The most I've ever put in the F6B is an even 6 gallons. I used to have an a Suzuki Intruder 1400 with a 3.4 gallon tank. I lost count how many times I put exactly 3.4 gallons in that bike. Somehow I only ran out of gas once and when I did I was only 1/4 mile away from the gas station.

Actually, come the think of it, I ran out of gas twice. But the second time I was at the top of a big hill and the gas station was at the bottom so I just coasted in to the pump.

Gallup, NM to Santa Rosa, NM: 6.446 gallons. 260.8 miles. 40.46 mpg. 74mph average moving speed.

Santa Rosa, NM to Sweetwater, TX: 6.36 gallons. 247.7 miles. 38.95 mpg. 67mph average moving speed.

It is 18 miles from the gas station in sweetwater to my house. I don't think I'd have made it without the fill-up. 17139

6.2 was my best , or worst whichever way you look at it. I didn't do it on purpose.

You should have ordered one of those hot dogs at that station. It would have given you enough gas to get you the rest of the way home

I would not be that brave without an external reserve. Don't plan on pushing the B for any distance.

Great to know the B holds that much fuel. Like some of the others, I would not push it that far. It does not make a fuel pump happy, to run out of fuel. Anyway, glad you made it okay.

Forgot to comment on the photo. Great shot of the Macinack Bridge. Was it windy when you crossed? Not fun when the cross wind hit you.

You guys are brave! I wouldn't want to push that 840 pound unit around, much rather have the engine do it for me!

I can't imagine that running the tank that low on fuel does any good for your fuel pump, It's my understanding that the pump is submerged in gasoline to help keep it from overheating and failing.

Hmmmmm?

Hot pump in tank full of vapor . . . . . . sounds like a recipe for flying lesson.:banghead:

we rode across as early as we could, sunrise was 7:55 local time (eastern daylight time) wind was around 5 mph, very peaceful :bronze07: like a day at the beach (48 degree beach) lol

as you can see by one picture, the wind picked up when we spent some time in the southern end at the visitors center

Years ago, we dove the shipwrecks (Cedarville and a few others) on both sides of that bridge. The current can get really strong in that channel.

The most I've done was 6.4 on the dot. I average 40 mpg riding 80 mph. "fireybat" I get on the freeway and set the cruise at 80 and hold it there for 46.5 miles to the office. Ride 100 miles round trip to work and back. Coming home it's usually a little slower. 'popcorn and coke' so that's probably where my mpg helps out. I did 243.1 miles today with a 42 mpg with 5.7 gal to fill up. Running 70-75.

My first group trip on the B was Sepember. Guys I rode with stopped each time at around 120 miles. I just filled up every other stop. So nice to have the extra range! That said, I haven't pushed it much past 240 on a tank.

I wonder if it's possible to damage the fuel pump by running it that low...
