Hey All

Got to fitting my new Vstream special edition windscreen today along with the Ultimate seat. I ordered my Utimate seat in all black as I was not a fan of the carbon fibre look.
Having come from the Clearview medium windscreen, the Vstream is the first windshield I have ever looked through and not over, and I must say it offers fantastic protection from the elements with no helmet buffeting to speak of. It lets just enough air around to cool the body and if you need more then open the vent.
In fact I reckon the screen works at it's best when the vent is in the first or second position directing some air up the inside of the shield.

The screen could easily be lowered another 2-1/2 to 3 inches if you would like to see over it. You would just drill 3 holes using the oem shield as a template.
The screen measures 21 inches from the Goldwing emblem where the Clearview medium measured 18 inches, using the slots in the windscreen you could raise it to 22-1/2 inches which is about as high as it would go. Set at 21 inches the air flow passes a good 4 inches over the top of my helmet. The Vstream also slopes back towards the rider 2-3 inches more than the Clearview, which I think also helps with the wind protection.

I havn't had a lot of time in the seat but I can tell you it measures about an inch higher than the original oem seat. the funny thing is you do not feel the extra height as It is narrow at the front compared to the oem and allows you legs a straighter path to the ground and not push them apart like the oem seat. I am 5-10 with a 30" inseam and it feels fine.

Heres a few photos.

Looks very sharp!
I've decided I need an Ultimate seat with a Corbin Smuggler like trunk that is a few more inches deep and just slightly wider so it can actually hold something as large as a computer bag.

I like the looks of it and it is tall. I think I want a taller windshield this time. National Cycle lists them for just Goldwing GL1800. I'm wondering if they will fit the F6B.

They are made for the Goldwing but also fit the F6b with little effort. You just don't have the adjustability up and down like the Goldwing.

Fantastic pictures Nox. Especially of the Mid rider seat. I am still agonizing over which one to order/try first.

Now if someone of the forum can post the same numerous; multi-angled pictures of their ultimate King seat; it would be a huge help to me (and others as well). :icon_wink:

I have had the Vstream on a previous motorcycle (DL850) and it does work well... is is a lot less uglier than the Madstat... that's for sure. I do wish that I had bought the Clearview large as Fla_rider had recommended to me earlier; but I went with a medium instead. Since I am going to get one of the two Ultimate seat models; I am DEFINITELY going to need a larger windshield now... and I think that Nox's Vstream has just become a contender for my choice.

Nox... a couple of questions; if you don't mind:

1. That N20012A GL1800 Vstream windshield comes with the vent cutout; but without a vent installed. Which vent would match the shield better ...a smoked or clear vent?
2. Do you notice any excessive "flexing" of that taller Vstream at highway speeds?

Thanks!

Hello NOX...question to you and other Vstream owners. First your windshield and new seat looks great! My question: If the Vstream design works so good do you and others think it is worth the extra cost to buy the Vstream with the vent or not. With this design does it make that much or any difference? Ride safe!

Looks like VStream has come out with a thicker windshield (6.00mm) for this application. About $160.00 more though...

I put a Goldwing VStream on my F6B, all I had to do was drill new holes and it fit perfectly. NO CUTTING if you want full height. I used it for a 2500 mi trip in Oct and wanted max wind protection. It worked great.
You will defiantly want the vent. It is needed to break the vacuum created by the big shield and help move air around behind the shield.

It also brings in cool air and can be directed to your face or chest.

Thanks DMAGOLDRDR, I think Nox fell of the face of the earth... regarding our questions posed to him.

Can you clean that screen with Plexus per chance? Or will it damage it? I don't see anything on the N/C site that forbids it... but am not sure if Plexus would be harmful to the polycarbonate.

Also, how much "flex" do you have at high speed? Would the new 6mm shield that they are offering be a waste of money; if the any flex you perceive is actually minimal?

I use Plexus on all my shields and saw no issues BUT I only had the VStream on for the one trip to Daytona last October and although cleaned the shield 3 or 4 times on the trip I couldn't speak for extended use.

