View Full Version : Klock Werks Shield 2"s Taller

Sunday was the day to see if I sell the Klock Werks or keep it. So I drilled two new holes in it. One on each side. Not enough meat to drill a center hole. So for the Center I pinched the Shield with a large fender washer. I put a rubber washer under each bolt and tightened it down. Came out very sturdy and raised to its max. When everything is together it measures 15 1/4"s from the top of the rubber seal to the top of the shield.. This leaves the two stock holes above the seal that I will plug with a similar cap that I put in the Screw holes in the rear rack....What a difference at 85 mph. Smooth air...Klock Werks should make this shield 2"s taller. But until they do I'll ride her like it is.Still looks good and functions good too.........I know you guys want photos. So perhaps one of you will donate a nice camera.(Nikon maybe) Let me know and I'll tell you where to send it. Until then you'll have to use your Imagination.............................Dickie

Thanks for sharing this Dickie. Was finally able to put 200 miles on the with the Klock Werks and wasn't too impressed. I'm 6' and while there was no chest buffering, I was catching the air flow on the forehead. Not too bad until I put my helmet on (head got coolish) and then the wind sound was just horrible. Glad to know I can drill a couple of holes before spending another $300 on a taller windshield. Again, many thanks for sharing.

This is very good to know. I have the shield as well. Love the look but have to tip my head a bit to cut down on wind noise. I think with the 2-ish rise after drilling the new holes, it will be perfect. What size rubber washers did you use and did you keep the same bolts?

Same bolts, rubber washers I had laying around. Drilled the holes 1/2".Through the shield on each side, Pinched in the middle with fender washer and used the in between bolts as well with fender washers to pinch the shield . I'd trust it at 145 mph! I Forgot the computer won't let it go 145.....I'll get some photo's up soon as I can.............Dickie

Thats great, I would love to see it. I have to take it back to the dealer to do as I don't have the tools to do this, but any idea on where to go would be great. Might have to swing by Home Depot for some rubber washers before I go.

With what little Engineering experience I have,,, eh,, There is no doubt in my mind K-works would not approve of this modification,,, Their reply would be "H" "E" double hockey sticks NO!!!

There is zero doubt in my mind this mod reduces the structural integrity of the shield, reduces the capacity of the shield to transfer load to the mounts, and exposes that shield to additional forces never encountered by the 'as designed' shield.

Y'all are free to do as you please, but,,, please be careful.

Perhaps before you speak you should find out my background, education etc.lol I would never recommend something that was unsafe. :icon_biggrin:

Yeah, but the limited legal experience I have indicates 'Did not inform others of any potential peril, did not specifically inform others to do this at their own risk, knew that others were planning on performing this mod, and furthermore endorsed the mod to speeds of up to 145 mph"

Between the Attorney's, Engineers, and Architects I work with as part of employment with a large Corporation, eh, no wonder little thoughts like that pop up in my head!!! LOL!!!,

Participation in too many depositions / lawsuits has warped my noggin!!! :yikes:

LOL!!!

We all try things that are not recommended by manufacturers. Some work, some don't …. as a tinkerer I have tried many things, created a few prototypes and developed a few products that have been and continue to be sold to fellow motorcyclists.

I have been working on something for the F6B for about 11 months, working on the 3rd prototype and that will be another 3-4 months before a test unit is ready. I can understand the concern from a legal and safety side, hence taking my time to reduce and minimize any potential issues.

Let's keep the humor and ribbing on a positive side :nono: :catfight: and then if you guys want to see who has the biggest PiPi in Franklin, I will bring a yard stick for the ladies to judge (they'll love that, I'll have the medics nearby in case one of the ladies goes into shock from laughter). We'll even take a picture ;photog; and post it on the forum. I want to see as many UGLY, pretty, short, Tall, skinny, Fat, yellow, purple F6B Riders there, don't forget to bring the better halves and I ask that everyone enjoy the fun camaraderie, just don't bring another GPS to the party :duck:

Let's ride 'riding'

I have no doubt we are all 'characters' in one form or another! :icon_biggrin: It's quite fun when those characters can 'interact' without any feelings getting hurt or cross words spoken!

Franklin is 'undecided',,, Its about 14 hrs drive/ride, and Wife certainly can't do that on 2 wheels in August w/o heat stroke and/or spreading it out over 4 days,,, (one way) :icon_frown: Heck, not even sure I could w/o being 'more grumpy than usual' upon arrival!

We might trailer up,, but still undecided if we want to commit our (1) 'real' vacation a year to 4 days of driving to/from a destination.

One of these days we'll have untold amounts of time to spare,,, but that day isn't here yet,,,

4 days to go 14 hrs? Wow. Do like I'm thinking about my wife and leave her home. .I'm probably that many hours away...Trailer that's that thing that holds all the left over garage junk right .The thing with dry rotted tires right? We are Bikers not Trailer'ers! You must be in the same group as my cousin. Drags his 80,000 bucks worth of Harleys around in the trailer so he and his wife can ride 300miles a year! I've owned my f6b since Sept. have 8000 miles on it. My cousins bike is a 2010 and has 2000 miles on it. Surely your not like this are you? Where do you live? I'll ride to your house and escort you to Franklin.Ok.Dickie

Hey, Hey, hey …. easy killer (Dickie)

Nothing wrong with some of us being trailer queens :catfight: , I like to bring tools and a couple of bikes with me. Plus if you have ever been in a serious car accident that has wrenched your back, riding a bike for long periods of time is not as much fun as it used to be before the pain and aches. I guess I am getting older or as Steve says …. soft :f2:

I wish I could ride 8000 miles per year, some of us haven't hit the lottery yet …. that's why I look forward towards our gatherings.

'trailering' F6B Rally … I will be bringing a bike for the friday and saturday rides and a different bike for the sunday ride

Wife might make 14 hrs in 3 days, but August is 'wilt' season for her. No tolerance for heat at all. Yeah, I've thought about goin solo, but I'm not found of August either! LOL!!!

Y also need to remember trailers haul all the chit a woman requires that won't possibly fit on 2 bikes! :paintnails:

Besides, I am NOT a 'Biker',,, ;roughrider; I'm a motorcycling enthusiast! :biker: (Requires far less ammo! :071: LOL!!!)

I have cut a few windshields and I have redrilled a few none ever broke.
I cut them on my harley E G because they where not wide enough so I bought taller ones an cut them they would be wider an flat on the top.
I have a new 18 F4 Custom I am about to cut because it's going to be to tall with the mustang seat

I'm on the road touring right now with the Klock Werks Windshield raised 2"s and it made all the difference in the world. I'll get photos up as soon as I return to Florida. I Should be Home mid week next week...Its 04/24/14. Its my Birthday and I'm having a fantastic Ride.......:039:...Scotty di. I see you are in Buford Ga. Dickie,

Enjoy the ride. I really enjoy the looks and the wind management of this shield for back roads riding (below 70). I also have an F4 Customs windshield that creates a completely calm pocket and I will probably use it on long highway trips. I will probably look to raise the K Werks some once I get back in the country again.

Thanks

Scott

Trying to decide on which shield. I think the KC looks cool in the shorter styles and the dark colours as in the pictures available for the red F6B but not sure of the height and colours available for our bikes. Any info help and Pictures would be greatly appreciated.
