Saw yesterday on the Internet Honda is recalling over 126,000 Goldwings from 2001-2010 and 2012 models for rear brake issues...No mention of the 2013 or later models..Just curious if this recall will affect the F6B or later model GW's....Anyone know or hear anything, other than what Honda has said??...I suppose if later models are included, Ma Honda will notify the owners.....

If you are referring to the recall from December 2011 (old recall) .... It's not going to effect the 2013's or 2014's

I have yet to take my Goldwing in for this recall, I don't have any issues with my brakes.

If you look at the Honda recall page, this seems to be an older recall, they just added (some of) the 2012 models to the recall, nothing on the 2013 or 2014 models though.

I look there once a week or so just to see when they decide to recall my paint job!

So the Original Recall didn't appear to resolve the issue :icon_doh:

It's a follow-up recall :banghead:

This is a second recall, for apparently the same problem.

It affects the years mentioned and is only for GL1800 and GL1800A, since, of course, GL1800B (F6B) didn't arrive on the scene until 2013.

They may have detirmined another manner of diagnosis.

There are 2nd hand reports of the issue being seen on later models (2014)

One surefire fix would be to remove the crosslinking of the brakes... but that would be too embarrassing for Honda.

Personally that would suck. I love the linked brakes. My B has the best brakes of any big bike I know. I hardly ever have to touch the foot brake.

George - may you provide a link to these new reports? I searched yesterday and did not see anything for '13 or '14.
Thanks,
Steve

Removing the linked braking will be something I really, really would not want to do. The braking of the F6B is something I absolutely love.

If I could, I would remove the linked braking in a second. I like total control over which brake I apply and how much I apply it. Low speed U-turns in second gear are much easier when you don't have to worry about the front brake being applied by Mother Honda when you tap the rear brake.

If you Google the recall you'll find articles written about it and some of those have commenting sections; in some of those sections you'll find people talking about having the issue on later models.

Would anecdotal have been a better descriptor? I meant to convey that I don't have anything solid, I just see stray comments here and there.

That's a good point but the linking is not really that intrusive on my bike; I can feather the rear brake in parking lots with no trouble at all from the front brakes.

I agree, no problem at all just using the rear when making tight turns. I play with the friction zone and she turns on a dime.

I agree there are many times when I wish I could just apply a little rear brake, without the front, I hate the linked brakes and would be rid of them in a second.

It's not that I can't modulate my rear brake. My concern is if I apply too much rear brake, then I have to contend with unwanted front braking.
