Hi folks, I've been lurking around here trying to get a feel for the F6B as I'm considering buying one after selling my 2008 Goldwing. I like the options offered on the deluxe model but don't really have a need for the backrest, nor do I really care for the looks of it or the antenna. I know the antenna can't be removed without leaving a hole in the plastic but was wondering if the backrest can be taken off and on so that it can be used on the rare occasion that the girlfriend hops on the back. I know it can be removed, but what will be needed to make it look "finished" on those days when I won't be using it. It looks like it's just four screws, but what's underneath when you remove it? Are there plastic inserts?
I really enjoy reading this forum, lots of useful information and friendly people on board. Too bad most of it has gone missing.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Kris

Mine was a standard and I add back rest. Yes the four scews will take it off. But the plastic plates our replaced with metal once a backrest is instald. To me it would be a big deal to change the plates out being you would have to remove seat. Personaly I would just run the screws back in to cover bolt holes and ride.

I don't know what is right under the screws. ie tire or what. But when the bracket is removed. Will the screws be to long? Could they hit something. Maybe a little shorter screw instead. I have not looked, but it was just a passing thought. Something to look at when removing the backrest.;)

No problem. The screws are only about an inch long.

I am getting a standard and would like to add a backrest. Do I need to buy any hardware or would all the hardware come complete with the Honda backrest?

I bought a Basic and had the dealer install the Back Rest. The rest was $399.00 and the mounting hardware was a additional $99.00. The hardware is a separate item.

Does anyone of you have a backrest how it does look like when you remove the backrest? I am wondering about the attachment for the backrest and it's bolts. TIA!

I'm also curious. Does anyone have a photo of a deluxe with the backrest removed? I really don't care for the way the backrest looks and I won't need a passenger backrest until my son is old enough to ride with me. If my deluxe wasn't still in the crate, I'd check it out for myself. If it is too ugly, I'll probably buy a rack to cover up the holes or get the non-deluxe parts to clean up the look.

53Driver, the smuggler looks great. With the loss of the handrails, what's your trick on placing your B on the center stand?

I have a Standard B and decided to upgrade with separately purchased OEM backrest . Also I've changed the seat , buying Mustang . It doesn't work for me , so I'll go for Ultimate . Selling both : Mustang Tripper Fastback seat and complete OEM backrest with main bracket ( without plates ). If interested , please contact limoles@comcast.net

Looks like a side stand plate tether. I can see someone just taking off and leaving the plate behind, arriving at their next destination and looking for it and then it hits them :icon_doh: SH!T . Just my guess.

I know those cables from brake locks. It reminds you to remove the lock from the front wheel brake to not inadvertently damage it.

Its just a plate so my side stand does not dig into the asphalt. With the string its easy just to get on the bike then pull up the string and store it

That's the way it looks, if you remove the oem backrest and keep the oem rear carrier:

After driving without the oem backrest i feel much faster and sleaker than ever before! :icon_mrgreen: :icon_cool:

Have a nice and wonderful start into spring season!
