Antenna disappearance

Know what would be nice? To have a decent "filler" that would allow the removal of the antenna on the fender without the worry of leaving a hole, just a clean looking plate of some sort. I rarely listen to the radio and with the addition of a laptop tourpack (I like so much that I think I'll be leaving it on) the antennae is bent over under it. I'm gonna look for some type of hideable one but I'm a bit torn due to that big fat rubber surround that would need to go

A good body man could fill it and repaint the area for a decent price. You also could look at purchasing sheet ABS plastic and forming your own plate. ABS can be heated and formed and takes paint very well if prepped correctly.

Some have un screwed the antenna and capped the stub with a rubber cap, not a total removal but it wouldn't be bent over. Just a thought.

What do you have hanging off the back of your bike F6B1911?

Not sure if this is doable but how about you remove the antenna and replace it with a black grommet? Would not be that noticeable on a black bike

Antenna length is proportional to transmitted wave length. Changing antenna length affects the distance a good signal can be received, in other words time before the station fades. Just something to conceder.

I have a Bushtec trailer hitch with a hitch rack, perfect size for a cooler, there's also a 6-way bungee cord on it.
It's generally not something I keep on the bike, but I picked up a helmet that day.

Exactly what I did to mine. Even though my bike isn't black, it still looks OK with the grommet filling the dime-size hole in the black base. Got it from a plumbing aisle in the hardware store. Fits snug and perfect. I zip tied the antenna under the seat after removing the metal bracket.

There is some minor loss of reception, but I use an iPod most of the time so no problem.

I unscrewed the antenna. Pulled the boot off. Took out the small bolt that holds it on. Unplugged the wire and slid the antenna inside the fender put the bolt back in so it wouldn't move and plugged it in again. Then replaced the boot and went to ACE and found a rubber bottle stopper of the right size and friction fit it in the hole on top of the boot where the antenna was formerly. Very little difference in reception.

I have not looked at this, but if the antenna screws in couldn't you get a bolt and washer paint it black and screw it in?
