Okay - anyone know for sure where the Cruise Control computer gets its speed data for the bike?

Is it the same as the speedo off the tranny?
Or somewhere else?

If the source is the front tire, for whatever reason, - that will lead to a further discussion.
Cheers,
Steve

pulse counter from the ECM

Okay - got it. Thanks.

What input drives that? I'm trying to discover if there is any input to the speed data other than the transmission.

For the speed signal, tap into the VS wire near where it goes into the ECM. It's the white wire w/black stripe (#A10) on the Black connector. Cant determine the "pluses per mile", but it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 70,000 to 75,000. The VS signal is picked up off of the counter shaft 4th gear, which has 27 teeth and the engine turns 3250 @ 60 mph. 27 X 3250 = 87750. If you knew the gear reduction between the engine crankshaft & the counter shaft, the exact pulses per mile could be calculated.

As a disclaimer: Someone way smarter then I figured this out...........

I remember us digging for that wire when you did my cruise control.
By the way, still working with out a hitch. Thanks one more, time.
Has really made my trips out west soooo much easier!!!

Again, thank you!
That clears that up!
