As we age, this is most appropriate

It wouldn't be funny if it wasn't so true... Julie Andrews turned 80 -
To commemorate her 80th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie "Sound Of Music."

Here are the actual lyrics she used:

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting, Walkers and handrails and
new dental fittings, Bundles of magazines tied up in string, These are a few
of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses, Polident and Fixodent
and false teeth in glasses, Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak, When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things, And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions, No spicy hot food or food
cooked with onions, Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin', Thin bones and
fractures and hair that is thinnin', And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames, When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break, When the eyes grow dim, Then I remember the great life I've had, And then I don't feel so bad.

(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over
four minutes and repeated encores.)

I went to bed bed a "young man" and awoke a "old man".......life is ever fleeting and passes in the "blink of a eye". Enjoy every minute to include the "aches and pains".:o

On getting older...
My anniversary & birthday are between Christmas and the New Year.
This year, I'll be as old as my father was when I went to Desert Shield / Desert Storm.
My eldest turned one year old on 17 Jan, 1991 - Desert Storm Air War beginning.
My brain has been chewing on that for a few weeks now.....

As mentioned in this thread, I've come to embrace those little aches & pains that remind me what I've accomplished and what I've not quite done as well.
But it's all about living life to its fullest.
I see so many people content to merely exist, sitting in their sofas, staring at screens of flickering light. While most may find it genuinely entertaining, I'm not there.
I need to be out & about, doing stuff, learning, taking things apart, making things better.
Someday, I may be forced to just sit due to health reasons - but those days hopefully won't be for awhile nor will they hopefully last too long.
I'm not so secretly envious of our forum septuagenarians riding - hoping I'll still be on two wheels when I'm 70+ years old.
Y'all have a great day - I need to go for a 3 mile run.
Cheers,
Steve

A kid I sort of mentored before I retired called to say hello/thanks/ Merry Christmas. And he said something I thought was pretty wise for a youngun.
" You need to get out of the house and give life a chance to happen".
No 3 mile runs for these knees but getting one out of the stable sounds good, even if it's just a short ride.
