Jersey's still a dump. :poke: Have at it.

And this is where you get your facts from? An internet site like that? That explains a lot!!
It's a good thing you got a military pension. Unfortunately you couldn't even pay the taxes on a house in most of NJ.
Check out the average income of people living in Metuchen NJ. Or White House,NJ. just to mention a few. Get back to me on what you find!!!
Unfortunately, with your limited ability to know facts you didn't know that what they did in that silly study was hit on every Black ghetto community in the state. But I'll bet that the mean average income in most of those cities is still higher than your pension.
Try looking for a study on the best places in NJ to live and then maybe you'll realize just how poor you are.

Just to save you some time I Googled this just for you:

The median household income in New Jersey is the second highest in the country, according to new Census numbers released on Tuesday, Dec. 17. New Jersey ranks number two with a median household income of $71,637, according to the latest 2008-2012 American Community Survey estimate.Dec 17, 2013
N.J. has second highest median household income, according to ...

I need a "most of the time button" to click.

Now this may have been brought up already but I wasn't about to read all 250 posts to see.

I wear a Helmet probably 80% of the time. Not sure if it qualifies for sometime.

Some guys wear a helmet when they play on their computers. Then again that's where they spend most of their time!

And then there's :poke: "some guys" that may wear a helmet; though it's questionable if there's anything worth protecting in it! :shhh:

Some of us :icon_cool: get go to work from home (globally) on a computer, and can simultaneously multi task with message boards on another personal computer.

That is why you see me posting so often during the day :icon_wink: And this guy wears a bathrobe throughout the day... hell.. I usually don't get a chance to jump into the shower until around 4pm.

Very freeing, exception riding. Earlier in the summer, temps dropped about 30 degrees from beautiful to the deathstar ship hanging over head whereas massive hail storm commenced for 45 minutes. Definitely used a helmet - buth damn that hail hurt. lol

I'm just surprised you even do that without a helmet. Then again you probably emptied out the helmet protected area just sitting there. :tomatohit:

Ps: Here's two helpful hints Always make sure there's paper on the roll before you sit and make sure the bath robe isn't under you when you firer.

Yup, that hail storm came out of nowhere passing through Salt Lake City. Hit it big rain storm passing through Aspen a few years ago and threw it on the helmet for that one as well.

Here in the socialist state of Mex-a-fornia , 1 day Government workers raised their hands to vote we must wear helmets or be thrown into a cage. So, generally I do not wear helmet on the two Lane blacktop's through Sedona, Moab, Zion, North Rim Grand Canyon, telluride, McCall, etc. etc.

BTW, there is nothing I see funnier, than a guy riding with no helmet on and a helmet hanging off the bike. If that's not giving the middle finger to Karma, I don't know what is!!

Chip, I can fit my modular Nolan closed and standing up in my bag. Takes a little effort, but it works. Always did that in the top case on my '06 RT. And I always wear my helmet, no exceptions. Too many crazy people out there. And it's so much cheaper than buying a new head.

Some of those bicycle helmets don't look effective at ALL! may as well wear a motorcycle helmet; at least a half helmet...

As far as the photo's of the damaged motorcycle helmets.. well there it is. IN YOUR FACE. Indisputable PROOF that they take the brunt of a bad situation. Look at the pictures and imagine what the rider's head would've resembled if the helmet wasn't worn... :shhh:

A curious thought....

Football...
Hockey...
Baseball...
Jai Alai...

All of these have objects moving up to 100 mph....
Yet would we let our kids play these "sports" without a helmet? or any of the "proper" gear?

True, getting into a bar fight and having a bottle cracked against your skull can make for a bad day.

There is protective gear worn in those sports... baseball may be exclusive of being completely cloaked in protective gear; but the catcher and the batter both wear something when facing that fastball.

What the hell is Jai Alai? Some kind of rice dish? :icon_lol:

Not a debate, but Florida Law that we educate the service members upon when they take the course:
Yes, Florida has a helmet law.
You need the following three conditions to be met to ride with no helmet in the state of Florida:
- 21 years old or older
- have taken the MSF safety course
- have at least $10,000 insurance for "Non helmet use" which will be annotated upon the front of your insurance card.
As we all know, $10k isn't going to cover squat.
I'm pretty sure also, since it IS an insurance company, that somewhere in the fine print of a motorcyclist's standard insurance that doesn't specifically cover "Non-helmet use" there's a clause stating that the insurance in null and void if the rider isn't wearing a helmet.

Bottom line: I treat non helmet wearing riders like uninsured motorists.

FWIW.
Cheers,
Steve

I'm still waiting to see the study of how many accidents are caused by the wearing of a helmet.

