Had a wing in the 80's that I used to ride to the parts store when building my first Harley. Also had a seventy's model BMW. It was an oldie that had issues. Got it from a junk yard. A Sears Interstate also from a junk yard ,Rupp Mini bike , Bennelli 250 enduro,Honda 750-4, and a Honda 305 Dream, Yamaha 650,Yahama XS1100,and I'm sure I've forgotten a few. Anyway once the Panhead was up and running I rode Harleys through the years .Knuckle Heads, Pan Heads, Shovel Heads, Shovesters, Sportsters, Evo's,96's, 103's. 113's,120's.( Holly crap I just realized if I'd put all that money in the bank instead I'd be a million air.):banghead: lol The last of which was a 2011 Road Glide Ultra till the 2013 FGB. Other than the no Cruise control I love it. Puts a smile on my face every time I ride it. Finally the Harley boys I ride with have stopped challenging it. I assume they got tired of eating Honda fumes.(None of them have found out that its limited to 125 mph)iI'm not crazy about this limit that's forced on us).......................Dickie

My F6B says Gold Wing right on it I didn't convert. I traded for a Gold Wing F6B. (This is not an inducement of Honda's water based paint).

I have owned a 1200 Wing, and two 1500 Wings, then I switched to Valkyries ( a 98, 99 and the last year made 2003). I then converted to the F6B. I am very pleased with the F6, it is one of the finest bikes I have ever owned.

I had one of the first Goldwings I think..1975 4 cylinder 900cc if I remember correctly..It was a nice bike but it and I did not agree, so I traded it for a 1976 Honda 750 Supersport with handled much better and was a lot lighter...I traded a Victory Vision Tour for my F6B and so far have absolutely no regrets....

No. The F6B is my first 'Wing...

I had absolutely no interest whatsoever in a full dress Goldwing before.

Still not interested in a full dress Goldwing due to seating position and no need for a trunk. (No need for a lot of the 'electro-gizmo's on a 'Wing either) Very happy with my 6!

Opas Ride, you are correct that the very first Goldwing was a 1975, and a 4 cylinder, but they were classified as a 1000cc engine, not a 900cc.

First bike was a Honda 160 Dream and wish I had kept it,Then a CX 500 was a great and fun ride.Next was a Honda 71 750/4 and at the time it was my dream machine.Mix in a Kawi 750 triple and a Kawi 900 which I tried to kill myself on many times. But then I saw a 1975 turquiose GL 1000.All my buddies were still riding sport bikes and thought at my young age of 25 why would I want a old man bike.I put full Vetter gear on her and that bike took me all over the country. That is another ride I wish I still had. From then on I was a Gold wing nut.

81 Gl 1100 Interstate
85 Gl 1200 Aspencade
89 1500
95 1500

Then I went and got a 05 Yamaha Roadstar Silverado as I wanted to experience the V-Twin thing.Gave her a Maxair intake,V&H powershot exhaust,Ultimate saddle and rode many miles on her.Bike was rock solid and never gave me a ouce of problem but I was getting tired of all the noise and yearned for a tour type bike again.Being 6'5" and over the 300# mark I never felt comfortable on the full dress 1800 wings so I was looking to get a Victory Vision as sitting on one and riding it the bike seem to fit me well. But then I saw that Honda was coming out with the F6B.I waited to see what it was all about and boy am I glad I did.One sit on her and a hour later the deal was sealed.I rode my Black beauty home with a s**t eating grin on my face and it returns every time I swing my leg over her.By far the most fun of any bike I have owned and I really don't know how anything could out do this one for me.

Yes and no. Did own an 03 1800 back in 2003 but only had it a yr . It wasn't for me and had no intention on getting another.
10yrs later Honda made one I actually wanted, I got it and I will NOT be moving up to a std Wing.

Have to say no since I had a Harley bagger last. Started on Honda then went to Kawi's then back to Honda then Harley & back to Honda again. This F6B is by far my favorite:lolup:. Really anticipating better weather. Don't want a different Wing.

I had '08 & '12 Wings before the F6B. The Wings followed 10 Harley's, a BMW, Kawasaki 250 dirt bike, 450 and 350 Honda's, and a '60 model 250 Zundap. After 50 years of riding, the F6B is the most fun to ride of all of them!

Sold 2007 GW for F6B. I was never really a GW guy, I'm 45, I simply bought an '07 GW almost by default. Before I had 2002 BMW K1200LT, loved that bike but it was time to move on. I usually have two bikes at a time as I also enjoy cruisers for shorter distances.

