When I was stationed in Italy, the infantry air dropped one and the chute didn't open....same thing. The only thing salvageable was maybe 2 lug nuts. It was nothing but a huge crumpled mess.

Years ago in Germany, I saw a low extraction parachute drop of a air pallet of C rations from a C130. It did not go as planned... as soon as the pallet hit terra firma... it exploded and the entire load of C ration cases tumbled all over the place :shhh: and yeah... guess who had to help police it all up :icon_rolleyes:
