Looking for a better way to lock my helmet other than it hanging and banging on the saddlebag. Any ideas? Sometimes it just won't fit inside the saddlebag.

I have a 3ft cable that I run through the chin bar of the helmet & through the right side passenger grab rail then place the helmet on the seat. The cable won't let it slip onto the left saddle bag.

Same idea here but I use a gun cable lock. I, too, lock it to the grab handle and sit it on the seat.

Nothing better than a nice roomy GIVI trunk. Yes, you have to ride with a trunk. BUT, park the bike, open trunk, peel off helmet, gloves, jacket. Place in trunk, lock trunk, walk away. Out of sight (out of mind), out of weather, out of your hand. No bugs to crawl in either. I've had Givi's or the like on the last six bikes I've owned. Haven't found anything better.

Aftermarket helmet locks were ok, had one that went on the handlebar. That worked pretty good, drop the helmet over the mirror and lock to the D-ring.

Akita gun cable

Got 3 for 9 bucks, or some silly little number like that. Add a $6 masterlock and it keeps the amateurs away

Locking down the helmet on the bike keeps the honest people from getting it. Have a friend who locked his using the D rings only to come back and find someone had taken a knife and cut the strap, his helmet was still by the bike, but whoever did it, cut it loose and then threw it down on the ground. Looked like all they were interested in doing was destroying his helmet.

I made a cable long enough so that with the helmet sitting on the drivers seat it can loop around the chin bar, loop through its self and the other end loop locks to the helmit lock on the grab rail. A cable with a loop on both ends with the loops large enough to pass through each other. I store it in the center cubby. Cable has to be small enough to fit the lock opening.

My method of securing the helmet serves two purposes. Of course, it's to secure the helmet but, in my case, it also protects my Garmin Zumo. The way this works is I place my helmet over the Zumo, slip a helmet "t-bar" through the d-ring, and lock it to the bars with a HelmetLok. Like this:

I used a similar method when travelling, when the top box would be too full to allow the helmet in there. A company named PACSAFE makes (or made) a helmet bag with a steel mesh lining and integrated cable. Dropped the helmet in the bag, placed the helmet over the GPS mount, then locked the cable to some nearby hard part on the handlebar. The stops on the cable made it so that you couldn't open the bag without unlocking it first, and the metal cable and mesh would have to be cut. Added bonus was that it completely covered the GPS, making it unnecessary to remove it from the holder when parking the bike.

I like the trunk or pacsafe bag. Years ago I came back to my parked bike to find an ice cream cone had been deposited into my helmet that was hanging in the lock. I choose to believe it was a child who didn't understand the significance, not an adult who randomly vandalized someone's safety gear.

Never leave a helmet in a position where it could be 'filled' with anything,,,,

Pacsafe: This is on my old BMW R1200RT (I knew I had some pics somewhere!)

Close-up of securing cable:

Once you pull the cable tight past the little nut, it won't loosen up any further with the padlock in the same hole.