As a rule I don't buy the same bike twice, I want to experience different rides. I didn't care much for new BMW K1600 GTL so I bought a proven and reliable GW as my touring mount.

After test riding an F6B when I thought about it I realized that's it. I love the looks, I feel it finally handled similar to my BMW (better than GW), and I finally accepted the fact that my wife won't ride much with me anymore. As a single rider I don't need the trunk for extra storage or backrest for a passenger. I almost never used reverse on GW in the past (or BMW) as I am big enough to push the bike around just fine. I also almost always ride on two lane roads so didn't have much need for cruise either. I did add Throttlemeister on F6B and I do like it a lot.

In fact, all the stuff taken off GW I can either live without or add something better (my GW had a GPS that wasn't very friendly to use, I added Garmin on F6B which is so much easier to use).

I do have another bike in the stable, too. But F6B I like the most of all the bikes I owned and I had a few.

Here are pics of my previous 2007 GW and my current 2013 F6B. By the way I replaced all the badges that said ether Honda or Goldwing with F6B badges.

Had an 06 wing - wife fell asleep one too many times and I sold it before something bad happened. Have had a few different bikes since then. The F6B seems to be a good mix of several riding purposes. Can't predict how long I'll own it - longest bike relationship was 4 years with my 08 Street Glide. Only lasted that long due to my wifes insistence.

She seems to dig the new Honda so she may insist this one stay for awhile.

I was a die hard Harley-Davidson rider and thought that I'd never own anything but an H-D. I have owned numerous Electraglides, a Roadglide, and most recently a Streetglide. My local HD / Honda dealer saw me eyeballing the F6B in their showroom and asked me if I'd like to demo it for the day. It didn't take a day. After approx. 1/2 hour on the Honda I was sold. I am really enjoying this bike. I am really impressed with the amount of HP & Torque that this thing produces stock out of the crate. It's a fun bike.

I had a fully restored 81 GL1100 Interstate until a left turner took me out in mid-block. :icon_evil:
It had so many upgrades to make it perform that I took a bath from the insurance on that one, along with 9 screws and a plate in my left ankle from that damn mini van.

The F6B is the replacement, but it doesn't have the ground clearance nor the lean angle of the old wing. I like the F6B alot, but I still miss my old wing. :icon_frown:

I had 2 GL1800's before the F6B. A nice Gray 2001 and a yellow 2010. I'm also selling my Victory Vision that I've had for the past few years. I love the F6B, I was tired of the old man stigma that went with the wing but the F6 is perfect for guys my age (41) looks sinister and hip yet functions much like the wing. The matte black and no trunk do wonders for how good it looks.

Nearly 10 years ago I test rode a 2003 GL1800 a friend was having to sell. I was absolutely amazed at what a great bike it was, loved the thing. However, I ride solo so the trunk was too much, and I didn't like the looks. During the time between then and now I had a variety of bikes: Yamaha-BMW-Moto Guzzi-Harley Davidson. When I saw advanced press photos of the F6B I knew I was in trouble, had to have it! Now with close to a year owning the F6B I'm very happy with it.

I'm surprised that I owned so many Goldwings which included the Goldwing 1100 (4 cylinder), Goldwing 1200 (4 cylinder), Goldwing Interstate 1500 (6 cylinder), Valkyrie 1500 (6 cylinder), Goldwing F6B 1800 (6 cylinder)

I never had a wing before. The full wing was always a passing thought that I just let pass. I started to consider them in the last 2 years. But with the F6B, It was love at first sight. That was it and I knew it! I don't know if I could be happier with a full wing but I'm loving life with this one.
That is if it ever stops snowing up here in ct and I can actually ride!!!!

I hear a lot of forum members saying that they would have never own a full sized/full blown Goldwing...either due to the size...the trunk...or the image of being a old man's bike. But I think that ANY motorcycle you own can be ridden to be THEE bike you want, whether it is a full Golfwing, or a V-strom 650, or a old BSA Lightning 650. It is the rider that dictates what that bikes is...and what it means to them, and where they ride it. I think "most" of us know that, but when I see so many say they would not have owned a full Goldwing, it "bugs" me a little. (just a little)

All of my previous Goldwings that I have owned, were ridden like they were a ST-1100 or a ST-1300, and at times...like they were a CBR1100-XX Blackbird
:icon_wink:. It is a matter of how you ride, where you ride, and your mindset on that particular bike. I have taken a Goldwing 1500...and blown away competing BMW K1100LTs and K1100RSs, and ST-1100's at endurance rallies, and I mean it really shocked some of these other riders when a Blacked out Goldwing 1500 blows past them in the middle of the night...in the middle of the Nevada desert, and they wonder how that Wing is traveling at those speeds, or handling those curves like that.

