In 1977 the USAF decided to send a newly divorced NCO to a base outside Madrid Spain for a 3 year tour. The best 3 years of my life.... met lifelong friends, dated the hottest Spanish senioritas, traveled all over Europe and a little N. Africa and then I swore, like MacArthur, that I would return. And yes, there was some work in those three years, but I dont remember much of that other than sliding off the fuselage of an F4D during a rain storm in Turkey and breaking my wrist. Fast forward 46 years and here I sit, newly divorced again, 6 weeks away from a 2 week trip I have planned. Have paid for the airfare, an AirBnB in Malaga Spain, rental of a BMW F900 m/c, and tickets to the Moto GP race in Jerez. In prep for this adventure I have been upgrading my Spanish through Babel, studying maps, have my international drivers license, and had a knee replacement last week. I know I should be riding to prepare, but it will be a couple weeks before I can comfortably do that. Still looking into medical insurance. So, its been a while and i feel fairly comfortable about the trip but is there anything I am missing?

Take your credit cards and enjoy. Sounds like a great trip.

Yeah, make sure your passport has valid dates, bring credit cards, notify them, and get a pickpocket-proof place on your body, and enjoy the heck out of your trip, and let us know how you made out, with or without the senioritas :).

..and make some copies of your passport. Am sad that your relationship didn't work out after you got to Tennessee. Shit has been rough for many married folk. Who knows what's in the future for many of us these days. Hope your mending physically and mentally, and hope to see you in Franklin later this year.

Thanks for the kind words Will......Both Jeff (ZZ54) and I are looking forward to the Labor Day get together. If any of you ever get down this way, you are welcome to stop by. I have some nice land available for camping and I am less than an hour from Cherohola and the Dragon.

Sounds like a great trip! I'm jealous. Hope it turns out better than your 1st trip. So, no broken bones this time!

I was in Rota Spain about that same time, of course I was a kid and my Dad was in the Navy, but I loved it there. I learned to swim in the ocean in Spain, and during summer break, Dad, Mom,Sister and I travelled all over Europe in a VW camper van...so many great memories . I hope you have a great time and it lives up to your memories.
