I didn't like to grab a key to get the left saddlebag open, so I made this permanent key by taking a hacksaw to a spare key and using Gorilla Epoxy to cement it into a Gibson Les Paul speed knob. I borrowed (stole) this idea from someone on this forum if I recall. I'd guess you could do the same with any object. Like a spark plug, or ?

Just make sure you put the key in so the volume is ALL THE WAY UP!

On the B, the volume knob is always in your right hand.

So far, after turning it around a dozen times...it has held up.

Most, me included, have used a Goldwing radio knob. Mine have held up well, even in the tight rear lock for the saddlebags.

Made a 2nd one for the ignition...looks even better than the photo. Someone needs to 1-up me on the creativity here.

I thought the Honda keys had a microchip transponder in the top plastic?

I don't think so, SeaSteve. I made copies of mine using blanks from Home Depot (intending to make a radio knob one for the saddle bags one day) and the copies work fine in the ignition.

You guys leave those in the lock at all times?

I don't know about a chip, but there are keys for the bags, etc. that won't work in the ignition because they are shorter.

I leave my converted volume keys in my gas lid and glove box lock, it looks better, easier access but I also don't leave my bike parked outside over night

Agree. Mine still work in the ignition because I never got around to cutting them off shorter to install the knobs. :)

Depends. In my garage, or a safe area like Blue Ridge, GA (2 hours north of Atlanta) yes. If in unsafe areas like Philadelphia, DC, Austin, or Baltimore, - no. Made one for the gas door. Now I can't stop. I was shocked how well the epoxy holds

These are available at Stew Mac guitar parts (authentic Fender/Gibson). The ones on eBay are just fine and cheaper. The Remington shotgun shell ends would be different. They are on Etsy for $22/pair. Some ideas...

I leave a short "modified" key in the glove box lock and a long "modified" key in the saddle bag lock. I used the OEM Honda chrome radio knobs so they "sort of" blend in with the locks. When I park in an unsafe place I take them all out, along with all the removable accessories, and lock them in the saddlebags using my ignition key.