To me, the Goldwing 1800 is truly a SPORT touring bike. I used all of my previous Goldwing 1800s as a endurance riding tool, so even the trunk on the back was utilized for long distance/endurance riding capabilities...even if it meant storing a couple nitrous bottles in there :shhh:

Any motorcycle...is what YOU make of it. There are some darn good riders out there...i.e., Big Dawg on his 2012 GL-1800 Wing, that can outride a lot of sportbike riders. Same is true with Suzuki V-Strom 650 riders...and just about any bike made...it is more about the rider...than it is the bike.

Make the most of the bike you have, be one with your bike...get to know it so well that you and it can fly like an Eagle (or Seahawk):icon_wink:

Styling is one thing, and the F6B is a great looking bike. .batman-smilie.

Low cost, minimal problems (other than changing the rear tire every 5k or so) plus it handles great. 1985 Honda V65 Sabre (a very fun ride)
1976 Honda 550F
1968 Honda CB 350 (a basket bike I restored and rode till she threw a piston arm)

That bike will ride circles around my F6 But I love the F6 and can't wait for the upgrades. But damn pissed at the
Factory for lack of cruise controll
The best bike out there and they skimp... Anybody try and convert yet!?

You know, I have high hopes for the benefits of a suspension upgrade and you're really stoking those. What was your all in cost for the upgrade?

To this point…getting aggressive with a wing in the twisties. I see some including Yellow Wolf use aftermarket suspension for this kind of riding and say that it is quite necessary. What do you Devil Wing Twisty Burners think and use personally?

K, back to the question. Yes, I've had 3 wings in the past. But, they were early models. 1976, 1977, & 1981. After quite a few Hondas I went the Kawi's route for a while. Even rode a Yamaha for a minute then on to Harley. Almost forgot the VTX & it was enjoyable. Almost had this F6B for a year and the joy & smile are still with me. Can't promise but I hope this one is with me on my 40th Anniversary of riding Wings.

I owned a 2005 Goldwing for about 9 months. That was 2 years ago. I absolutely hated it! Rear brake was so sensitive that it nearly threw me Every time I applied it. It was temperamental that way and I had no sense of confidence on it. That is why I traded it for a Yamaha Road Star 1700. When asked a few weeks ago if I wanted to test ride the f6b, I said I would but that I was going to hate it based on my previous Goldwing experience. One test ride and I was hooked....I found it so much different than that 2005 Wing I had. The rest is history. I've owner the f6b for one week and have over 500 miles on it already. I can't seem to keep off of it.a'riding''riding''riding''riding'

There was a RECALL on that problem, in some cases it caught on fire. Recall notice went out to owners in January 2012

http://www.honda.com/newsandviews/article.aspx?id=6426-en

GL1800 Brake Recall12/2/2011 9:00:00 PMAmerican Honda Motor Co., Inc. has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a potential defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in the secondary master cylinder on certain 2001-2010 and 2012 model year GL1800 motorcycles.

Situation:
The compensating port hole inside the secondary master cylinder (part of the combined-braking system) can become blocked due to (1) stacking of tolerances in manufacturing and (2) sufficient swelling of the primary pressure cup inside the master cylinder. If the compensating port hole becomes completely blocked, the rear wheel brake caliper can drag after the rider releases the brake input. If this occurs, the rear brake temperature and pressure progressively increase. Unexpected braking increases the risk of a crash and continued riding with the brake engaged can generate enough heat to cause the rear brake to catch fire.

Inspection and Repair:
Honda motorcycle dealers will inspect the secondary master cylinder of all affected motorcycles in dealership stock or sold to customers (consumers and commercial entities). If an inspection indicates that the compensator port hole can become blocked due to this problem, the dealer will replace the secondary master cylinder. Registered owners of affected motorcycles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their motorcycle to a Honda dealer. The dealer will inspect the motorcycle, and if necessary, replace the secondary master cylinder, free of charge.

