replacing my left hand top left storage compartment

I removed the left hand storage compartment on my 2015 F6B to do some work on the wireing. I saw how to remove the 4 small plastic rivets by pushing down on the center section. No problem. But now I can't seem to get them reinstalled. I've got the storage compartment back in place but when I try to replace the rivets the center section does not return to the "up" position, and if I try to insert them with the center section in the "up" position they won't fit. I've checked the owners manual and youtube but can't seem to find how these should be reinserted. Can anyone smarten me up on this ? I would greatly appreciate it.

You push them down as you did to remove them, Push the pin the other way (up if you will) insert clip into hole, then push pin flush with finger.
