View Full Version : LED Rectangular Lower Fog Light Kit Update

We have a very large order of these LED Rectangular Lower Fog Light Kits (http://store.valueaccessories.net/LEDRectangularLowerFogLightKitGL1800GoldWing12.asp x) coming to us right now from the initial shipment from Show Chrome. They will shipped out to our customers from us the middle of next week.

We started taking orders in December as everyone knows. The initial offering along with a discounted price was quite impressive, a lot of interest and pre-orders.
We got all we could from the first shipment Show Chrome got in plus a few extra that they took because we had promoted these on this forum.
We have enough at this moment coming to us to fill all orders that were placed up to 2/8/15, which is a lot. After that another shipment will be in to Show Chrome on approximately 3/23 which they still owe us a large quantity of these light kits.

We were hoping to get enough for everyone on this first round, but they did not get enough for us to do that.
Everyone that ordered after 2/8/15 will get theirs in a few weeks. Looking at all of the orders it appears that this will only effect a couple of people from this Forum here.
If anyone thinks they may want a set of these led lights, order a set and get your name on them so you are guaranteed delivery soon.
Hope this update helps.
Rick

We have told everyone that the lights were shipped out a couple days ago to us and we would have them first of the week. I have also stated that to everyone on the phone that has called. All that we are getting in right now will all be shipping out to everyone at the same time.
We will have them in Monday or Tuesday and will ship out as soon as we get them in.

Don't forget that the fogs are lower and their beam is not pointed directly at the camera. That is likely why the switchbacks look brighter.

Lights arrived this afternoon, watched the install video that Steve had posted and headed to the garage. The install was pretty simple and fairly quick. The instructions that come with the lights are actually well written and easy to follow. The only portion of the install that i have yet to complete is the adjustment, i want to wait til dark and make the adjustments then before i install the cowling. About 2 hours into the install at this point.....:clap2:

I ended up leaving mine with the stock adjustment. I had the lights on with the stock setting last night and they seemed like they were going to be fine as they were set from factory. They are a nice addition to the HIDS and socalswitchback turnsignals i had previously installed.

I got my Show Chrome LED rectangular fog lights from Value Accessories on Friday. Installed them today. Installation was pretty straight forward and the instructions pretty clear. It took me a couple hours, start to finish. It's the first time I've gotten into the innards of the fairing.

I'm pretty happy with the fit and finish. I'll know more about how they perform after a few evening rides... but I expect they'll be fine. I really got them more for daytime running lights.

Here are a couple of pics.

Question. When installing these plug and play lights do they stay on all the time or is there a manual switch?

srt8-in-largo

I'm fairly certain that the OEM connectors most people use are tied into the fog light switch circuit... so if you use these connectors, you need the switch.

Bad- is correct, the kit from Ricky at Value Accessories ( our sponsor) comes with a lighted switch which goes at the bottom of the radio section. The kit is complete, plug and play once you figure out the lower cowl upper section goes behind everything else not between.:banghead:

Update on my experience. Recieved my second light in short order and did a quick trouble shoot on everything. a) yes the first one was bad, (one of the two lites in the fixture was still bad). b) checked that the other lite was working fine, and then hooked it up to the right side wiring harness, worked fine. c) checked the new lite on both sides, worked fine. d) installed the new lite and put everthing back together, still worked fine. e) took a ride and the replacement lite failed the same way as the first.

Talked to the folks at Value-Accessories and they said that they had a few other failures on the right side similar to me. They are taking care of things, sending me a new back to replace the faulty replacement. Should be here in a few days. I will let ya'll know how that goes, shouldn't be a problem, just a pain to have to do three installs to get a working set. I'm not upset, it's just my luck that I would get two of the bad ones out of the batch.

My impressions of the lights are as follows.
1) They certainly increase visibility to the cagers in daylight
2) They look great on the bike
3) Install was straightforward, not difficult at all, with clear instructions, and normal tupperware issues.
4) Hardware seems to be of high quality, except for my issue, that according to the folks at Value Accessories is not widespread
5) The lights do not seem to increase the night time visibility from the pilots seat very much with the stock headlights. At this point I have not tried to adjust the fogs from the settings that they came with. It is possible that they are aimed too high and just get lost in the stock headlight pattern and color. Once I get a complete working set I will play a little and see if it makes a difference. But at this point I was hoping for a little more.

Traditionally, fogs serve a different purpose than driving lights; they're meant to have a wide throw to be used for low speed driving in inclement weather. Bulbs are different, reflector design is different; if you look at some fog bulbs they even have an opaque cap on the end of the bulb which limits the forward throw.

