to sweat on your back.

That is a good idea, thanks for the suggestion, I'll start looking for one.

Nevada is a great place to rent................

It's 1557 miles Dallas to Brooklyn.....Get the D, buy the B, and I'll meet you 1/2 way in North Carolina next spring.......................or NEVADA.

Forget SC and Nevada, the day after the case is over I'll be on this board looking for another one and doing another cross country, I'll swing South to hook up and then we'll head out to BIGLRY's and there's a gal at the G Spot Bar and Grill in Carlsbad I haven't seen in 3 years I'd like to say Hi to, again.

Actually, it'll just mean Hi, I have realized I have a disease and it's called ledaroundbymydickitis, every time he points me in a direction it costs me a ton of money. Next time I get the feeling to marry I'll just take a shortcut, find a woman I hate and give her half my money
