HI All,

Been lurking here for over a year....last July I demoed a F6B...loved it but wasn't quite ready to part with my R1200Rt. I think I'm close to ready now...rode a 2015 F6B this week and I really like these bikes! Here's the question.....I'm seeing several 2013 models still for sale new at dealers within a couple of hundred miles from me. Looks like they could be had for 5 to 7 thousand less than a 2015. I'd really love the cruise control, but other than that, would I be missing much by buying a 2013 (new) instead of a 2015. I'm not sure of all the changes by model year...but 5 to 7 thousand seems like a lot for cruise control! My other option I guess would be wait until next summer when some of the 2015s have a lower price. Also, was there a problem with the black paint on past models?

Thanks,
ROB Ray

Buy the leftover and buy a aftermarket cruise and you will have enough money leftover to get the bike painted if you choose and still be 4k ahead

+1, there is an aftermarket company that makes a like factory cruise for $900.00 plus install.

If ya can live without the cruse then a $5K to $7K savings is hard to pass up, there is a great aftermarket cruse for a lot less if ya just have to have one. Color changes & cruse, that is about it. The big diff is between the Deluxe and the std. models. Deluxe model has passenger backrest, centerstand, self-canceling turn signals and heated grips the 2013 standard models don't and may be why you see such a low price sometimes on a 2013 standard model.

I disagree with Steve about cruise being over rated. But you can buy a lot of cruise for 6 grand.... I love my 13.............Dickie

Rob, while you're waiting for next year models hoping the 2015 goes down. You could be riding and having the time of your life with the best bike you have ever ridden!

Whichever model year of the F6b just be aware the suspension on the Honda vers the BMW is huge. The rear of the F6 holds up fairly well but the front end is a POS compaired to the RT. You are going to notice frost heaves in the road etc your BMW never knew were there. Don't get me wrong, I am not a BMW fanboy but several riders coming from BMW this is their major complaint.

One thing that should be mentioned is Honda is offering a $3500.00 rebate to the dealers to move the 2013 inventory. That's why there are so many good deals out there right now. I'm not sure how long that offer is going to last
Remember too your going to need a few extra dollars to add to any bike to make it truly yours. There are very few things that you can't add after market and you only have to add the thing you really want or need.
The motors the same, the wheels are the same, and the suspension is the same.

For 5-7 grand difference I would definitely go for the 13, If you have to have cruise you can get aftermarket cruise installed. Also shop around as much as you can, The local dealer wanted $3500 more than a dealer 120 miles away for the exact same bike and wouldn't even come down on the price after I showed them the other dealers website...

I would see what they would give you for your R1200RT and maybe put you into the price of a 13 for a loaded 15. Worth a shot, I have a 15 Deluxe with all the goodies and wouldn't trade it for anything without the stuff on it now.

I also have the same decision underway as the OP.

where did you find this info, & does it apply to Canadian Dealers? Does it apply to 2014 models as well?

My quandary, three nearby dealers all have one used 2013's in stock each, with 1800 km's, 3300km's, and 16,000 km's respectively. One dealer reports he has a new in the box 2014 as well, for $1K more than the used, which are all listed at $16K.

Any advice on Canadian dealers & pricing would be appreciated. PM me if you like.

Thanks,
C

I think there was a slight transmission difference after 2013 as well.

Seems to be some controversy of this...Many have said it was only a coating change on the 4th & 5th gears to "hopefully" stop the infamous ghost shifting some have experienced...I have no factual evidence of either, just what I have seen posted.....

I had to have the blue. I don't do black and there wasn't a red one for me to see. That and the cruise. I will chime in and say I think this bike doesn't deal with bumps that run across the road (tree root type) very well. I wonder if a front spring replacement would help. I definitely paid about $4000 more too. That was painful to swallow.

Hi Rob, save the money, go to Cycle Trader and get the lowest price you can find. Honda of Chattanoga has the lowest prices I've seen. Take that to your dealer and tell 'em you want a match. Freight, set up/dealer prep are tack ons on an older bike. Yes about the old paint, it's a pain, Especially black. If you want shiney, the older black models show scratches like crazy and you can see mixed reviews here about the red too for '13. The 15's in matt grey or blue, look awesome and I've heard no problems from owners. Also, the yellow '14s have no problems that I've read. There's at least 4 good manual cruise controls from $50-$200 out there, all you'll need and buy the deluxe, the standard is too lacking in basics. Good luck and wait till winter when the dealers get hungry for sales. Also while the 15's have those cool blacked out exhausts, earlier models have chrome pipes and I happen to like the look, but then I don't live near salt water.

I went with the matte silver because I liked it and wanted the cruise. Got tired of hand numbness from not having one. Get a lot of compliments on the color and really like this bike.

That's what I did...I didn't need another bike...but couldn't pass up the savings on a black 2013 F6B..but it's sitting in the garage since the temp tags expired.. We still enjoying the other bike for now (she likes the older bike more until I drop more money on this one)