As for flex, the entire trip down and back was a 75 - 80 mph highway run and I saw no flex to speak of, but I never really gave it much thought. I would think if it was extreme it would have caught my attention as it was a very tall shield and I have a Mustang seat so I was looking thru the shield down 3 or 4 inches from the top. Once back from the trip I removed the VStream and put my short Madstad back on.

As I read back over my responses I don't think I was much help with your questions. sorry... I will say the VStream did a great job of keeping me protected from wind, rain and noise which is just what I wanted for my trip.

As much as people have testified about the functionality of the Madstad windshield; I just cannot pull the trigger on it. It's just too ugly for our F6B's IMHO... takes away the sleekness and disturbs the frontal lines of the bike :icon_frown:

I went ahead and ordered the Gold Wing Vstream windshield. A little sleeker; a little more along the lines of the bike; and taller with some seemingly better protection than the Clear View medium Recurve I currently have installed.

Will report back in this thread what I think of it. From the comments I have seen so far; I think I am going to like it

Well... crap.

:icon_frown:

Tried to install the new Vstream G\W windshield today; but the F6B's OEM windshield mounting screws/washers/rubber is not wide enough to get a confident grip on the windshield mounting slots; since the slot's in the VStream windshield are wider; as compared to the current Clearview that I have on it.

If you take a look at DMAGOLDRDR's post above (#12) in his 2nd attachment; you can see if the photo how the stock F6B's windshield mounting hardware barely grabs the edges of the slots in the Vstream windshield.

I'm going to need to order the Honda Goldwing windshield mounting hardware (for the slots) to do this right. Or maybe see if I can source a large washer/flange bolt from Home Despot or Lowes...

Darn,,,, I am sorry I never mentioned the difference because I drilled new holes when I mounted mine. I only put the VStream in place to take measurements as to where I would drill and reference the difference.

You may want to find three small spacers to fit the shoulder part of the bolt to keep the shield snug side to side in the wider slots.

Yes, that is what I also plan to do. It is not hard to re-engineer the mounting solution for this Vstream windshield. It's elementary. I know what needs to be done but...

...finding the right aftermarket components (off of the shelf) to make it happen is a bitch sometimes. :banghead:

Hey DMAGOLDRDR (and nox... if you are around),

Was dry fitting the VStream shield this morning in order to finalize exactly what fastener enhancements I needed to source. I noticed on each side; that there is a slight gap on the front of the V Stream windshield where it meets the rubber strip that contacts the front top of the windshield:

http://i67.tinypic.com/24lju3r.jpg

Do you and/or did you have this same gap? It looks huge in the picture but is actually slight. Seems that I could use a double sided tape to keep the rubber affixed against the windshield. Maybe. Possibly. Doesn't take much effort to push the rubber seal against the windshield....

I do like the windshield though... talk about a "barn door" sailing down the highway.... :icon_mrgreen: this thing is pretty awesome. :icon_cool:

Well got 're done and now buttoned up. Used all 5 bolt down points to hold the V Stream shield. Measures about 21.5" from the Honda emblem on the console.

Going to take her out for a launch a little later; to see the wind dispersion effect.

So just got done with a quick "speed test" of the G/W VStream Windshield on my F6B. Here are my observations:

1. There is definitely flexing of the upper outer corners of the windshield at high speed. 60-70 mph and I see both upper outer corners infrequently/sporadically flexing at least an inch.
2. Much less "helmet buffeting" as compared to my Clear View medium Recurve at speed; but slight "helmet buffeting" is still felt at 60-70 mph+
3. I seem to feel slightly more turbulence behind me than with the Clear View. Not irritating but noticeable. Even opening the air vent does not really dissipate it.
4. There is less side turbulence (left and right) that I am sensing' maybe due to the VStream's "funneling of air" away from the rider.
5. Visibility through the VStream windshield is excellent. No distortion. I am 5'10" and am looking through this windshield at about an inch or more from the top edge.
6. The Vstream windshield (as I have it mounted @ 21.5") comes more into the cockpit, so be aware when mounting/dismounting the bike; less you make contact with it.

I'm going top leave it on for awhile and continue to evaluate it.

I still am getting the Ultimate King seat so further evaluation of this shield is required. Am not displeased with it at this point. Just more curious about it's sensed protection (to me) and wind management. I need to try this thing in the rain as well.
