Been going nuts trying to find a GPS that I can plan the route on my PC and then upload to the GPS, Anyone familiar with this one???

TomTom Rider 400 GPS

I have a garmin GPS now but I want to be able to select my route exactly and not have the GPS chose it for me.

And yes I tried the search but that is like trying to navigate around a swamp at night..just end up pissed off.:banghead:

I am also checking out the Rider 400, lots of features that are practical. Glare free screen too. Check out youtube, there are some videos, but most of them are in foreign languages. Some have typed in words on the bottom. I won't buy yet until I hear more locally.

I have a Garmin 660 and use Garmin's BaseCamp (http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp) product. I plan routes on my PC then upload them to the GPS. It's a free download from Garmin.

Does Garmin have a list of what GPS units support the "base camp" software and uploads??

Garmin renamed the software to Basecamp a few years ago and you can still use their old version....I've been making my routes with it for quite a few years now and it works great.

I didn't find one but I'm sure their support (1-800-800-1020) could answer your question.

I would definitely go with the Garmin over the Tom Tom, The Garmin is a much better unit and will definitely get you to your destination. I have friends with the Tom Tom and they always seem to have trouble finding where they are going. JMHO

I switched from TomTom to Garmin because of the free updates for life. TomTom was going to charge something like 50 bucks to update my 3 year old maps.
I have the Garmin nuvi 2597LMT which I purchased specifically for motorcycle use. I wish the display was better in the sun but part of the problem could be how I have the unit mounted (on the glove box cover).

Yeah I tried the base camp with my garmin but I just had the basic base camp so I found it very time consuming to try to select my route off the pc. It was not very user friendly. How do you find it with the version you have? Maybe I will try to download base camp again and try again. It just would not give me all the options when I downloaded it the first time.

yeah exactly the write up for them is very generic when they explain what it can do and I want to make the right choice the first time. I'm hoping someone says hey I have it and it works great!!! Time will tell

There are several training videos on Garmin's site found here (http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/training/basecamp/). Youtube has several also if you search on there.

You should have bought a Zumo. I have a Zumo 450, purchased many years ago, and have no problems seeing the display, even when wearing sunglasses.

I have the older model rider. The new one doesnt work with a second party route planer yet. They are working on it. I use tyre to set route on computer. Use lots of waypoints to set the route you want and the tom will follow it.
