I can see the launch from my back yard about 5 miles from Kennedy Space Center. Very cool indeed. SpaceX will figure this out. NASA is going forward with the Orion program: Manned mission to Mars.

Here is the previous launch. I was en route from Bermuda to Newark at 36,000ft. Sorry picture isn't great, but it was a spectacular sight.
