Did almost a 300 mile ride on Saturday, 150 up and 150 back, on the mustang seat and my butt was a tad sore. I love the look of the seat but...... Curious if anyone uses the Airhawk and how they like it? On my VTX 1300 I had the Russell Day Long seat and back rest and think that I may have to go to that. I could ride all day on the seat and it never bothered me. May have a mustang up for sale if the airhawk does not work out.

I have a buddy that works making the air hawk and ROHO wheelchair seat cushions. "Home Town company" He gave me one. And
I rode with it on a Yamaha Stratoliner to Sturgis a few years ago, I like it for what it is but it does sit you higher on the bike.
I didn't leave it on the bike the whole ride, If I felt like I needed a break in the seat I would use it off and on change it out at gas stops.
It did the job and gave me a different seating position.

Before you spend a half a Cleveland ($1,000 bill note), try getting some sheepskin and going for a ride with it on whatever seat you currently have.

I have found that the sheepskin has attributes I would not have expected: Cool in summer, warm in winter, and really really takes out the pressure points of any custom or stock seat.

I learned about this in my years of trial riding on horses. Even though I'm planning to redo the seat (with red and purple pleather--hold yourselves now!!!), I will continue to use my black sheepie fuzz on that seat, too.

And it is WAY cheaper. And you can't "hardly" see it....especially on the black seat.

Hey Stepbill,
I have the mustang seat...used the Airhawk and it did ok but I found it hard to get the air just right...plus it added a lil height...and I felt like I slid around on the seat.....

I searched several forum sites and many recommended the Alaska Leather butt pads. So, I took a chance and purchased one (medium fits perfectly) and it does feel very comfy. It also does not raise me up as much as the Airhawk did. So I agree with Elin that the sheepskin is the way to go. Rode this past weekend, 80 degree weather, my butt was cool and comfortable. However, I did notice that when my back is against the backrest of the mustang, it was sweating a little..... Prolly TMI but I just wanted all to know:icon_lol:

Hope this helps...
Ride safe,
G

Thanks Elin and G! It's weird but I already have a sheepskin from Alaskan that I bought for my VTX 1300. I will give that a try :icon_doh:

The Airhawk works well on narrow hard seats. I used mine on a Suzuki DRZ 400SM which comes stock with the seat from HELL. The trick with the Airhawk, just like a Roho cushion, is to not over inflate it. Too much air and it's like a greased log and too high. I use a sheep skin on broader flatter seats like on my Harley and Triumph. I haven't found a need to do anything with the stock seat on my F6B.

This is what I have, but I don't remember it costing THIS much.... (sigh). Link (http://www.ebay.com/itm/JMS-Brown-Sheepskin-Cover-X-Long-20-Seat-Western-Saddle-Endurance-Just-Merino-/370898055072?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565b3f2fa0)

I have used a AirHawk on my Rune as well my wife...if inflated correctly the Air Hawk should not raise the rider...once "filled" one should be able to completely compress one of the eggs and still have "alittle" room in the rest...hope this makes sense...hard to explain....
