You want to see waste....join the military. I was an airman back in the 70's and couldn't believe some of what I saw. I can only imagine that it's worse today with the laziness of the generation out there now.

Very smart..... he used his genius for a semi-evil purpose! :yikes:

Don't see where this is a waste, mission was still accomplished and he got his bagel down without the sun in his pie hole.

If they were tacking at a wider angle, they would be expending more fuel to get to the destination (taking the twisties versus the super slab).

Pennies in the overall scheme of things. You could also say they took longer to get to port so had to serve another meal which made the costs higher.

You obviously haven't paid the fuel bill on a boat. :icon_wink:

I used to have a dive boat. I would take other divers out from my dive club. One gal gave me $5.00 to cover fuel and I just smiled at her.

Those drops in the bucket add up....do that all over the world. He should have been court martialed....lol

It's still pennies in the scheme, cmon guys. This isn't even proven a true event. The fuel would have been used anywhose. Going 15 miles is pennies in the overall scheme. I have plenty of experience in the waste the government performs daily. But my gruff Vietnam vet dad said the same thing about the military of the 80's that I was in. The old soldiers all say the same thing about the newest generation of soldiers........it's what we do.

This coming from a guy that wrecked a perfectly good M109R just so he could be like me and get a F6B. Shameful!!

I think some of you guys missed the point of the op-ed, which is my mind was the definition of power ! And very smart !

I saw it as a lazy bastid who couldn't stand up and turn his body, but had to make a ship reroute. If his commander heard about it, he wouldn't be so powerful.

I kinda took it as the product of a vivid imagination, not the recounting of actual events. The whole 'sly grin' thing made me laugh. Brilliant. So, my vote would have to be smart...
