View Full Version : One Year Since Prostate Cancer

Last March I had a radical prostatectomy, age 66. I had been suffering from BHP for several years, and my PSA was 4.5, my Gleason score was 6. After removal my prostate weighed 39 grams...big sucker...caused me symptoms for years. Was happy to get ride of it and the cancer. Last 2 PSA tests were .002. Doc said that this basically means "cancer free." Praise the Lord and modern medical treatment. Doc said to come back in a year for PSA.

I was able to ride 6 weeks following the surgery, had incontiency for 9 months, now some leakage if I wait too long or strain...but riding presents no issues. All other systems normal. The most agonizing part was the wearing of a catheter for two weeks at home following the surgery.

I am grateful for all the information I gleamed from this board....and especially Donnie and his blog.

Don't forget to keep an eye on that PSA test!

Mate had the radical opp 4 years ago for Prostate Cancer.
Had a score of 8
First bloody time I've scored really well, and didn't even try????
Had Incontinence for maybe 2 weeks after the tube was pulled out.
Rode the bike once with the bag on and went to a Rockabilly Dance the night after I got out of Hopspital?? with the bag on
Hmmmm and the Chicks were so friendly knowing I was recovering:icon_redface::icon_redface::icon_redfac e:
Now sometimes when I sneeze I'm like a woman????
If that prostate Cancer deal is the worse thing that can happen to me I'm on a winner:icon_cool:

Get some time up guys, I've just past 8 years since a radical, then radiation and now second round of hormones.
Gleeson score was 7.

I know it's still there somewhere, just wondering where it will turn up next.

Good to talk about it guys, but don't let it rule your life.

Terry, I still do the Long Ride (supporting the Prostate Cancer Assn), we have been to Darwin, Alice, Broken Hill, looks like the next one is going to be Margaret River in West Aust. If you are interested, drop me a line and i'll fill you in.

Mate went to one support group meeting and they all sucked??? All they done was moan and winge supported by their ladies
So basically want nothing to do with anything formal?????
yeah it sucks and the effects after the opp suck worse.
Whats worse is it s a bloody blood test that tells yah whats what and men would rather have a beer or watch sport than get a blood test????
My father had Cancer, my sister had Cancer, my uncle died from it, my cousin died from it????

But a ride to Margeret River mat be kool, its maybe 5000 kays from my place and if I keep the oceon on the left hand side and another 8000 kays I'll be home:icon_cool:

I had my prostate removed 4½ years ago. They say that most men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives but that old age or something else may get you first. I was one of the lucky ones that caught it early enough that it hadn't spread. The incontinence, the catheter, the bag and some erectile disfunction all suck big time but those are all in the past and it's great to be alive and healthy.
I can't stress enough how important it is for all men to get a PSA test done. It's a simple blood test that could save your life.

Glad to hear your doing well.As said by others here early detection is the best prevention. So get your PSA tested,Have your Doctor probe you once a year and if your over 50 get the camera looksy.Worst part of that is the night before.I lost a good friend to Prostate Cancer because he would not get these tests done and it was tough to see him linger and become half the man he was and die at a younger age then if it had been caught early.

I had a friend diagnosed with prostate cancer so my wife insisted I get tested. I did and bingo I won the prize.

I had it removed about 15 years ago and have been cancer free ever since. Not a big deal and well worth the effort.

They did throw me out of the hospital early. I would sneak in the restroom and smoke. Doc said that I was being released at the request of the nursing staff.

Now that AAA was another story, but I beat that sucker too.

Anyone care to volunteer their answer to the Big Question? :shhh:

Here's the deal: used da Vinci robotic nerve sparing procedure...all is as good as ever. One thing they don't tell you is that they have to sever the urethra and then reattach, thus your member shrinks a tad :yikes: It sure beats having cancer roaming around.

OK thanks, I appreciate that, and in all likelihood I guess I will have to face a TURP someday... :yikes: It's nice to know that these advanced procedures exist. Many still die from PC, even now.

I guarantee you they don't have these kinds of threads on the GSXR message board. .notworthy.

You are entitled to your opinion but I take offense to your bashing the USA posts.

I don't have the time nor energy to post 1000's of positive reasons why the USA is a great nation and why so many want to migrate here.

For one, we are a very generous population with great people as a whole. EVERY country has a bad apple or two.

This website and it's membership is a reflection for the most part of what a great nation we live in. More times then NOT it is our members from OUTSIDE of this country that have so many negative opinions based on ZERO experience of living here for an extended period of time to actually realize that their ill opinions are not so accurate.

I have lived abroad in several countries, never in Australia however I can say that I am PROUD of the USA even if it has a few flaws. I'm always glad to return home from my travels abroad.

Terry, I created this website for the benefit of ALL F6B enthusiasts with ZERO government assistance and even though this website may have a few flaws ... you have benefited from it ... free of charge thanks to American generosity. Not everything in the USA is so bad or negative as your above posts imply. I invite you to stay here for a couple of years, you may be pleasantly surprised. Hope to see you in Daytona when you do make it over, I'll buy the first round of drinks

Respectfully, Tony

American medical advancements have benefited millions of people around the Globe.
NOW back to the topic on hand, TnHeath ... Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary of being Cancer free :icon_cool::yes:

Not bashing USA Posts just those that are experts on nothing and offer services not needed.
I only know of America what the world knows????
What is publically known and what has been publically known since America has become more open with the circumstances it is in?????

If I have spoken out of turn and especially in relation to this forum I believe can be left open to interpretation, but your right and well stated

Trouble is my statements are accurate, and well researched supported by the best information available, and if they are perceived as negative and not truth and I am being chastised because I speak the truth, then so be it.

I know where I stand and I now stand outside of this Forum.
So good bye and I hope what you believe remains true?

Based on experience or just biased news reports that our enemies over sensationalize ? Everyone tries to tare down the King of the Hill.

Just like every country out there, we are NOT perfect but far better then 95% of the Glove.

You have not spoken out of turn, I personally take offense on posts that smear my country based on no experience, I am also entitled to my opinions based on actual truth.

Ahhhhh ..... research and information from the web or news media doesn't hold a candle to reality and someone actually experiencing life in the USA. All of that research may have been provided by the Al Gore Global Warming factory. I cannot judge Australia based on what I know about it's history and what I have read/studied. Some day, I would like to visit for at least a couple of months and experience Australian life.

I know where I stand and I now stand outside of this Forum.

I've invited you to visit for a period of time so that your inaccurate BELIEFS can be replaced by Experiences, Cheers.

 my responses are in RED
I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts on your actual experiences with the flat 6, reminds me of my first time with these Hondas and the big Grin is still there every time I throw a leg over the seat.
