Got myself in a bit of a pickle, now having two nice seats but only needing one... which one?? I picked up a really nice new/used Corbin "dual tour" F6B seat this weekend even though I just purchased a Ultimate "King" seat. I rode both seats today for 5 hours each on exactly the same route and both are nice seat with each hiving it's good points and bad. I need to chose one and most likely sell one but it's hard to decide which one to keep. Both seats measure exactly the same as far as bar reach goes but the Ultimate is slightly taller. The Corbin is rock hard but that never seems to be an issue while riding, go figure? I think the Corbin wins the looks hands down as it really looks great on the bike. My wife likes the Corbin better because she sets a little lower and it gets her out of the wind blast a little better. The backrest is nice with the Corbin but that's a mute point because I didn't get the backrest with the Ultimate since I don't ride with one anyway. What do you guy's think???

Ultimate on the left..... Corbin on the right

I just purchased an Ultimate about a month ago and it has solved my seat problems. I can now ride all day and have no issues what so ever. I also had an Ultimate on my Valkyrie and it was perfect for me. That being said I also had a Corbin on a bike years ago and it was nice. My riding buddy has a Corbin on his NC700 and he can go all day with it. We too are amazed how rock hard the Corbin is but it works for him. Tough call, but I would choose the Ultimate.

I would add that I think the Ultimate looks better too. :icon_biggrin:

It's a no brainer in my book....

Wait a while, what's the rush, see how your rear feels after a real extended ride, function over looks, that's why I ride a RDL:).

I got to admit I like the looks of the ultimate better also. But if moma aint happy nobodys happy. So you may need to settle for the one that works for her. Al

I posted this in another post but after seeing the new Corbin F6B seat at street Vibrations last week I couldnt believe how much softer the Corbin foam is compared to me 6 yr old Corbin Rune seat..I asked Julio who built my seat years ago about the softer seats..He said they have a softer foam now but Im not sure if its standard or if you have to ask for it when ordering...I recommend driving into the factory and having your seat custom made with whatever leather you want at the same price as the internet ordered plain seat..The new F6B seat looks gorgeous and thinking about going to Hollister and having mine made...

The Corbin is hideous.

I second that sentiment.

The key to your post is how your wife feels on the Corbin. If your wife rides with you often she is going to want a backrest and Corbin wins hands down. The other suggestion about making your decision after a long ride. Put a 300 mile day in on each seat and then tell me how you feel. The Corbin works for me but seat are subjective. What works for me might not work for you.

Yeh I have plenty of time to ride both seats and most likely will spend some serious time on both. I'm also considering sending my stock seat to Russell this winter for a Daylong seat. I have always wanted one but the time frame to have one built has always kept me from ordering one but it was because I always needed it quickly.

Nope she has this,... added when needed. The bike came with one but she hated it.

That's what I have been hearing about the RDL's. This bike is a keeper so I have no qualms about spending for the Russell seat and during the winter the wait should be a no brainer.

All that stitching equals potential ways for water to get in the seat.

Honda F6B 3rd pic with lugage on the rack in black was mine, until some idiot cager totaled my F 5 weeks ago, but the seat was unharmed and so it is going to be mounted on my new 2015 Matte Silver one this week:)

Thought this article was an interesting read:

"... About half of the aftermarket saddles used in the 2011 Iron Butt Rally were made by Russell Cycle Products (www.day-long.com). Collectively, over 70% of the aftermarket saddles used in the IBR were built by either Russell, Rick Mayer (www.rickmayercycle.com), or Bill Mayer (www.billmayersaddles.com). All three of these products are produced in California and they share a common history. ..."

Been spending a lot of time on both seats and so far it looks like the Ultimate is going to be the keeper. I have two long rides this weekend and I'm going to try both seats, one on each day then one will be sold because I don't need three seats. The Corbin is a real nice seat but the problem for me is my height, the Corbin set's a little lower than the stock seat so I think it's for "short legged" people.

Does that Corbin move you any further from or closer to the bars? I could maybe tolerate a bit lower, but don't want my reach changed.

To me I would say no, the reach feels the same as the stock seat but as anybody would tell you seats are very subjective. Ft. Wayne is close so your more than welcome to try it out.

I know that buyers of used items can't be too picky, but I'm just not sure about the stitching pattern on your Corbin. I'll continue to look at it but if you manage to sell it to someone else, that's fine too. I've had Corbins, Ultimates, and RDL on other bikes, so I'm still thinking this out. Right now, the stock seat with an Air Hawk pad or Bead rider works pretty well.

The one I sat on definitely moved me forward. I felt like at least an inch if not more.

I live in horse country. I went to the local saddle store and they sold me Hydrophane. When you put it on the seat it completely treats AND waterproofs the seats and stitching. It rained on the bike for a day on the way home while it was on the trailer. It was puddling in the seat when I got home. I wiped the seat with a dry rag and it was completely dry. I have a Corbin on mine. Both my wife and I love it. I just did 900+ miles in the mountains a week ago and had no problem.

I bought the Corbin used so I would have to call Corbin with the "build number" to find out the specs but this one is geared towards a tall guy. I have now spent all day Saturday on the Corbin and almost all day sunday on the Ultimate and I think the keeper for me is going to be the Corbin! Sorry guy's but the Corbin would let me ride until I needed gas (200+ miles) and the Ultimate had some butt burn around 130 miles in. Every butt and every seat is different so results vary but I know what my butt likes. Looks like the Ultimate might be going up for sale.

do you have a link / source for that tailpack with backrest? How does it mount and open?

I built it, using a Kawasaki Nomad trunk kit. Here's the link but it's really EXPENSIVE to buy that trunk kit plus Kawasaki has now discontinued it.

Unfortunate my Ultimate Seat has the same problem. I have been thinking about calling Ultimate about the problem because the foam seems to be bottoming out and it feels like I am sitting on the pan after a while. I am not a big person so not really sure why the seat foam would bottom out. But I really have been thinking about looking for a new seat if they cannot do anything for me.

Since this thread is floating around again i'll update it.... I am now riding with a custom Hartco seat that was built to my height and weight and I can easily do 400/500 miles a day now. The Corbin was a nice seat but my issue was needing to be higher up on the bike, at 6'4" tall I needed leg room!