There is a thing I call helmet fatigue. Anyone want to dispute that hasn't ridden a 600 mile day. They haven't experienced the vibration causing drowsiness and fatigue reducing your reaction time and alertness. If you doubt it exist take a ride of say 300 miles with a helmet, then take it off and ride 5 miles. You'll see what I'm talking about!

Loss of peripheral vision is another factor. Especially with some of today's models.

Loss of sound perception is another factor.

I could go on beating this dead horse but let me just say there are far too many inexperienced people passing laws that restrict my freedom to make my own decisions.

PS. I do wear a helmet at times, but I think I'm the best judge of when I need to take it off and ride unencumbered.

I doubt that study will ever be done - no one wants to pay for it.

Totally concur with the concept. I've done many 1000 mile days but as a military pilot, I'm more used to the helmet concept than most others I would imagine. Strap a couple of pounds of Night Vision goggles on the front and counter weight with fishing weights on the back and the neck gets a really good workout in a 4 hour flight. Like a professional football player, the helmet is just "part of the gig" and over 30+ years of flying and riding, it has become more natural for me to wear a full face than to not. But, as many will advocate, I'm definitely not the norm on any scale.

Loss of peripheral vision is another factor. Especially with some of today's models.
I disagree. Unless you have amazing peripheral vision, greater than 190 degrees. Of course, if you move your eyes say full left, yes, there is some periphery loss further to the left. But assuming your neck works normally, that is almost looking behind you at that point. Not really a safety factor.

Loss of sound perception is another factor.
Again, I respectfully disagree. After 20+ years flying noisy helicopters, I can still hear everything going on around me, save a Tesla approaching from the rear. What FF helmets permit, unfortunately is people to have speakers in their helmets which are now full of 'distracting' noises (phone, GPS, tunes, passenger, other riders) and the rider cannot focus on the ambient road noises. It also 'allows' earbuds to be worn (illegal to be in both ears in the state of Florida) and that definitely diminishes the rider's hearing abilities.

I could go on beating this dead horse but let me just say there are far too many inexperienced people passing laws that restrict my freedom to make my own decisions.
I wholeheartedly concur!!!!!

For me it is the wind that I cannot stand! A FF helmet on a long trip helps with that. I also have three sets of custom ear buds, two with speakers that block out most of the loud stuff and wind but allow you to hear the things you need to. Works for me !

You, of all people on this forum, know that 'earbuds in both ears simultaneously' is illegal in this state!
Of course you also know it's damn near a 'tertiary' offense.....

Third? What are one and two? I have been know to be a bit of an outlaw at times. Speeding, running stop signs, I even spit on a sidewalk one time and heaven forbid I have looked upon a woman with less than honorable thoughts before. Wearing or not wearing helmets or earbuds don't bother me a bit. I do think a poll asking if you wear a lid in a state that requires the wearing of lids to give nebulous results. Yep!

I wear earplugs in both ears. 'eff the law... my hearing is more important.

And at the same time.. I can still hear all required ambient sounds.. at a non-damaging level.

Same here in Calif. You can have one ear bud or one headphone on, but it is a :nono: to have both ears covered with head phones or hearing protector plugs or amplified buds in while operating a MC or a cage on a public road...oh and on the cage, ya can't run a TV in the front seat, but you can in the back....go figure.:icon_doh:

In days past I used to wear a 1/2 helmet because I rode a Harley and didn't want to not look cool. Now I don't give a fvck what I look like. On ANY bike it is a full face. Anything less and you are exposing those uncovered parts in a crash.

I differ with this opinion....
Not all states require helmets, F6Bs are in all states.
If we ALL lived in Florida, or a similar state that permitted no helmets as part of the helmet law, yes, it would be different.

If we all lived in Florida or other states that permitted no helmets, THEN this poll would mean something. We would then know, when given the choice, how many people wear a helmet all the time, some of the time or never.

Everyone living in a state that forces one to wear a helmet is going to wear a helmet (or spend a lot of time and money on tickets), and thus "vote" that they wear a helmet. That vote is meaningless, because they have to wear a helmet. :banghead:

Here's another view, maybe spoken already. My state requires a helmet. I must wear one. Pretty much every state around me does NOT require one. I still wear one. Maybe an additional question to the poll.

I'm a little unique in the fact that I was hit by a cager, with full gear, and my head hit the pavement. I got dinged up a bit, but I'm still here riding like it never happened...for what it's worth.

Good point. When I used to live in a state that required a helmet, I always wore one. When riding in a state that did not require a helmet, I still always wore one. Probably habit, and peace of mind.

A good friend of mine lives in IL, a helmet free state. If he had not been wearing his helmet in Oct of 2016, he would either be dead or severely brain/spinal injured. 45 mph on country road, hit gravel patch (he thinks), sideswiped oncoming car, ejected, landed on road, and limped away. Helmet had a nasty gash on it. To each their own. I would never force my opinion on someone else, after they say "no" the first time.
