I added Drivers back rest this morning, that will help the old back on long rides.
The Garmin 660 mount with wiring harness just arrived in the mail, I'll get Lewis at EC to install his GPS mount on the dash, centered, and wire it in the bike.

I installed the passenger backrest riser I bought from Steve.
Great addition and great price for it.
It is awesome and my wife is going to be excited to know she isn't going to fly off the back.:icon_biggrin:

The first day the extension looks odd, out of place. But after a few it is the perfect design, length and look. Steve did us good with these.

This is exactly what I thought when I saw it for the first time installed.
I was thinking I need to come up with something to cover it up.
Or maybe a stick on badge of some kind on the back of it.
Then I thought.."give it a couple of days, all will be well."
Also,if the wife likes it,my opinion will be moot.:icon_biggrin:

I had these made with the F6B logo. They fit tight but do fit the holder.

I asked for the cup dimensions and they were about the most narrow I could find.

I switched out the stock tail light/brake lights with L.E.D. bulbs, from one of our sites vendor-"Goldwinghids". They are very bright as advertised. I don't do much night driving, too many deer around here, but hope they make me easier to see for the cagers.:yikes:

I just finished three small projects:

1. Install ram mount. I mounted it as described in this thread (https://www.denniskirk.com/dk/product_images/21/600pix/21300049.jpg).

2. Hardwire power supply for GPS. I tapped into the wiring for the optional 12v outlet. I just got the TomTom Rider V5 (http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/drive/motorcycle/index.html?WT.Click_Link=top_nav_4). I'm looking forward to trying the "winding roads" feature.

3. Connected Cribclicker transmitter to highbeam wiring. My wife already has the Cribclicker for her bike, so I only needed the transmitter. I lucked out and found one for sale on Ebay as they don't make it anymore. It's basically the same thing as Flash2Pash without the crappy quality control.

Cranked up the rear preload to compensate for the passenger and tour pak. Gave it a 130 mile test ride in the mountain twisties, slabs and cross winds. The extra preload seems to have helped out in all of these conditions including crosswinds and bursts from oncoming trucks in the crosswinds. The bike seems much more planted and the squirm is gone from putting a sail on the back. Passenger says her ride is better as well so we have 2-fer-2. Braking also appears smoother with less dive.

Preload is about 12 clicks from full on. Combined rider and passenger weight is 360 + tour pak. Still working on the diet. :workout: Tire pressure is 40/40.

I hate to be an ignorant goof, but, full loading (maximus stiffness) is all the way to the right.....correct? I ran mine all the way to the right as it was only a few clicks from full left. I can't ride due to this pitiful Houston rain, but, what riding I did get in after adjustment I am challenged to notice a huge difference. All riding has been solo. What should I expect to see?

The owners manual indicates clockwise, but gives no point of reference for clockwise.

To the right/HIGH is max preload.

Haha. It's always the same; the reference is looking at the top of the moveable handle, as if you're standing above it.

So yeah; turning the adjuster clockwise will move it to the right and increase stiffness.

jm21ddd15
05-12-2015, 08:39 PM
Yes, to the right is for full pre-load. If you look at the pic in the previous post you will see a "l-R" on the end of the adjuster. Easy to follow that. I missed that the 1st time I looked at it .

Bought some miscellaneous goodies:

- Electrical Connection's relay controlled fuse block
- National Cycle's Quantum hand air deflectors
- Kury's trailer isolation relays and harness
- LED Running lights

Getting ready to:

- Connect the running/turn-hazard/brake lights on the tour pak
- Add Gerbing heated clothing controllers for rider and passenger
- Add LED running/turn/brake lights

All extra running/turn/stop lights will be wired through the trailer isolation relays.

Time to start peaking under the Tupperware.

Worked up enough courage to remove the "H O N D A" branding from the front of the bike today. Thought the paint might have faded which would leave a ghost image, but got lucky. Took a while and a bit of Plexus, but they came off cleanly with no ghosting or scratches.

Moved my pony tank from my VTX to the B.

No idea why the double images. Pain in the ass to do this from my phone.

Double images, what double images. You sure that is fuel and not beer? What double images?

That's a sweet looking rig there. What is the size? Looks like about 4-6 gallons. That should almost make your bike run nearly 500 miles. So cool.

Added my toll tag RFID to a $2 chip clip. Added some sticky neoprene to the clip jaws. She was tested this morning at 85MPH, she didn't budge. That's $10 bucks in mods in 2 days. Cheap bastard.

I think you're spot on about the size. I thought I read on the Ironbutt website that total fuel capacity is limited to 11 or 12 gallons; so 6.6 plus 4-6 would put him right at the mark.

