Evenin' Folks!

Since I plan on mounting my iphone 6 on the handlebars for tunes and gps, I'm looking for an extension cable that will connect the iPod interface connector (in the saddlebag) to a flush mount like end that can be dash mounted....oh, and the flush mount end needs to have a cap/cover to prevent water intrusion. Has anyone run across something like this or have any better ideas? Thanks

I don't think you can play the phones GPS through the bikes stereo. (Let me know if you can do this / that would be nice)

For Music:
I use a USB stick in the trunk for music through the bikes stereo and then use blue tooth from my android phone to play the GPS through my Sena helmet headphones when traveling.

For Power:
I just bought a Kuryakyn 1688 Universal Charger USB Power Port (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008EK9LYE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)Once I install this I will use it to power my phone on the handlebars (so I can see the GPS directions)

For bike stereo through Sena Headphones:
I also bought a Sena SM10-01 Dual Stream Bluetooth Stereo Transmitter for up to 2 Audio Devices (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087NB53S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)this allows me to play the bikes radio through my Sena blue tooth helmet speakers.

I'm planning on extending the USB directly from the head unit to the front left pocket for direct connection to my iPhone. It seems that the F6B supports MFI, (made for ipod), but the issue with my iPhone6+ is that it might not like the voltage drop that will occur over that long run. If it doesn't connect I will connect the data pins to a powered USB charger in the left pocket to get it up to 5+V.

Here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/221696760754?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) is the USB Honda plug adapter. This plugs directly into the head and will allow a USB cable to be run to the left box where it will either work as-is or need voltage boosted.

If the voltage drop is too much I'll connect it to the data pins on one of these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0082CXEI8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00).
If not I may use one of these (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S6IO0NG/ref=s9_simh_gw_p422_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=06HYZAGVBQPRWPJ78H7N&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop) unpowered USB extensions.

If you're just going to extend the 1/8" plug in the box you could get one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Cmple-Stereo-Audio-Headphone-Extension/dp/B003ZJH1X2/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1447556201&sr=8-8&keywords=3.5mm+extender) and just snake it up your handlebar. Leave the male end out and no need to worry about waterproof.

I'll post a thread about this adventure when I get it done. If it works then the Maps voice prompts will come through the audio, phone will charge, and track control will integrate with handlebar buttons.

Here's where I've got my phone mounted. It's an otterbox belt clip modded onto a RAM mount.

Thanks…will either of these support enough "wires" to allow full iPhone compatibility. I'm not exactly familiar with how many active pins associated with a true Apple iPhone cable but I do know that some folks have had issues with certain cables not functioning with the f6b iPod interface. BTW, I will be supporting an iPhone 6+ as well (not an iPhone 6).

I'll let you know as soon as I get my parts in.

WOW, that seems like a lot of work....I ran a USB charger from the left cubby under the right handle bar and to a spider mount,,,,,15 minutes and $5....for the cable. When not in use I keep the USB unplugged.

I think I lost you Steve…let me re-phrase what I'm trying to accomplish. I would like to present the iPod interface cable (the one that's in the saddlebag - USB-like but provides full integration/control) and place the interface somewhere on my dash panel (with a weatherproof cover). Unless I'm misreading your post, the USB charger you mentioned does just that…charges. I need the data elements as well. Thanks

Sorry, One or two riders have moved the USB cable to the front and put it in the left cubby.... not quite sure what your are doing but I will try to follow and learn something !

Ooh, glad to hear that! I'll need to search around a little harder and see if I can learn from their experiences.
Sounds like Slammd wants to make it so there is a dash-mounted USB receptacle that is water proof and is a direct connection to the head unit, this will allow him/her to mount iPhone on bars and plug into that to allow track/playlist/etc skipping from the left grip controls.
This will pass digital audio to the head unit and allow for charging. All audio should come through the stock speakers, including GPS instructions.
The problem I am seeing is that the voltage drop from the long cable may not play well with the iPhone. Newer models just won't recognize anything below 5V.
I didn't check the specs, but I'm assuming that Honda fully supports Made for iPod (MFI) specs which will allow the iPhone to connect with it. All other receivers I've used that have MFI will connect to my iPhone 6+.
The other link I posted for the Honda USB head unit connector is from China and will take a month to get here, I ordered one of these after I realized my 1 month mistake.

If it won't connect due to voltage drop I will use a glovebox mounted 12V>USB device to power it and pass the 2 data signals along on that after soldering the data wires from the head unit to it.

Yeah, it does sound like a lot of work, but it will be nice to be able to clip my phone into the cradle, plug in the Lightning connector and have full integration.
I never listened to music much in the past while riding, must admit I've taken a liking to it!

If it works I'll post the steps I took, with pictures where necessary.
A Bluetooth solution that integrated with stock controls would be great, but without integration it is too much of a distraction to change tracks. Also charging will be nice, esp if using GPS.

You're spot on MisterB...that's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. Sorry Steve, I wasn't clear from your reply whether or not your solution provided charge only or charge with data. I too have heard that some have pulled back the cable from the saddlebag and that would work as well assuming I could identify the proper flush mount USB connector that will also provide data pins. BTW, I have been using my Iphone 6+ connected in the saddlebag with the standard 4-5' Apple cable for playing music. I also tested navigation using Apple Maps and it seems to work just fine (audible directions momentarily interrupt music)...I'm thinking that there shouldn't be a voltage drop issue. Thanks

Is there anyway to do this with an android phone?

So Steve you want your android phone to play music and interupt for gps commands from the handlebars. And be able to change songs via handlebar switch.

While the usb cable connector in the left saddlebag is our best option because it supplies power and return audio signals and can be controlled by the left handlebar switch. There are plenty of alternatives. If your phone is right there at the left handlebar whats the use of the handlebar switch then? You can use power from the left cubby to power your andriod and you can use the earplug in the left cubby to hear audio.

of course if you don't want 2 cables running out of your left cubby then use a BT receiver in the cubby to pair up with your Android and plug the BT receiver into the ear phone jack already in the left cubby.
