I've said for years the US needs to reinstate the draft, make it no deferment, and put the body counts back on national TV. Those actions will shorten dramatically any wars we get into, if we choose to get into them at all.

I prefer that politicians put out a clearly defined goal and then step all the way back and let the military do their thing. No ifs-ands-buts. I don't want draftee's, nor do I think we need them. I do, however really, really like the idea of citizenship being tied to service of some sort as illustrated in the novel 'Starship Troopers'. Perhaps not only military, but any public servant (first responders, etc). People holding public office would also have to be citizens.

I served as well.

Not everyone that volunteers wants to be there, (not their); to think everyone in the military is there because they are a super patriot is just silly.

A draft with no deferments, and body counts publicized, will pull back the curtain on the sacrifices given by everyone, whenever this country goes to war. As it is now, our volunteers serve multiple deployments, and the only people that see the dead are those of us who ride with the PGR.

every time I go to my Fathers and Mom,s site at Arlington I see the price it cost.
You can see it by the shade of white to gray of the grave stones.
I think it is section 65 that most of our younger service men and women are
being interned. You immediately can tell by the stark white of the stones and
as you approach you see dates that these warier were born starting in the
90s to yes early 2000s.
What we need is for every young person to make a trip to this location and even
more important is to listen to the stories that the people there would tell you
about the people whos markers they see.
Listen how they mostly sacrificed themselves for the man or woman standing
next to them and not really for country.

Damn, I wish a person could like posts on this forum. Wish you were coming back to CO for the get together in September.