The one that is supposed to secure them into the helmet lock.
Someone please explain how this is even remotely possible.

Run one end loop through each helmet D-ring. Next run the other end loop through the the first loop and synch the cable lightly. You'll have enough cable slack to place the end loop in the helmet lock:shhh:

You can get them for free.
It keeps us "children" safe by keeping our helmets secure until we need them.
The cables are supposedly secure enough for a firearm.
The cable has a nice plastic coating on it.

I fill them up independent of each other. I put a solenoid in between the 2 tanks that opens when I flip the fuel pump switch. Without it the pony tank would just gravity feed into the main tank and overfill it. I just wait for the fuel light to come on and then flip the switch. It takes about 5 min to transfer the contents and I don't have to stop to do it.

Fixed my non-functioning brake/tail lights.
Both my LED replacement bulbs had fallen out of their sockets after some bumpy riding. They were both just bouncing around inside the lens. The fitment of the LED's was loose to begin with, but I didn't think they'd ever fall out.
I electrical taped the LED bulbs firmly to their sockets.
I checked all other replacement LED's and they were all still tight in the other sockets.

I installed my Ram mount and XM radio on the bike as well as a set of handle bar risers, MBL I believe. Much more comfortable. Yesterday I rode over to the Ultimate seat outlet store in Ormond Beach to check out seats. The King was very comfortable but it raised me up .5 to and inch. I have a very short inseam, 30" and it took me off the ground more and I had to stand on my toes. The Midmount was good for my leg height but it moves me forward about an inch which was too far forward for my tall torso and long arms. The seat was beautifully crafted, fit nicely and had a beautiful red stripe around it that matched my red F6b. Russell, the tech there is very competent, patient, and good @ what he does.

Crank the rear preload up a bit and it will ride better. If it's all the way low then you are bottoming out. That's probably why it feels rough. Most of us set it halfway which is 17 clicks from the bottom.

Took the smaller of the rings and severed it and set it in the bottom of the gap. Took the larger ring and slid it over the Bar End Weight, covering the smaller ring. They are pricey, but they are built well too. The organizer is great for loose items so you are not digging around whenever the box is loaded. I'm going to leave mine on for awhile, the looks of my T-bag last week-end kind of bugged me as it sits really tall. It's great quality, I just don't like the look. Just figured out how to post on this site! Picked up my new 2013 F6B today in the Wisconsin rain. Go 35 miles in on the back roads on the way home. Went 3 miles without my helmet. Wow, the wind my gosh. I have to invest in a higher windshield. Looking for advice on that and several other issues. What is the best shield? Need a longer gear shift lever and maybe a 2 way one need advice on that. I had one on my last Yamaha 2008 1100 vstar. Started poring rain so headed home. Wow, this is an amazing bike. I can't believe I may be saying this but it may be too quiet. Got to my garage and realized the dealer did not install my license plate, it is on my old bike. Took my truck back to work. Pulled out the paperwork and I was told I was buying a $695.00 3 year extended warranty. After reading the contract it is some aftermarket warranty not the Honda extended 3 year plan. Pissed about it. Do I keep the contract tomorrow when I go to get my license plate or tell them to shove it. Thanks for any advice. LOVE my new bike.

Call Honda Corporate and talk to them about the warranty thing... I really don't know if it makes a difference

If you're talking about a heal-toe-shifter, I'd try to talk you out of that. I don't think they're good for the bike; our trannies are constant-mesh with square dogs (i.e not undercut) that get worn down over time. A heal-toe accelerates the wear IMO.

I will look into the Madstatd windshield where is the best place to order it? Read the blog about the heal toe shifter and understand I need some real riding boots instead of my black Walmart special steel toes. Went back to the dealer in the rain and they agreed to get me the Honda extended 3 year warranty for the same price as the aftermarket one that restricted me to go to them if my bike broke within 40 miles of them. They will be mailing me the new contract. They removed the license plate from the bike I traded and handed it to me and I installed it. I also wonder what else they did not do on the set up procedures from Honda. Is there anything I can check? Decided I could ride in the rain all day on this bike the faring keeps my pants almost dry, jacket is good, need a better modular helmet. Any suggestions? This is the most awesome machine I have ever been on. Thanks for your help.

Ordered my Clearview 15" light gray sport touring width shield last week. Picked up my Honda accessory backrest and brackets today. Also got my new Joe Rocket Phoenix Ion jacket. Finally riding somewhat protected.
Glad to hear you got the Honda contract. Most aftermarket warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on, I'm an automotive service advisor, I deal with them regularly.