Additional Details:
Honda motorcycle dealers will immediately receive a transmittal of complete repair instructions. Replacement secondary master cylinders in the U.S. will initially be made available through American Honda's dealer technical support hotline. Upon approval by NHTSA, American Honda will mail a letter to all registered owners, and also post a copy of the letter on the Honda Brand website: powersports.honda.com. Target dates for website posting are before the end of December 2011, and mail receipt by registered customers should occur before the end of January 2012.

Honda apologizes for any inconvenience this creates, but feels the safety of our customers is the highest priority. Honda encourages every customer to contact their dealer to schedule an appointment upon receiving the SAFETY RECALL letter.

... found a suitable replacement for my '81 GL100I. I typically rode it w/o the rear trunk, something you couldn't do with a faired wing since then. The newer, bigger wings just didn't seem as fun to ride. Now, after 32 years, you can again ride a wing without the recliner on the back! Love it!

The F6 is my first Wing. I didn't even consider buying a Wing until this bike came out. It's amazing how different the Wing looks by chopping off the trunk.

I've owned a few Sportsters, a Buell, Wide Glide, VTX 1800, Road King, Heritage Softail, Victory Cross Roads and now have the F6 and a 1200 Sporty in my garage. The Sporty is the essence of motorcycling for me and the F6 is the perfect tourer. Best of both worlds!

IMO, you've raised an interesting point. It is possible for a bike to be too smooth, too quiet, and, in short, too automotive. For me, the BMW K12LT I had crossed that line. From there, I went to a Triumph Rocket III and the love of riding a motocycle was back, big time! Unfortunately, it had brakes and a chassis that couldn't handle it's power which, to me, made it dangerous. The F6B seems to be about the perfect mix of performance and comfort but still feels like a motorcycle.

OK, so I don't swerve too far from the original thread, I have previously owned a Goldwing and a Valkyrie. The GW was many years ago, before the 1500, I believe. It was OK but somewhat boring. The Valkyrie was the first bike I ever owned that I felt I could ride all day long, never get tired, and was truly fun to ride. The F6B takes that up a notch :icon_biggrin:.

I've never rode a fully loaded Goldwing, but have heard many folks say it's almost like being in a convertible car. Anything on two wheels with a motor is fun as far as I'm concerned, but the stereotype is definitley out there. I can't imagine anyone riding an F6 and not thinking it's a fun and exhilirating motorycle, but I'm sure there is someone out there that wouldn't care for it.

Didn't come directly from a Goldwing to the F6B but have owned 2 GL1800s in the past. I wasn't looking nor interested in the F6B when I went looking for a new ride but just happened to sit on one at the dealer and well… it just felt right.

New to this site/forum today.
Lots of interesting conversation. Came in to get a feel for bringing the exhaust note up a notch or two, deeper throat, more soul.

I've had several WIngs, starting with the 1200, then a 1500, at the same time I had a 98 Valkyrie "sister" for over 10 years.

I got the Valk with a great exhaust note. The previous owner noted all he did was cut off the "piggies" to produce a rumble and throat that made old ladies turn and smile, and harley guys look around in confusion !

I sold the Valkyrie Tourer due to a back problem and the harder ride. I found later this was a mistake.

Then I sold the 1500 Wing noting I no longer felt the need to be able to pack a weeks worth of luggage to go for a 200 mile ride.
In a moment of foolishness and lost intelligence, I bought a 99 BMW K1200LTC. :icon_frown: WHOA.. now this was a true MISTAKE !!
Over-engineered, under powered, top heavy, impossible to work on, parts that would seem they include a round trip ticket to Germany ! All complimented by a design flaw in the final drive. I went thru two rear ends in 5000 miles.
Eight months later I walked into the Honda dealer and .......the F6B and I made eye contact, and my wife has another mistress ! !

So a long answer to your current question is ...YES.

I'll continue to research idea and suggestions here regarding improving the exhaust note to the F6B...

Never liked them, still don't. They feel top heavy, and quite frankly at 74 I'm not old enough for one.

I've had BMW's, BSA's, Triumph's, Yamaha's, Suzuki's, Kawasaki's, Honda's (several), CZ's (look that up), Montesa's back when they made moto-x bikes, scooters and a bunch of Harley's.

This F6B is undoubtedly the best of the bunch.

Technically yes. However, the other one is a 1976 GL1000 LTD. and has not ran since I inherited it. So in the spirit of the question I'm more of a cruiser guy who stepped over to a Goldwing. I still have a hard time saying that.

