I was still in High School and riding a KZ400, BUT eventually owned 6 different GL1000s.
All but a 1977. 75, 76, three 78s and still now have 78 and 79 along with a Valkyrie and F6B.
Yeah I'm kind of addicted to the old Wings.

I was at Anderson's Honda in Bloomfield Hills, MI purchasing the exact same bike as posted on this thread...Second one in the area to own it and rode it for a year or so...If I remember it was a nice bike but to heavy for me?? ..Traded it for a Yellow Super Sport Honda 750 which I liked much better....I was 35, married with three kids working for Ford Motor...The rest is history....Almost 40 years later, 5 kids, and 16 Grandkids...Where did the time go???? Now at almost 75, I am riding an F6B which I am sure is heavier than the 75 model...Go figure!!!

Junior in high school. The next year I bought a new CB750. Man that was a great bike. Over the next two years I put a 4 into 1 header on it , rejetted the carbs , and put a single K&N on top of each carb. Also went with a bigger chain and sprockets for durability and changed the gearing to help in the eighth mile. She was a runner.

By 1975, I had been working for 8 years with Duke Power Co., had 2 sons (ages 2 & 4), and was racing dirt bikes (Bultaco and later Maico). At the power company, we had some pretty cool guys working as linemen. Very often, these characters were adventurous and real characters. I'll never forget first talking to one of those guys who was the best motorcycle racer around. When I asked him about the best way to learn about riding, he simply replied, "start racing, you'll learn real fast". Well, I did that and he was right, I learned real fast but it was pretty painful along the way. Those were good days :icon_cool:.

I was a sophomore in high school. I was fascinated by a friend's moped, but it would be five more years before I bought my first bike, a Honda 360CL. That little bike took me all over the back roads of Teton County, Wyo., where I worked in the summers (and where I bought the bike) and back and forth from my home in Connecticut and college in Rhode Island. Unfortunately, once a I graduated and got married, the bike got sold.

Working on post graduate studies and compulsively riding. I sold everything I owned and traded in my BMW R75/5 which had over 120,000 miles for a new smoke R90S. Unfortunately, I only got 28 miles on the R90S when a drunk driver came out of a one way alley going the wrong way and I center punched her. I hit her so hard the bike stuck in the side of her car which was an old heap. I flew and flipped landing on my backside. The good news was I had full leathers on with gloves. I didn't walk away but I was ok. The bike was terrible and what wasn't wrecked was finished off by the towing company when they wrapped chains around the bike and let it swing around smashing into the back off the tow truck all the way to the impound lot. The bike was totaled and I bought it back from the insurance company and repaired it with new parts throughout. I rode it 119,000+ miles before selling it. Anecdotally, I heard that the bike ended up with around 350,000 on it, which I can't prove, but like to believe is true. Like others, I continued to ride while living the middle class mundane existence of wife, kids and career. Oh yeh, I seemed to have changed wives somewhere in there, all for the better and even more riding.

Wow, so many great memories, am I right? You all had me laughing. This thread turned out far better than I could have imagined!

I remember I was racing motocross as a teenager and when I saw the first GL1000 the first thing I said was, "Look at the size of that engine!" As big as it seemed to me then, I look at it now and realize how much smaller it is than the current Goldwing. That was the beginning of a legend and at the time I didn't even realize it. Good times...keep riding and making more memories :)

We had just moved to the Baltimore area. My Dad's business partner was one of the first in Maryland to own a 1975 GL1000. It was an aqua-marine color. I couldn't wait to see that bike! To me, it was like seeing a UFO at Area 51.

Flash forward 25 years. A friend of mine had a bike he was selling for a friend. I went to take a look. It was an aqua-marine 1975 GL1000 with a Windjammer fairing (remember those?) It had all of 15,000 miles on it, but hadn't been ridden in years. The carbs were all gunked up, and it needed all new rubber - tires, shock seals, the works. He wanted $1000 for it. I passed.

I've kicked myself ever since.

Memorable moment was kicking up dust coming down a red dirt road to be greeted by a Bush Python (2nd to the Anaconda) crossing the road. It's head was somewhere in the bush to the left and it's tail was somewhere in the bush to the right. I gave way to it.

The following day a crocodile ate a dog at one of the close by settlements.

Well, in 1975 I was 10 years old. My best friend at the time (Jeff) lived across the street and he had three older sisters. They had a mini bike, not exactly sure but it must have been a Z50 Honda, I remember yellow with chrome fenders and it had a transmission.
Jeff's one sister Jan, a beautiful long haired brunette, probably about 16 at the time, use to put me on the back and take me for rides around the yard. I would hold on tightly around her waist as her long hair would fly up in my face. Didn't know really know why at the time, but I loved every second of it..!
Looking back, that was probably the start of my two biggest passions.

I didn't get into motorcycling until 2010, though I did ride dirt bikes as a kid. I have been on snowmobiles since 1998, rolling up 35,000 miles on the white stuff on six different sleds during that time.

I would have been 8 years old and playing "pop warner" football right now. Not a care in the world!

Just finished a 2 year Votec program for welding. Just moved out of my parents house, "as long as you live in this house you'll not have a motorcycle". Girlfriend/ wife liked motorcycles so I bought a used 500cc 4 cylinder Honda. We were living in a apartment with only on street parking so the bike was kept in her moms garage.

Started riding a Honda trail 90 in 1967 at 14. Then had a 450, 500 & by the time the first Goldwing came out I had 2 kids and was doing my best to take care of them by myself. Just a few years later I bought a 1976 Goldwing & ran across a deal on that original 1975. So I had 2 Goldwings at the same time for a few months.
