Just trying to take the pulse on the opinion of the baker wings and similar products. Im looking to lengthen my riding season with a little more air deflection during the colder months. I know you guys are looking to see where Im located, and I'll admit I not in the "Cold" part of the country, but I work nights and often ride before the sun comes up. (Im in Virginia for those who havnt looked.)

So do they make a difference?

Thanks guys

Wouldn't ride without the baker wings on my mirrors, I'm in southern PA, works great for winter and summer! You won't regret having them!

Oh yeah. I had them on my 02 Wing for 150+K miles and they are great at keeping cold air away and routing fresh air in when it’s hot. One of the first things I added to my B and very pleased.

Cool weather: wind goes away from you hands.
Warm weather, coupled with a "BeadRider" under your tush, you get some GREAT airflow between your, uh, 'twins.'
Great accessory!

Steve

I noticed here in northern Ohio, when there open you get lots of air. When there closed your hands stay warmer, And I get heat from the radiator.
Have to leave em open sometimes cause of the heat.

what about the other air deflectors? And by that, I mean the fairing and foot wings. I probably wouldnt do the foot ones, but the fairing my interest me.

I didn't see the need for the lower wings. I don't feel that much air on me with my legs tucked in.
If I want more air down low I put my feet on the highway bars.
Most of the air that bothers me comes from behind and I get some across my ears.
Without the trunk on the back I feel wind pushing on my back. Your sort of sitting in a vacuum.
I ware a half helmet most of the time.
If I were to ride in winter, which I don't. I would have all the deflectors I could.
Just my opinion.

Heated gloves and no air deflectors needed.

I agree with tenxxx as to lowers etc not needed. I had them on my older Wing but not needed on this big fairing. I really like my vented windshield (appears Mad$tadt does really well also) to get rid of the vacuum created behind windshields.

Unless your calves & thighs extend outside the fairing, I would say not required.

Steve

The Mad$stadt design handles that issue without a vent. Vent for other windshields. Sorry I was not clear in my post.

I think if you put a vent the type Ive seen on other GWs it would interfere with the air flow up between the two shields and and disrupt what makes the mastad work so well. Besides it is not perfectly still behind so a vent is really not needed.

Well I am a bit of a fatty. But I'll try the hand wings first and see how it goes.

I'm 6'3" 250 and don't need anymore than the hand wings, I ride home every night after midnight, rode last year up to Christmas day. But I also have heated grip on my 16 deluxe. But with my cold weather gear on I was fine. I've been ridding that past 14 years down to 30 degrees at night, 35 miles home between 55 and 75 mph on the highway. Had a 1200 and a 1500 with the lower wings on, but my F6B is fine with just the hand wings for me.

Hey Bob, I'm just north of you and have them on my bike. This mornings commute up 395 was in 31 degree (not factoring wind chill) air. The Bakers + grip warmers (stock) and a good set of winter gloves had my hands toasty.

I will also vouch for the Baker wings.

Only thing I will add is that I experience some minor helmet buffeting with the hand wings upon. My compromise has been to keep the right side open to keep my throttle hand cool.

I do use the foot deflectors, and they work well in cold weather as air does hit your feet, directed under the valve covers. Also, they keep your feet dry in the rain. Only problem is that they are fragile, but I have found that Max-1 glue will repair them.

And another thing I noticed is that the rain just doesn't hit your hands with the Baker Wings. It is a nice plus.

Now that would be a nice to have feature. I have been through several pairs of waterproof over gloves and have not found a good working set I like yet.

I put the baker hand wings on this past year. I was hesitant because I didn’t like the looks, but I use them all the time. Deflect air away during the chilly morning then adjust to pull air in when it warms up. I have risers so my hands are mostly behind the mirrors. I notice the change of air along my sides from my belt up towards my arm pits. It does also change some of the wind that blows on your back at certain speeds. Also I believe they are made in Ohio!

A side note. The template to mount the stops are for a full wing. I think I transferred the indexing line and flipped it over to work for the B. But it took some adjusting to get the stops and the tension correct.