Never really owned a Wing. Have grown up on and around Hondas and it's funny, even as a kid, I considered the Gold Wing, the ultimate motorcycle. I went through a phase, when I just wanted/lusted after owning a Harley. I never did. I rented one and had fun, but never pulled the trigger on a loan for one. I have my father's old 86 Aspencade that I'm in the slow process of refreshing. Slow because I'm busy or lazy or spending what free cash I have on the other two bikes.:icon_rolleyes:When the Valkyries came out, it was all over. They spoke to me with their 6 cylinder, no apology attitude dripping in chrome. I'm 46 or will be in December, I have had two Valkyries and still have one. I have had the urge, doesn't everyone , to get something different. I really wanted a new 2014 Valkyrie. After test riding one, i wanted one even more, but in my need to be honest with oneself, I just knew I would want the fairing and stereo, hard bags etc... The F6B was the sexy alternative. Not yet quite the Dairy Queen cruiser that the Gold Wings are known for jokingly, but the best of two worlds, IMHO.
I really like the full wings and if the seating was the same and price was no different, it would be a no brainer . The Gold Wing sits you a little close for me.

My Valkyrie, with it's Woody's fairing, Ultimate seat and cranking sound system, is extremely comfortable. With the addition of the Corbin seat, the Ergo IIIs and now the Helibars, the F6B is very close.

I didn't see this thread before. I owned a 1978 GL100 Goldwing with all the Vetter attachments. See pic.

9133

I sold that when my kids were a few years old because I wasn't riding it much. Used the money for a down payment on a minivan. Ouch! I told the wife I would get another bike once the kids were older.

I had a 2003 Honda Valkyrie Interstate 2 bikes ago. I loved riding it, but wanted something newer and I had issues with balance when stopping with the fairing. At least that is what I think it was.

9134

I always thought about getting another Wing, I just didn't really want a full Wing since I only usually ride locally. I thought about getting one when I got my last bike, a BMW R1200RT. When I saw the F6B, I loved the look. Back in August I think it was, I saw my local dealer had a demo to ride. I went up there and rode it for an hour. Bought my on Sept 20, 2014. I love it. Best bike I've owned to date.

I ride solo, so the backseat was of no concern to me. The wife stays home and does her thing while I ride. I love the seat on the F6B much better than a full Wing. The Wings seat is so much closer to the bars. I sat on a full Wing after I test rode a B, man I felt cramped on that thing.

76% no probably means Honda is getting what they wanted out of the F6B: A gateway to the Gold Wing. I absolutely would never have considered a full wing until I owned the F6B for a while. Now I do consider switching to a full wing.
Going from a cruiser style touring bike to a full wing is too much of a change for some of us. The F6B is a nice way to bridge the gap and ease us into the wing.

Funny thing. I've owned nothing but sportbikes until my F6B last spring. I just traded my 2nd F6B for a new Goldwing and I/we love it! The B is a cool looking bike, but I much prefer riding the Wing. JMHO, yours may differ. My wife is much happier and wants to take a week long trip next summer. If I somehow pull off a bike that's just for me, it will probably be something sportbike-ish or a sport tourer.

I have owned a ton of bikes over the years including a1992 Goldwing. I hated that bike. I called it a Hondapotomus . The seat was way to wide and uncomfortable and it was a fat girl. I had previously owned some Electra glides and a couple of Yamaha Venture Royals which I loved. That V 4 power and Handling was great. I sold the Wing and went back to Harley's and a Beemer also. Swore I would never buy a Wing again. Many years go bye and I see an F6B. It was lust at first sight. I bought it and when anyone asked what is that I proudly say an F6B. This thing runs and handles like a sport bike. After several months of owning and loving this bike I realize is says Goldwing right on it. What a difference 25 years make. This could be considered coming out but I guess I am a Goldwing guy.Geez, that hurt. F6Broy

I have had a 1100, a 1200, and a 1500 Wing. Mostly because I bought them cheap and made a nice profit on each. They were all very bulky feeling though. The 1'st time I rode an 1800, it was a different bike that actually handled pretty well. I knew that the F6B would be just right for me. I always have my sweet VFR800 V-Tec to fall back to if I just want to take a quick spin !

Bought it and added a Windjammer and Craven bags. Loved that bike. Felt like I was on a huge electric motor. Then several 1200's, passed on the 1500, and the last one was the "re-welded" framed 2004 Wing. And now the 40th Anniv. F6B takes the cake for sure.
