This is more of a winter thing but interesting none the less...

The Ohio Valley... 39* rode into work the long way, light jacket, visor up on my modular.

(I did have my baggershield UP tho)

Riding to the dealership yesterday to get the last of my $1,000 worth of toys, it was 46. Last Saturday when I headed down the I-25 to Denver, I think it was 43. As I've said elsewhere, I'm really a minimal shield guy -- was sad that the stock shield didn't do it for me. But now I'm thinking I might have to get a "winter" shield if I'm going to continue riding instead of putting the bike away as I normally do.

Does sitting on it in the warm garage count?

+1C (34F) with a northwest wind blowing at 40 kph (25 mph), so I didn't quite feel like going for a ride at 8 am.

Right now it's a balmy 6C (42F) with the wind now blowing at 50 kph (30 mph). Still unmotivated to ride, even if I do own an F6B.

31 degrees, later warmed to 39. Aerostich Roadcrafter suit, Schuberth C3 helmet, heavy gauntlet gloves and combat touring boots. I'm getting old so it is too cold. Forty years ago with crappy clothes I wouldn't have cared but I can't hack it for long nowdays. Bike liked it, purred like kitten inhaling that nice cold air.

Just returned from a solo trip from last Sunday to this past Friday, rode from Boerne, TX. to KnoxVille, TN. Then while there rode two days on the Blue Ridge Parkway, The Tail Of The Dragon, The Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner 28, 500 miles in two days. Great rides all. Weather was Beautiful until Thurs when the high and low met in Brinkley Arkansas, and I got caught in a tornado, had to seek shelter under a bridge, I did not think the bike would survive, but it did, completely untouched. Got a room for the night and got back to home, 20 miles west of San Antonio, TX on late Friday. The weather was hot, wet, dry, cold, windy, windier, and driving rain as I went from state to state. Bike was absolutely fantastic.Got her all cleaned up today, she sure was a mess at trips end. Met some other F6B's in the Smoky Mtn's. A Red and a Black

Left the house at 7:30 this fine Sunday morning to the temperature of 76 degrees (Southern California).
It was 84 when I left the meeting.
Went to play, and it quickly got up to 104. When I left to come home, I had a wet vest on, and a cooler neck thing. Made it 3/4 the way home before the vest was DRY.

Arid country = dry heat. So 104 was bearable when moving. Not so much at a light. HOWEVER, the water cooled F6B beats ANY machine that isn't on a day like today!!

Just about everyone of them had wired for heat jackets and mine is leather. Had coffee and conversation with a couple guys before they headed out and told them I'd be back next time. Rode into Franklin then back to home for about a chilly 70 mile ride. I did pick up a new Transitions face shield Dark when you need it, . for my Bell helmet that makes the ride so much nicer. I ran 87 octane for the first 2 months I owned my 'B, and then 91 octane for the last month before putting the bike away for the winter. Our 91 octane has no ethanol. I could not tell any difference between the two, and the 91 didn't have any effect on the cold start stumble either.

Just curious if you see any performance difference running 91 octane versus the 87 octane that is recommended in the owners manual.
Thanks,
X

Short answer: no.

Slightly longer answer:
All of our fuels in Philly have the "up to 10% ethanol" label on them and I am not ready to do what my neighbor MadMax is doing and removing that from the mix. Yet.
Just like any entity, I think varying the diet is a good thing - make the system work under slightly different parameters.
Performance difference? Nope. She still goes like a scalded cat no matter what grade I use.

She does get some Sea Foam every 4th tankful just to keep everything clean and happy.
If I know I'll be on a highway at constant higher RPMs, I'll use the highest grade octane I can for a tankful - again to keep the system clean and running optimally under different operating parameters.
Fuel efficiency - for me - is more a function of "am I commuting?" (which is 12 miles of 20, 25 & 35 mph roads with 47 stoplights) or "am I not commuting?"

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah - it was 37 degrees yesterday during my commute.

FWIW: The oversized Kury grip covers do shield a lot of the handgrip heat. I need to keep it on max to be effective.

Hopefully drying out today. Weekend ride? Hope so.

It was foggy, dark and dreary in SE Wisconsin this afternoon-- BUT it was also 47 degrees and there is no snow on the ground, and that doesn't happen often during our winters. Had to get out for a couple of hours. Any December ride in Wisconsin is a good ride... smiled all the way!

A balmy 45F around 2pm today in western NC. Had not had a chance to ride in a few weeks and just decided to bundle up and get in an hour+ of riding. The bikes fairing does a great job of blocking the wind and with a full face helmet and some warm clothes, gloves and coat the ride is actually enjoyable. Never would have enjoyed the Harley at these temps.
