Phantom,
Is there a way to put up a map so we can put a marker up for where we live?
It would be nice to find others close by to hook up and ride with.
Another plus would be if someone needed help, they could find the closest member.
Just a thought

Added one for me in San Diego.

Hey Harman023, you're in the middle of the St Johns River!

you don't have to add your address, and it won't zoom all the way down, but you can get real close. Once you're close enough, click on the drop button that says add marker. A target will appear for your cursor, when you're close enough click on it. Then name the location with your screen name.

To add yourself to the map, click “Sign in” at the top-right corner of the map.

(A G-mail account is required for map editing, so if you don’t have one, you will need to set one up. It’s free… easy, too)

Once you have created a G-mail account and signed in, return to the map.

Click the +/- zoom buttons in the lower right to zoom the map.
Click and drag with the hand cursor to slide the map in the window.

Immediately below the search bar is a small pallet of tools, including one that looks like a marker and says “Add marker” if you hover your cursor over it.

Click the “Add marker” tool, then move the crosshair cursor to the location you wish to mark, and click the map. A marker will be added to the map.

A small naming window will open to display the marker default name of “Point ##”. Just type your forum name in place of “Point ##” and click “Save”. Done!

If you wish to change the marker color, cursor over your marker name in the list on the left and click the little paint bucket icon that appears. Select a new color (maybe one that matches your bike?) from the color pallet that pops up. NOW you’re done.

I hope this helps.

And remember, this is a public map, so any changes of Style, Data or Labels you make on the Location Markers layer is global and affects not only what is displayed on your screen, but what everyone else sees, too.

Ride Often, Ride Safe!

EDIT - If you accidentally place a marker in the wrong location, you can click to select it, then click-drag it to the correct location.

Also, if you click your marker, there is an Edit tool that will allow you to add a comment or other info about your marker. Just type it into the comment box and "Save".

I keep/ maintain a "OWNERS Phone List" on 2 other forums.
Very helpful and everyone places a copy of the most current list next to their Insurance card and Motorcycle registration. It would always be there if you had to call a fellow Rider for assistance while on the road. Not everyone has internet service on their cell phones.

The ONLY people that could have the list were the ones that volunteered their information. No information ... No list, these are private phone lists.

They have ....

Forum name, first name, phone number, City and State

I just don't have the time to keep a third list, if anyone would like to volunteer and keep the F6B Owners Phone List, please send me a PM

Hate to do it,, but,,,

Suggest that folks understand it's impossible for the Admin to know each and every members background and/or lifestyle prior to or during their membership here.

Also please understand posting your name/address/telephone number on this map or ANYWHERE on the internet may not be in your best interest. :nono:

There was a time when a (former) member here wasn't quite the 'image' they portrayed themselves to be. Without getting into details, I'm sure today that no one here would loose any sleep knowing that specific individual did not have / could not access their name/number/address.

The individual is no longer a member, but still,,,, a lesson learned. :icon_wink:

I think the 'list' idea Phantom had is great, but I won't be on it.

I think 'general' info on the map is a good idea!

Full name, number, address on the map??? Eh,,,,,, not such a good idea!

Hey y'all, just added my tag to the map, and have lurked here a bit. Traded in my 2001 Road Glide on a 13 F6B Deluxe and my wife traded in her 1988 Honda Super Magna that she complained was too top heavy for a CTX700. I've got 500 miles on it and some pretty big plans including the 626 pipes that I need to save for, a heated corbin seat and smoke turn signals are tops of my list. I know I saw the 626's in classifieds, just dont have the cash right now - and they are even in black!

On the map, Whatever is in the top line stays there.....whatever is in the text box, is what appears on the map.

I recommend that we put our forum "handles" in the text box to make viewing more interesting.
Right now, most people put their bike year and color in the text box.

Also, one can embed video there as well. On mine, you can see me in my prior life. (I'm at 1:56 to 1:59)

In the map pan and zoom to where you want to put your marker. A dialogue box will pop up where you can enter whatever information you care to and save. It looks like you can also save a photo with the marker.
I am having trouble adding a photo, it looks like you need to grab one from a online source. I will have to figure it out later as I need to get moving now.

Steve, has your marker moved? I went last night on the link from this topic, highlighted your marker, watched the associated video (very cool video by the way). When the video was over I went to swipe my iPad to move across and look at another member and your marker went shooting up to New York. I grabbed it and slid it back towards Philly and when I let loose of the marker it planted again. Then I couldn't move it. I said to myself 'surely this isn't going to be permanent, I can't move people's markers and it stay permanent'. Please tell me it is back where it belongs.

Randy

Interesting....I'll check.

Update: It was close....but now it's on target again. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Were you logged into Google with a gmail account at the time?
If not, the controls ain't gonna show.

I think Post #18 in this thread was the "how-to" do all this.

What is the purpose of the map?
Every one of us has our city and state already posted.
Even our overseas brothers have where they live listed.
I would have liked to be given a choice.
I don't know who is really behind the posts on the forum.
For all I know someone that I do not know will show up uninvited.
I do not like those kinds of visits by strangers.

Sorry guys but I am perplexed, at no time has his account ever been turned off. I received a PM this morning from a fellow rider regarding this and I was surprised to hear this.

I just went into the control panel and checked his settings and everything from our end is fine. Perhaps he has had something on his end go wrong ???? feel free to look at the attachment, it is a screen capture of his account.

Jay was last on this site 17 days ago, so I don't understand why he would make such a statement  His account shows that he has 247 posts.

If jay had the owners information on his computer and it crashed, then were all out of luck.
Hopefully he will clear up what ever his computer is doing to prevent him from entering this site.

Calvin , our moderator has a Owners Phone List for those that want to be on it. It also has the City and State of the members.

Just want to clarify something ....

For what it's worth 99.9% of the time it is operator error.

I respond to PM's on a daily basis and don't always remember a PM from weeks back. Jay did request a new password 18 or so days ago, I did reply, reset his password with a temporary one until he could reset it with one of his own.

Turns out, Jay purchased a new computer and forgot his password on the old computer that automatically logged him in, when I sent him a PM with a new password .... he was no longer able to retrieve my PM.

I called him this morning and he called me back this afternoon and we resolved his account issue with another temporary password.

As I suspected, it was indeed an issue from his side ... For what its worth .... If you buy a new computer ... write your passwords down somewhere before completely converting over.

Well, I have tried everything I know to do and I cannot find any way to add myself to this map.

I can open the map, no problem, and easily see all the other markers added to the map. But I see no way to add my marker.

I thought the problem might be with the way I log into Google, which is via my own domain name. But I also have a gmail account, which I also signed into, still to no avail.

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and found a way around it...:cus:

Open the map, make sure the place you want to put your marker is visible (preferable in the center and zoomed in) click on the balloon and then click on the place you want to put the balloon. After that a box will pop up with a point number, remove the point number and put in whatever name you want.. You can also add photos, information, etc. Just try it it's easy once you get the hang of it.