I wouldn't expect these to overpower the headlights, but they should supplement road coverage; headlights will light up the road long and forward of the bike, these should light up the road short and sideways of the bike... in addition to providing better noticeability in the daytime.

Just adding perspective in case some are expecting these to be driving lights.

My view on the LED Rectangular Lower Fog Light Kit
Awesome Fit!
Excellent Install.
I hooked up controlled by switch.
Having Dark tint 15" Madstad windshield.
Without fogs sight up to 5 to 7 feet in front of bike was nearly impossible to see at night.
With fogs brightens that and farther, was hoping for a wider spread being fogs. may try adjusting height some what, but they help. Just could be better. Will report foggy conditions that they should help a lot

We have had a couple of right side led light failures from the fairly large amount that we have sent out.

Show Chrome has had a few failures of the 400 that have been sold so far. They have done a lot of testing and have isolated the problem to the right side led light only. This is only on a very small amount of them. From testing it has shown that if yours are effected they will stop working almost immediately or within an hour or so. They do have a fix in the works that is very easy for anyone that has received these and encounters this problem. Again this is very isolated, about 3 to 4%.
If you do have questions give Brandon at Big Bike Parts a call at 800-826-2411.
Below is a portion of the correspondence with them.

"Big Bike PartsŪ has been troubleshooting with select dealers and customers that have experienced the right side of their new rectangular LED Fog lights, BBP # 52-906, dimming out after usage on some kits. Our research has identified a bad IC driver chip may be present in some units, which are causing this particular issue. Not all units are affected and we are in the process of identifying which production batches and IC driver chips maybe faulty so we can implement a permanent solution to replace those affected.

We are expecting a solution over the next several days, at which time we will produce the necessary replacement components and expedite delivery. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you or our customers, but are acting as quickly as possible to identify and correct this issue."

Finally got the replacement of the replacement of the replacement lights this past week. Installed again yesterday, Nascar pit crew would be proud. Everything seems to work. Got a personal phone call from Brandon at big bike parts today to ask about the lights and the install, he has been great. He said that the problem was very limited and surprising due to the fact that the parts and housing has been used for some time with no issues. He asked that I give him an update over the next month or so. I will update here if there are any more issues. I'm glad that the 6 no longer looks like an old lady that's missing teeth,

You are not going to have a problem. All of the new units are going to have a slightly different IC driver board. Because of this our shipment that was supposed to be here the first of June has now been pushed back to the end of June. Big Bike Parts does not want to take a chance on this happening again, so they made a change.
We have a lot of people waiting, all have been contacted as best as we could.
We also have people for the new Valkyrie purchasing these, evidently they work in those also.

I posted this from another thread a while back. I am not sure who you purchased your lights from, but everyone that had an issue that purchased from us has been taken care of. There is not a recall, if it was from the first batch and goes bad they will send you a new board, very easy fix. It was only on a small portion and all of the extra's that Big Bike Parts received from the initial shipment.
As stated below, give Brandon a call at Big Bike Parts.

Everyone that has these lights ordered from us right now will have them within 2 or 3 weeks.
There is a shipment coming in and Big Bike Parts contacted us to find out how many of our customers from this Forum are waiting right now. They are sending us enough to fill everyone's orders plus a few extra from this next shipment.

Everyone that has these lights ordered from us should have gotten updates stating they were shipped.
We started shipping them yesterday. We got enough to fill all back orders and then some.
Should have them in time for some of you to install before coming to Franklin.

Got my notice. Ironically, I had called the day before to see that my order was in order, had a lovely phone chat with Mrs. Rick w. Look forward to installing them next week AND I'll be, hopefully, showing them off NEXT year at Franklin.

I installed them and 4300 is too white (But they look good) to match any idea what color temp Will Match? Will 6000 HID's match?

Oooh, is this the Kelvin rating? I was looking over the ValueAccessories page and didn't see that rating. That'd be fine for me. Don't want cool white, (blue light special), 4300k is nice.
Was poo-pooing the cost, but then I priced just the switch and it started to look better. And all the other mounting parts! Damn, time and aggravation trying to rig stuff gets old, everything you need in one box sounds great.
Just got some of the badge rings and was sad to see there was 1 LED out, not worth sending back, seeing the issues seem to have been taken care of with these gets me that much closer to ordering.
Can't see from the pics, are there some heatsinks on these?

The Kelvin rating is 6000K, I just updated the product page. The rating was not available when we first put the information on the page. The lights do match the other LED's and HID's pretty well.
