I have a Garmin Zumo 550, any suggestions as to a good mounting site and mounting hardware. I've been using Ram Mounts on my tubular handlebar bikes, but things are different here. I suspect I'll have to find a power point of some kind for it too. Thanks good people.

Had one on my vtx 1800, mounted to the f6b on clutch side using ram ball that mounts to the clutch lever mounting bolts. Got the power from under the left pocket, hardwired into the accessory/lighter plug that is under there. Get the 12 volt outlet before you do the tap in, and kill 2 birds w/one stone. I ran the hard wire up through the channel under the bars and terminated them into a battery tender pigtail w/weather cap. Put matching end on zumo wiring so I can remove everything but the ram ball when not using gps. Jim

Sounds like a plan, thanks much.

I also use RAM mount. I power with a spiral expandable cord from the storage box 12v outlet I installed. I have double ball mount on left handlebar and single ball on the right.

I did this today....mounted my Garmin 52 to a Ram mount using the right brake cylinder. I did that because eventually my J&M handlebar mount is going on the left clutch cylinder. Hope to post a pick tomorrow. Haven't set up the wiring yet but I have an idea I think might work.

I like the X-Grip mount. It will accommodate your cell phone or GPS units of various sizes. Think of it as giving you options. I've used GPS units and my Android phone in mine, also works for iPhone. Or just about whatever.

Another option is to mount it to the side of the center console (where the key is). I mounted my Garmin Nuvi on the left side with a RAM mount (I made sure the GPS was not too wide to clear the handlebar when turning). I like that is relatively centered and independent of the handlebars.
Just the mount:
5882

And with the GPS attached:
5883

This is where I mounted mine.