I don't think Madstad has a big distributor network, if any at all. Best place to get one is direct from them.

Whatever boots you get, I'd suggest getting a pair that provides good "feedback" from the shifter to your foot. A pair that is heavy-weight enough to provide the protection you want, but light-weight enough for your foot to still feel each click. If you want avoid issues that many people experience like ghost shifts and false neutrals, I'd start paying attention now to your shift technique and practice constantly for many thousands of miles.

Not sure if you've seen this: http://hondaf6b.com/showthread.php?5644-This-Bike-Needs-a-SKILLED-Operator&highlight=skilled+operator

How many miles on your bike? Have you seen the recommendation from Honda to leave the factory fill in the rear end for a prescribed number of miles? I think it's 20,000 or so.

Bike has about 11,500 miles and this is the second rear end change.First was at about 500 miles because I had read on the Goldwing site that a lot of Goldwings were sent of to there new owners with the rear end low on fluid. So I checked mine and it was very low-Great Honda techs at my dealership never checked it so I drained what was in there and refilled with Honda brand fluid. Now I went with Amsoil severe gear as in my Dodge cummins it has served the diffs well and has 50-100k intervals. That truck has 200+K on it with no problems-Also run Amsoil in the engine at 25k intervals. As far as this special Moly in the bike new I call bunk. It's gears spinning and any good synthetic fluid will give you years of sevice.Funny thing is I already have a brand new F6B rear end in the box from a trike take off that I got on E Bay for 90.00.So if this rear end grenades I'm set for a quick change out.Only time will tell if I have done the wrong thing here but a lot of 1800's have gone 100k+ and they changed there rear end early and more often too.

I'd be interested in knowing the components you used in doing that. Also, which radar detector model are you using? Thanks!

I have an Escort Solo 3. It runs on batteries so I don't need seperate power. I have it mounted on a Ram mount on my right handlebar. The speaker is also an Escort product around 30 bucks. It needs power so I used the wiring that came with it to connect to a switched wire from the battery. Then ran the aux connection to the handlebar through the wire channel and it just plugs into the detector. I rode with it yesterday and today and I can hear the brap of the detector even with the radio on at a high volume going 90. I wear a half helmet so I'm not sure the noise would be the same with a full or modular helmet.

Thanks for the details! Before your original post, I was not aware that Escort offered a powered external speaker. This seems to be a good solution for me as well and have ordered the speaker. Thanks again for the good suggestion .

Since 1994 I have driven over 1,200,000 miles between cars and bikes. I have used escort for every mile and used every escort product there is. Whether it's telling me there is a cop in the median with his lights off and radar on at midnight ( like Saturday coming home from the Lightning loss) or west Texas goin 110mph in an 80 zone, they have never failed me. There may be a better detector out there but Escort is the one for me and my relationship with the Florida DMV...

Congrats Nole. You could do that but I wouldn't rush it. Do it when you get home and take your time; this bike is chocked full of rubber grommets and stepped washers that are easy to lose... and it's not always clear when and where they're hidden. Take your time, and for every bolt or nut that gets loosened, take a real close look to see if any loose parts on on it. This bike is also notorious for having slightly different length bolts or bolt shoulders; if you rush you could easily lose track of where they go.

I'm at the point where I don't mess around; every nut and bolt that comes off... gets "stored" in the disassembled hole until the whole bike is put back together. This is the best way to not lose anything, and to not lose track of where it all goes.

EDIT: Oops, n/m! :icon_biggrin: Well done on the quick install.

Haha; this is almost as sensitive a topic as guns :icon_biggrin:

I'd agree that there are a few excellent detectors on the market now... but it wasn't always the case. Back in the 1980's detectors were pretty much all crap and kiddie toys. Mike Valentine, who was an engineer with Escort at the time, had enough of that and struck out on his own. The end result was that he created the de-facto GOLD standard of radar detectors that stood head and shoulders above the rest for decades. Eventually Escort and the others decided they needed to get serious and they indeed began creating better products. However, were it not for Mike Valentine raising the bar with the Valentine1, there's a possibility that Escort et al would still be trying to sell us garbage.

Other than great perfomance, incredible longevity, and the locator arrows... this is why I'm a fan of Valentine. American ingenuity and entrepreneurship at it's finest... as opposed to Escort's philosophy of "sell them garbage for as long as they'll buy it"

Lol...I watched the video of the Goldwing windshield replacement on Youtube a few times in anticipation, so it was a breeze. The hardest part was fitting my fat fingers behind the mirrors to get the bolts started again when putting the front back on.

Didn't have time to do the lens covers at lunch...so those will be done when I get home after it cools off.

