So I was investigating or putting together a possible audio solution for a friend. Coming up with an alternative to the conventional handlebar mounted stereo systems out there. SO I jumped the gun and bought these Kicker Marine enclosures. They were on Ebay for a buy it now price of $179 with a "Make an Offer" tab. I put in $100 and bam, they were mine. I thought man I should have offered less. SO I got the enclosures and found these JBL GTO 429 speakers that were $95 everywhere else, I got them for $56. My friend wasn't interested in the upgrading right now, so I figured what the hay.

Jimmy I like them and for sure you have enough power to push them... This is the second or third time the rear speakers have been added...You should have found a plug and play under the seat!!! At the last RTE, I was trying to get LaCoocheeBoy to add some..he has some power also !!!!!

Great mod, thanks for the pic's !!!

JimmyTee, what are you driving them with (the amp in the Clarion unit) ?

How do they sound ?

JimmyTee, what are you driving them with (the amp in the Clarion unit) ?

How do they sound ?

Right now, they are being driven by the Clarion head unit, which actually drives them pretty well. The Clarion is rated at 20 watts RMS into 4 ohms. These are 3 ohm. These speakers are pretty efficient at 92 db. The best description I can give is " rear fill". The speakers round out the sound around me and give more of that sensation of being in the sound. More like sitting in a car. It's just a more full and rounded sound field. Kind of like a surround sound sensation.

I do have an amp on the way to power them with.:icon_wink: I'm curious how they will sound with a little more power, but the main reason is I want the ability to manually shut down the amps and speakers. This is because I have a bluetooth transmitter that transmits any audio from the CLarion unit to my Sena headsets. You don't want both playing, because there is a delay created by the bluetooth that lags about a second from what plays over the speakers. Trust me,it ain't right.:shhh: The amps are triggered on, so all it should take is a switch to interrupt that circuit.

Those are cool and you found a non-invasive way of mounting them. What did you make the mounts out of ?

I found this site that has a selection of sizes and shapes.

This is the amp I've ordered for it. More than what I need, but the price is nice and it gets some great reviews.

These Kicker enclosures come with clamps and various rubber bushings to fit tubing as small as 7/8" round tubing and including some to fit square tubing.

I mounted them to the rear seat bolts via longer 130 mm length SS bolts and black anodized aluminum spacers. Works pretty well. And yes, no adulteration of the bags needed or any other F6B body parts. I can choose to remove them and it'll be like they were never there.

I'm thinking that next winter, I am going to paint my F6B. At that time, I'm going to fill in the antenna hole and I might decide to add a chopped tour pack. If I add the tour pack, I'm probably going to add speaker pods with at least 6.5" speakers.

Not yet, that I'm planning. but there aren't a lot of 2 channel amps to choose from in the micro amp sizes.:icon_wink:

I could have replaced the NVX 4 channel amp with a 5 channel , but this option is less expensive and if I decided I didn't want the added speakers I could remove the second amp and speakers to be utilized in some other project.

If you add speaker pods, check out June's Upholstery 6.5" pods. This is what Biketronics uses/resells. I think they make different versions for different styles of tour paks. The HogTunes pods are more expensive and won't work with 6.5" speakers.

I'll keep them in mind. As you can imagine, I've done a bit of searching and found pods to fit 7.7" speakers if I choose...:icon_wink:
I've also pondered on some tour pack /trunks with molded in speaker enclosures. Regardless, I've got some time. Not going to do anything until next winter.

Biketronics puts their 7.1" Titan II's (rebadged HATs) in them. http://www.biketronics.com/bt474-7-1-rear-speaker-pod-kit-for-98-2013/

June's are thicker/deeper and don't resonate like the stock pods.

I haven't seen any 7.7" pods except for the aluminum ones similar (from bulletline.com) to what you are running now.

Im adding speaker pods to my chopped pak, hopefully this week (bike in shop for recall). I bought mine from Junes Upholstery, there pretty much the only people out there making them for the chopped pak. They cost me $160 shipped to my door, the fit and finish is fantastic, they do indeed take a 6.5" speaker.

Eglide may be making them also but they will not allow you to call them so I won't do business with them.

Here are some pics before the install.

I have seen that site before as well when searching for pods.

The picture of their 7.1 kit (SP-74) appears to be June's pods and Biketronic's 7.1" (HAT) speakers and BT's branded speaker grills.

They don't come right out and say it, but their specs are identical to Biketronics as well as the picture.

Some of their other sets look familiar as well, but from different suppliers.

If you didn't already have a JL sub, ... :icon_lol:

So for those that are interested, I got the Kenwood amp at my door today. Not wanting to wait until it was all installed properly,I hooked the amp up temporarily. I also just wanted to be sure it was worth the effort of mounting and wiring up. Well, I'm pretty pleased with it.:icon_biggrin: It really made those 4" speakers come alive.

I'm telling you , if you got a bike with no fairing and want tunes on it ,these speakers and amp combo will simply kick butt over any of those handlebar stereo kits, HANDS DOWN.
That is why I originally looked into these speakers. I was going to put together some real jams for a friends Valkyrie Tourer. He has one of those chintzy handlebar systems with extravagant wattage claims in the stratosphere.:icon_doh: He has had it for awhile and it has some issues anyways.
