Glad to see all that high dollar protective gear doing it's job protecting the riders. There must be body armour built into the T Shirts. Love the German half helmet. Almost betcha it ain't DOT rated.:nono:

No surprise that a sportster won the race. The surprise is all the idiots with large cruiser type Harleys in that race.
Sportster type Harleys have been winning dirt track races for many years. The XR-750 is a great bike.

"Riders on XR-750s have won 29 of the 37 AMA Grand National Championships from 1972 to 2008 inclusive. Besides having more wins than any other bike in AMA racing, it has been called the "most successful race bike of all time", and has a claim to have more wins than any other racing motorcycle in history."

Crazy.
It looked like racing on dirt was completely foreign to some of those riders, a few of whom were messing up some nice-looking bikes that really shouldn't have been on a dirt track in the first place.
Maybe this is something that seems like a fun idea in between when you have a couple of beers and when you crash into the wall. :icon_wink:

My cousin Ronnie Jones, ran the Camel Pro Series for years. 1st place wins at Daytona, Springfield, and too many others to list. Rode Honda's and later HD's. He was a member of what they called the Class of 79. I followed him and met and watched all the greats he rode against, Scott Parker, Chris Carr, Jay Springsteen, Bubba Shobert, and many others. His little brother also rode, but was tragically killed in Louisville when a drunk jumped out on the track and my cousin David could not avoid him. Here's just one of the stories about Ronnie during his riding career.

And the Racers Memorial Page for cousin David.

Interesting stuff.
Nice write-up on Ronnie.
Terrible tragedy regarding your cousin Dave.
Thanks for sharing some of the family legacy with us.