Added a 13" MadStad and took it for 150 mile highway 2-up test ride to try to dial it in.

I got a lot of air movement, but not as turbulent/harsh as with the 19" Slipstream. I didn't get any wind that wanted to suck the glasses out of my helmet. It seems to take the "edge" off, but is still breezy.

FWIW, the 13" MadStad all the way up and vertical is visually at the same height of the 19" Slipstream, but further away.

I will need more time in different wind conditions to know more. The wifey says she doesn't notice any difference with it. I was running it all the way up and settled in on a rake just a little past parallel to the base. Standing it up more was counter productive. I may end up going with a 15" for 2-up riding since the top shields are easy to swap out.

Removed the front and rear Honda emblems with heat gun and 3m adhesive remover. Damaged paint in front like several others have mentioned. Had time to wash her before riding to work. Piss poor paint in my estimation by the swirling had not time to wax yet. Rode it to a friend who owns several bikes and a auto repair shop. Threw him the keys. He came back in 20 minutes and said that is the most awesome thing I have ever been on. It is so comfortable I could ride 500 miles a day on it. He was impressed. Went to Bike night at Quaker Steak and Lube in Madison, WI. Parked next to Hogs on both sides. They were over oggliing over my bike. One 60'sish Harley dude said he liked my F6B and he would consider a Honda like that. It was the only F6b I saw tonight about 300 bikes there. Rode home and putter away until tomorrow. Turned over 400 miles today picked it up last Friday. It is the best purchase I have ever made. Makes me smile every time I ride her. Just a few modifications to do 1st on the list is a real windshield.

Try talking about the Australian throttle control company... --------. We're in the middle of a big censorship!

Censoring discussion about a great product hurts the individual members more than that vendor. Rather than preventing us from talking about them, we should simply prevent them, the company, from promoting their own products here... which they don't.

If INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS wish to discuss the product, we should be allowed to do so. Why are WE being PUNISHED for actions that are outside of our control?

I think John's on a trip to Connecticut, not sure if he'll reply soon but I don't know either; I too thought the 16 was their biggest.

Hmm. Don't remember say 19" but I did say Clearview tall. Measuring from front cowl to top of recurve is 16". This takes the wind over my helmet. I start my trip Thursday after work.

Changed oil and filter today. 3rd change, Rotella T6 and a K&N filter. Ready for the trip minus packing and go pro position.

Last week I was changing the oil and when I went to remove the front portion of my black Show Chrome belly pan low and behold the right screw was ripped out of it and that section was bent pretty bad.I must of clipped a curb or sumthin and that pan took the brunt of the hit.Couldn't really repair it as the back portion was ripped where the bolt went in so I ordered the Macgyvor pan and installed it today.Really nice pan and stout but somewhat of a pain to get in place but after a little fighten her in all is well and protected again.Plus the week I rode without a pan I can say the crosswinds did effect me a lot more and today she felt much better with a new pan in place IMHO.Big thumbs up for the Macgyvor product.

The Macgyvor pan is very tuff.... get a kick out of the guys who don't want or use one...cheap insurance !!!

Had a new front tire put on; stock lasted 15,000 miles. I should do the math on how much I'll save versus the usual 5,000-7,000 miles I've gotten on other bikes. Hell, I only got about 3,500 on the original rear one 2011 Multi.

Drove to ND to pick up my Rush mufflers.
I got both the 2.0" and 2.25" baffles, just in case.
Install early this week. I'll take some stock vs Rush video and post on youtube.
I saved about $100 in taxes, and another $400 over the Canadian cost of the mufflers,
and I don't feel guilty in the least.
It was worth spending $25 in gas money and 3 hours of my time to save $500.

Received and added a 15" MadStad replacement shield (with rounded bottom with no "MADSTAD" branding). The original 13" shield had the wrong hole patterns drilled in it so MadStad told me to drill 2 extra holes in it, run it and get back to them.

I noticed the 15" MadStad works better all the way down than what the 13" did all the way up.

The wife seems to be satisfied with the passenger's wind performance of the 15" (all they way up).

Do you have any pictures of the Ergo pegs installed?

They look pretty much like this installed.

When you step on them, the go down a couple of inches and spring back when you take your feet off. The 2nd/chrome picture depicts a ghost of the down position.

I chose these because the Rivco Aero pegs were too high for me (read: birthing chair) and when I found out if the bike tips over with them out, it causes an oil slick. I love the Aero look, but would not be comfortable for me.

The spring loaded feature of the Ergo 3 pegs is a mini version of the MICK-O-Pegs.

There is also a couple peg options for the Ergo 3's.
